Eli Wallach did a fantastic job in that movie, absolutely fantastic. Eli Wallach was one of our best actors, no doubt about that. His delivery of the "shoot" dialogue you mention says much more than those words. The way Eli delivered that line echoed a philosophy America hadn't (and hasn't) had since WW II.

Can't get enough of this theme song. There are so many version of it. You oughta listen to all of them to decide which one you like the best.
My school mate Joey Sullivan saw this film on the tele back in 77 . Next day he came in whistling this, he had it spot on. Impressed me and always assosiate this tune with the great Joey Sullivan.
Such and unforgettable movie. And not only it was very good, the musical theme was a stroke of genius. Still great to hear and enjoy.

Somehow reminds me of the desert landscapes I used to walk around in as a kid. Yellow sunlight, heat, sandy soil, scrub and cacti.
The Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne westerns, the would ride through the desert and always look like the were freshly showered. Eastwood rode into town looking like he hadn't seen water for months.
