After finagling with this for a bit I have some tips: 1. When watching the video, turn it to the slowest setting and pause for every second to look at the folds. Hold it exactly like see does, examine every line, triangle, and square. 2. Once you've got your grid and begin doing the major folds, you'll create what I call a basket base. When you make your folds, the triangles you folded in front of the main shape will create the 'walls' of the basket. the flaps that you folded to the back will create the 'handles' 3. The bottom left and upper right corners fold together to create the triangle shape, the flaps are there to anchor the pieces together. 4. Don't forget to push the bottom of the 'basket' shape out to make a nice plump tripryamid. 5. folding the flaps in will take a little bit of finagling, and I made another one of these just to see how I did it, and it was a combination of both closing techniques which was to fold one flap on the inside, and then use a seam on the outside to insert the other flap. But do try both techniques to see which way you prefer!
I do feel like the multicolored green is a bit distracting and I couldn't follow where you were folding even when I slowed the video down to it's slowest setting. Two sad sheets of origami paper made it's way to the trash can... It was a bit of a miss for me, but if others can follow it hats off to them.
Like others, I was hopelessly lost around the 4:00 mark. After hours of frustration, I gave up! The next day I tried again, watching every step at .25 speed. I also read the comments and learned that I was not alone! I started with a fresh sheet of paper and went very slowly, and FINALLY it came together, almost like magic! It was worth the effort to overcome the challenge. Thank you for an inspiring video and very cool design!
Thank you, finally worked it out. I had to slow down video after 4 mins, then ensure you have a box, then collapse the box inwards. then tuck in flap. Thank you David it was worth all the wasted paper and the frustration.
Claire Holbrook I hope this will help there is a channel origami plus - origami tutorials and there is a French person who shows you how to do it very nicely and while talking and everything
Between 4:00 and 4:40-ish is very hard to follow. But if you've followed accurately prior to that and slow it to .25 speed, it will come together if you're very patient.
By the Way... It can be collapsed to be flat by finding the "soft side" (the one without flaps beneath) pressing it flat. Then "pop" it back by pressing on the two corners at the end of the valley fold created in the collapse. Hold it up to a bright light to see the side I mean. Now you can transport it in a pocket or book or box and "magically make a 3D object.
Thank you David Donahue for creating this model and thank you Paper Kawaii for teaching us how to fold it. It's one of my favourite models to fold it's simple & precise yet forgiving and elegant. I even made it as fortune cookie triangle for a recent event. Just added quotes and candies inside, like a party favour.
I’m having a hard time with the closing. Do you have a diagram or book that shows this on your website?! I love your tutorials but this one has me stumped. Thank you Chrissy!
this was hard for me to follow at some points, and i couldn't tell which side you were doing. This is the only video i have watched that wasnt amazing, and i love your channel!
Hmm, I thought I was going slowly 😅, but I can't please everyone I'm afraid, as with most origami tutorials, you'll need to pause whenever you are taking longer than the demonstrator. But thanks for the nicely worded feedback, I do take these comments into consideration.
What a great box, fantastic for turning patterned paper into a lovely small gift. (●'◡'●) And the phone stand what an excellent bonus, it holds my phone justs fine! I want to try making small beads out of this, they will look so cute as a decorative strand! Thank you very much for this tutorial 🙏👏🎈
Please slow down! I couldn't do it because your going too fast.please don't take this as criticism because I love your videos I'm just giving some advice. Thanks
Hey thanks for the (nice) feedback, I really appreciate your kind tone :) I'll try and slow down next time, it's super hard to go at a pace that is right for everyone. I can suggest pausing the video after a couple of steps so that you aren't rushing, or you can mute the video and slow it down using the settings :)
Thank you for the tip, I really appreciate it this will help me make this. This was just something I really wanted to make ( and I soon did) so thanks for helping me.( And now I know how to slow down a video •u•)
hi....I am a fan of urs.....I have made ur storage boxes, stacking box and all kind of ur boxes...I am known in my class as "THE CRAFTIST" all bcoz of u...I really want to win ur giveaway plzzzzzzzz.....I am just 12 years old and my birthday is coming.........................................................
It doesn't look like I have done it because I were not exactly doing it correctly, at last when you fold the paper to make triangle your hand was coming and I was not able to see what you are doing!!!!!
Uggggh this is probably the worst origami tutorial ever! Your hand was blocking the unit after the 4 minute mark, making it hard to see your paper. Talking tutorials would be so considerate 😢
It’s all about practice! Keep trying until you get it right. That’s what folding is all about! If I had a dollar for every one of my failed attempts, I’d be rich.
You're making too muchunnecessary movements OR you're putting too little emphasis on important parts that the video is hard to follow for the post 4-minute mark.
Wow, what an honor.
Beautifully done. Thanx!!!
I'm glad you liked it David and I am honoured to be allowed to make it. Thanks again. 💗

Please help me, my brain hurts

Kenturaibutterfly Thank you for this butterfly!!!
Kenturaibutterfly THANK YOU! I followed your advice and it was a success!,

I 😂😂😂
Yesss, I agree
I tried it the next day, get it done finally. But it’s all becoz of luck, not slowing down the video or what. Bless all other audiences for this.
Thank you, finally worked it out. I had to slow down video after 4 mins, then ensure you have a box, then collapse the box inwards. then tuck in flap. Thank you David it was worth all the wasted paper and the frustration.
Didn't understand anything after the 4 minute mark. I can get the right shape but I don't understand how to make all the parts tuck into each other. 😵
I lost this at the 4ish minute. Screaming frustration.
Claire Holbrook I hope this will help there is a channel origami plus - origami tutorials and there is a French person who shows you how to do it very nicely and while talking and everything
I really hope it helps
same
Yes
Claire Holbrook me too

As an intermediate, I appreciate the tutorials that use papers with different-colored sides…really helps to follow 👍🏻

you’re right! thanks for the tip!
You have to tease it into form. Play with the bud of a box. Roll it into sculpture.
Chrissy, your tutorials are absolutely superb! Thank you for this beautiful model!
Can you show us what you folded because when the 4min started i lost it
Ngl, I got a headache making this but it was definitely worth it.
Does someone know a better video on how to do this where you can actually see something?
idk

I've already watched this on Pinterest but this helped me more cuz it was slower
I’m having a hard time with the closing. Do you have a diagram or book that shows this on your website?! I love your tutorials but this one has me stumped. Thank you Chrissy!
Very much usefull for my maths project during this quarantine
10/10. This is beautiful and super easy. I wish more origami today was like this...
Glad you like it :)
but origami is fun to make ............... i know what you mean though
Made it and it was perfect to gift a necklace. ♡
this was hard for me to follow at some points, and i couldn't tell which side you were doing. This is the only video i have watched that wasnt amazing, and i love your channel!
Khloe K sorry to hear that, I will try harder to make clearer instructions, maybe the green paper is not good?
Paper Kawaii - Origami Tutorials ahhh that might have been the problem! It’s all okay though, I really do love your channel! :)
Great tiny cute box! Thanks! :)
OMG so easy and clear tysm ur da best xx
Looks beautiful with the crane :3
Wow! I never knew there was a one piece origami tripyramid box!!!
What paper do you use in this.
I just could not get this thing to close! I have the shape but it wouldn't close properly so I taped it shut... Done for me.
the hardest part of these steps is that you have to tuck the flaps in
Phone stand is very beautiful and useful :-)
Great job with the tutorial, and thank you!! I hope you keep making more content. I would love to see more.
So when they folded twice in the beginning I was like, “oh…. The classic plus fold” because I almost always do this with origami😂
Your instructions was really awesome
Thank you !!! The phone stand is very useful :D
You're welcome! :D
Yes it is
You make super, fantastiac and amazing origami!!!!
why do you guys do these without voice?
It worked! Thank you.
You can even put stuff in it to so it will be a box lol
スローにして20回目で成功しました!
成形の始まりが手が込み合っていて解りにくいです、でも想像力で乗りきりました💦
頭痛い😖💥
でもめげづにハート♥️に挑戦するぞ~
あの、日本人ですか、先生❓️
It's not quite hard.. greatly done..
Me following the instructions
Still end up getting a pyramid but has a pyramid on the bottom of the pyramid.
Would be easier to follow if sides of paper were more different, eg pattern on one side.
Very good! thank you
Hey happy 8 years in youtube
Thanks! :)
4:03 too quick, I can’t follow
Can i use a little paper?
Christina Kuroda wdym?
Too fast! Can you make a little break after every move? That would be very helpful!
Hmm, I thought I was going slowly 😅, but I can't please everyone I'm afraid, as with most origami tutorials, you'll need to pause whenever you are taking longer than the demonstrator. But thanks for the nicely worded feedback, I do take these comments into consideration.
I always just pause it :)
Agata Aga
You should just adjust the playback speed
Thank you for the video🌸
You're very welcome!
Lost track..
I saw this in a book!
Where? There are others resulting in a similar final shape but this one has all sides clean.
@@daviddonahue1967 I don't remember which book. That was 7 months ago...
It was really slow.....
But then also I love it
Thank you for everything you have done

This is really confusing and i feel there were alot of uneeded folds at the beginning
Sorry to hear that, there are however no 'unneeded folds'.
you usually need the crease folds to make the whole model easier
If it bothers u to do the folds there is a tutorial by origami plus - easy origami tutorials who does it differently but I loved this vid too
Absolutely amazing

Nice and simple!
Amazing🤩😍😍🤩
Thank you , thank you. Perfection!!!
Glad you think so! :)
It doesn't look like I have done it because I were not exactly doing it correctly, at last when you fold the paper to make triangle your hand was coming and I was not able to see what you are doing!!!!!
Good job
Hopefully,I made it in just 1/2 hour. thank god
Wow chrissy
I have tried all your origami ideas.
Wow, all of them? 😊
Yes but only with white paper
I live in india(M. P.) so I don't get a variety of coloured or printed papers
Yeah this works so easily
Thank you!
Wonderful origami 10\10
sorry but how to follow in the end ??? IMPOSSIBLE
Wonderful tutorial. Easy to follow.
It's cute but a little bit misleading? The box can only be opened by literally disasembling various steps...not pretty after a few uses
its easy to make (for me) but it isnt worth it because you cant really do anything else after
I'd say this is a level 3 not a 2. Your masu box instructions are easier....
Awesome done wowww
😭😭mine didn’t come out right
9th COMMENT

It’s getting hard since from 4.00😢
I finally can make this but it’s by luck. Not sure if I can repeat it next time.
Uggggh this is probably the worst origami tutorial ever! Your hand was blocking the unit after the 4 minute mark, making it hard to see your paper. Talking tutorials would be so considerate 😢
i tried to but its to hard try and make one for kids
Instructions unclear : i made a cube instead
I can do that with long paper
I lost at the end give me my paper because you only I lost my paper
Sare Bhagyalakshmi welp can’t blame her its ur own fault u couldn’t make an easy box :/
It’s all about practice! Keep trying until you get it right. That’s what folding is all about! If I had a dollar for every one of my failed attempts, I’d be rich.
there are like. i think 8 more ways to make this box
Ha
You're making too muchunnecessary movements OR you're putting too little emphasis on important parts that the video is hard to follow for the post 4-minute mark.
