- A Patek Philippe steel watch? Better yet, a Patek dress watch in stainless steel with a new complication, the weekly calendar.
Elizabeth Smith and George Reid are reviewing the Patek Philippe 5212A Calatrava, a unique modern day dress watch that not only is in steel, but has a new movement and complication - a weekly calendar.
On top of that, the dial looks imperfect, a far cry from what we know about Patek Philippe watches. Watch this video to learn about the new Patek Philippe complication and how the dial design came to be so perfectly "imperfect".

Love the review! You guys killed it. The watch is absolutely spectacular
THIS PIECE is amazing and under the radar!
Yes, as expensive watches go the 5212A is extremely stealthy (=safe to wear out and about.) I got mine from a Patek AD here in the UK just over a year ago, and I wore it virtually everyday for a year. During the time nobody outside of a high end watch boutique ever noticed it, or paid any attention to it.
However I gotta say one thing: although they are extremely fine, these are not the most robust of watches! A few weeks ago I dropped it - only about two and a half or three feet onto a soft carpet. The result is that the watch will be away at the Patek factory in Geneva until towards the end of this year and I have an estimated repair bill of 1300GBP. Ho hum. The price you pay for being as funky as hell, I guess.🙄
@@j.burgess4459 you’re lucky to get that piece from the uk. Hardly no authorised dealer would even allow you to put your name down. Especially as your first watch.
@@carcarroom Yes, as a _first Patek,_ I think there'd now be virtually no chance of getting this (or any other steel reference.) This was the third Patek I've owned - the first two being in precious metal. But even so, I feel that I was a little lucky. When it comes to the so-called "rarities" most of the ADs are getting literally just one piece delivered to them _per year._ So they can afford to be extremely choosey about whom they sell them to.
The base movement 26-330 SC is an improved evolution of the 324 SC; it is the new automatic base caliber with central rotor; therefore it´s not an old movement with the weekly calender module put on top of it.
A very "fun" and informative review of the 5212...thank you. Having one in my collection has added so much personality to my watch choices. I appreciate the week count being in the financial industry, but the dial has a style you'll grow to love the more you wear it!
Love that opening. Great presentation George and Elizabeth!
Thank you, we had a lot of fun filming this video too! -Elizabeth
Very versatile Watch when it comes to strap combinations.
Fun watch and great video. Would be great to see how to set it too.
Noted!
patek philippe will take it to another level every time.
Great video but please look into better microphones.
great watch
We agree!
The 7 with a dash through it is not French; it is used also in Germany and Austria, although it is goign out fo fashion slowly...
What material is the deployant clasp you have on the watch please? I have only ever seen it with the steel prong buckle. Thanks
It is the all steel buckle that comes with the watch, a rare edition
@@WatchesbyOliverSmithJeweler Thanks for replying. Can it be bought aftermarket from Patek if the watch came with the prong buckle originally?
Is this watch smart enough to know the difference between months with 30 and 31 days?
nope
Padek 😂
