- People seem to really like seeing video game characters touch grass. So let's see how fast we can do it in Mario Maker 2!
I recently asked for YOU to submit your silliest speedrun ideas for Mario Maker 2 and in this video I attempt to complete them. Buckle up as we try to speed through these ridiculous ideas!

For Halloween-season: Defeat the dead%. Kill a Boo, Dry bones or Fish Bones at night.
Kaizo Block %: You have to activate a kaizo block either in every game style or in every difficulty.
What about friend% where you have to find an escort mission level or pacifist % where you have to beat the level without killing an enemy.
How about an troll %, where the idea is to begin the timer at the start of a troll level. You beat it and then have to one-shot it after completing it the first time.
This is a pretty good idea, but what if Dave has to play Expert or Super Expert to find one first, and _then_ beat the level?

Other planets get around this law by having door handles.
In the boot level, speed run strat is get the key from Boom Boom, and go straight to the key door.
There should be a troll level where the goal is touching grass. I was kinda expecting this to be that lmao.
I'd have made it a bit easier by making "died to a plant" counting as "touching grass"
Difficulty% beat a level on each difficulty. Advanced difficulty% would be death means you have to beat all difficulties again
i mean, if you have to start from 0 with all the difficulties, you might as well just reset the run with the exact same effect lol
with that rule you basicaly made a challenge of beating all the difficulties without every dying, rather than a speedrun that will straight up not be completed if you fail the challenge
but anyways the main idea is cool d:D
One-Shot Johnson% - Like the "Skip if you die" endless challenge but the timer ends when you beat a level in one shot
I'm disappointed by your touch grass% methodology... You should have to complete the level in which you do touch grass.. This should be a requirement for all of these runs. This way skill still kinda has a place in the run.
Keep the good ideas coming. Leave the bad ideas at home.

8:00 I've been waiting for this video ever since I saw you play my level. I've made even more for you. -tcountc
Ideas I came up with :
Nice %: 69 lives on the 69th level in endless (need to restart the endless)
Get Out %: Quit the level after clicking play (can be in story, endless, online level, multiplayer, course creator, coursebot)
Shut up %: Completely stop (not sleep mode) your switch after clicking play in a level (can be in story, endless, online level, multiplayer, course creator, coursebot)
Factory %: Factory reset your switch, update and finish story mode (time starts when you click the quit button for mario maker)
Impossible %: Start a level with "impossible" in the title with 100 lives and finish it with exactly 1 lives in endless (need to restart the endless and therefor get the live when doing the challenge)
Crash %: Crash the game in course creator (time starts when holding on the rocket to reset the level)
RUclips %: Finish a level by someone with YT in his name in endless (need to restart the endless)
Crowd %: Finish a level in endless super expert with crowd control without dying (death = skip) (need to restart the endless)
Fly %: See anything float (red paratroopas and mario on invis blocks count but not green paratroopas) in all endless difficulties (need to restart the endless)
Anti %: Finish an anti without pity in endless (need to restart the endless)
Nothing %: Hold the switch but don't do anything on it for 1 hour (placing the switch down pause the timer and add 1 minute)
Super world %: Play the entirety of a 30+ levels super world (time starts when entering the world)
Wagon %: Play wagon world and read the entirety of the story out loud after finding the right codes (This includes the secret of the credit level that is needed to be found in the speedrun) (time starts when entering the world)

In the last vid like this, I was trying to think how you could turn these into legit categories.
DGR is playing hornorably, but there's an obvious loophole to getting good times on these. Restart your endless progression and restart your timer until you acheive the goal in the first level.
But if you change the rules to "find two levels with the piggy sound effect" you cant just keep resetting the timer on every failed level. In fact, you may as well let it run forever until you do complete it.
Random Elements%:
- Generate a list of 10 random course elements to find and race to find them all.
- Timer ends when you find the 10th element.

Head In The Clouds: Ride a Lakitu's cloud to death.

Be careful though, *the sun is a deadly laser*
Boots & Cats %: Do Boot% (beat a level while wearing any boot/stiletto) and then do Cat% (beat a level with the cat suit.) Repeat 3 times, for 4 of each.
What about Spy% find a level with a goomba mask. Wear it and make it to the end of the level without getting noticed
You HAVE to do a nut suit% 😂
Get smashed% how fast you can die because a block smashes you into another one
Level% Endless easy, but if you die, you have to play another level, you start with 15 levels if you complete them all you win,
How about, "Beat 10 Super Expert levels without skips %"

23:03 The key coins inside the course give you a key.
1-1% you try to find a 1-1 remake/variant and then beat it.
Red Coin % : get at least 10 coins and end the Level where you get the 10th coin. Means you have to clear more than one Level :)
Every Power-up% where you get one of each power-up in any game style (boot, yoshi, hats, koopa car, etc. don't count)
cheated on the 100k timer, kept resetting the timer when he went over, you dont get to reset just because you overshot it adds to the timer, that is like resetting the timer on other levels because you got a level that didnt have a boot for boot %, overshooting is part of the grind
christmas% you win when you find a level with 2 checkpoints.
Hardcore version: with snow

World Record% : Get a World Record on any level on each difficulty in Endless challenge
All power-up run.... Find all the power-ups the game has in it in levels.
Three words: progressive powerup percent - find a level with a progressive powerup and keep the powerup until beating the level.
blooper%. kill a blooper as fast as possible in any endless mode
You should see if you can go from 1 life up to the max on each difficulty.

Heart%Find a heart of a end of a level then give a heart when you finish the level
Golden Shower%: You play until you find pipe, blaster or Lakitu that throws coins. Important note: you have to be showered, it doesn't count if you just see it.

MoleFriend% Reach the end of the level with a Mounty Mole on screen, like that one challenge from New Super Mario Bros U (Only Endless Mode)
100 coins% Collect a 1-up by collecting 100 coins as fast as possible
This competition is boring, if you can skip.
Try this speedrun. Power check. Basically a checkpoint has to give Mario a power up. Once that happens you have to one shot the remainder of the level. Power ups in boxes or in anything before/after a checkpoint doesn’t count. The power up must be from a checkpoint like in Mario maker 1. Any power up can be obtained from a checkpoint as long as it transforms Mario. A tip is to be small mario in most levels because sometimes you can get a checkpoint mushroom if small. This challenge is definitely rng based. Best option would probably be normal mode since they have the most traditional style levels.
Touch Grass No-Skip%
100 mushrooms %: play normal until you get 100 mushrooms (regular, not 1ups).
Don't feel the Peeper % : defeat a Peeper.
Lucy in the sky with diamonds % : touch a rainbow.
Straight flush poker %: get to complete one level of every layout (SMB, SMB3 and so on).
New %: beat 25 #1 new levels. You refresh the "New" search after you beat a level.
(This one is not an endless speedrun, I don't know if it fits the idea.)
You should do touch rock.
D&G&R% First you have to touch a course part that starts with D (donut block)
then you finish the level and try to touch G in a later one (not to hard considering the fact you can touch Ground or Gentle slope)
then you finish the level and try to touch R in a later one (Roy)
hearing sound effects also counts so hearing the Glory sfx will give you the G.
Later you could also try the N&E&V&E&R&G&O&N&N&A&G&I&V&E&Y&O&U&U&P%
but you would have to make the V and U into a W. Even then good luck considering you have to hear the Electric guitar in three different levels.

All Power-Ups%: Play until you get every power-up (Super mushroom, fire flower, Big mushroom, super star, tandooki leaf, Cape feather, Propellor mushroom, Super bell, master sword, SMB2 mushroom, frog suit, P balloon, Super acorn, boomerang flower, Super hammer, Super ball flower) timer ends when final power-up is got.
Beat one WR% and Uno Mas%

Inverted: In your Switch settings, change your left stick to right stick and vice versa, and set your D-Pad to ABXY (A on the right, B on the bottom, etc.). Goal is to beat an Expert or Super Expert level with this control scheme.
The “Boot %” should be called “Canadian %”.. because the goal is to get aboot

Prediction speed run. Before starting/skipping, you must guess the game style. If you guessed wrong, you skip. If you guessed right, you then have to guess the area 1 course theme (sub area does not count in this) before the level starts up. In this speed run your saving grace would be the name of the level. For example, I doubt a level named Bowser's Lava Lake would take place in a snow theme.

I'm not gonna lie. I prefer seeing levels being played to completion, not started and immediately quit. I didn't really enjoy this video, sorry.

Have you ever considered having your own clear conditions? You could even use the wheel to determine which ones you use. Like the next time that a certain powerup, or even Yoshi, appears in a level and you have to complete the level with it (if possible of course). Or getting a specific amount of coins or powerups, or not getting the checkpoints, etc. If you fail, then you have to restart.
Star%
The run ends once you grab a superstar and beat it. You don't have to worry about the star expiring before the level ends since beating it is all that matters
Cheese% play endless until you find cheese
I think it'd be better if he had to beat the level for the touch grass to count.
key% get a key in every style
Maybe I'm in the minority, but this series doesn't do anything for me. It's just skip skip skip skip with virtually no gameplay.
I don't think you should just be able to skip until you touch grass. I feel like that's cheating. Maybe only skip the games that have no grass at all. Just a thought. God bless.

Now I know why I don’t usually click on touch grass levels. It would be more fun if you actually had to play some of the levels somehow. 😅 but since it was you I k we it would still be a good time
I’m a long time fan and that won’t change, but this series isn’t that entertaining… The last time when you had to play the levels to find the pig farts and stuff if was cool, but this time the skipping right away on each one was a bit boring.

I personally don't enjoy any of the categories that end up showing us just skipping levels. I would avoid those in the future.
