Atomic bunker Telephone Exchange Alkmaar

A tour of the former atomic bunker at the Telephone Exchange in Alkmaar.
In 1973, Alkmaar received a large new telephone exchange on the ring road. But what many did not know was that a so-called NCO (Nuclear Chemical Housing) was built under the forecourt at the same time. This was a bunker that was specifically intended for maintaining the national telephone network and emergency network in the event of disasters and wars. This 'telephone bunker' also had direct lines with, among other things, bunkers from the BB, town halls in the region and hospitals. Under a roof of 60 cm thick concrete is still a large bunker (25x25 meters) with sleeping quarters, infirmaries, command room and recreation room.
Until the end of the last century, employees of the PTT still trained annually in the use of the bunker. The walls are 60 cm thick. There was room for 40-60 people who could keep the telephone network running for at least 14 days. The main rooms had floors that were on metal springs so that they would not vibrate too much in the event of a bomb impact. These days the bunker is empty.

Nou, da's geen geheim hoor, ben er toen ik klein was wel in geweest, toen was het nog vol operationeel
In dat pand zitten immers heel erg veel belangrijke verbindingen
