    Hey Thanks for watching hope you guys like the video, I noticed google automatically added a google maps link to Musicians Institute in the description. Just so there's no confusion other than attending there in 86-87 I have no current affiliation with them (I will see if I can turn off that feature) anyways please like, subscribe, comment, join Patreon I appreciate it 👍

      My guitar teacher growing up was a grad and that curriculum and information is invaluable for learning to practice and learn

      Yeah I think I improved 100% in the first few months that I attended. though now I would say most of the knowledge can be found online the hardest part for students isn't the lack of information (like when I was young) but too much info with not all of it being good

    👍 how much time would you suggest practicing techniques when you're working on several other things say like blues scales and pentatonic scales?

    • @ericnaylorguitar
      @ericnaylorguitar  Год назад +2

      So most of the time I've spent working on techniques (past & present) I do while playing scales. If I learn an exercise I try to as soon as possible transfer the ideas of the exercise to a scale because that's how I will probably be using it when improvising. Now if putting it in a scale is too confusing then just keep it in a drill format, but otherwise try it in whatever scales you're working on. That's why on the last drill on this video the idea was to use all four fingers for sliding & the exercise I think is good but I showed a lick using the same idea of sliding with all four fingers. Because that's how I would mostly practice getting an idea down by trying to create licks & applying it to scales. so for example the shifting & sliding ideas if doing pentatonics try using those ideas in your scales sliding between positions or even sliding between notes in the same position, this way you get better at both the scales & whatever technique you're working on. hope that made sense 👍

    That is a new concept to me, the technique of placing the finger behind the finger that is actually fretting the note. Is that just an exercise thing? Is that how it is recommended to actually perform? PS, I really enjoy your videos.

      welp... I caught it that time thru. Right at 4:05... "You don't ...". LOL.

      yeah use it as a way to force your fingers to stay close then when you play normal your fingers should remember & stay closer then before doing the exercise. 👍

      This is the part I like too! I remember this bartender who gave guitar lessons watched me play and openly commented how are we gonna get your fingers closer to the fretboard. This exercise I hope to see the results of muscle memory. 🙂

      yeah if you can build the habit when practicing you don't have to think about it when you're playing
