DESTINATION or JOURNEY? The Truth about ADV Motorcycle rides

- Опубликовано: 23 авг 2024
- I disagree with what most people say about adventure motorcycle riding. I have heard it said “its not the destination, its the journey”. But is that true? In this video I ride across the dirt roads of Montana. I discuss the idea of destination and journey and argue that it is not what people may think.
There is a pit bull sighting. Viewer beware.

Carne Asada for the finishing touch with the Hermanos! Way to go Brock and Auny, glad you enjoyed the trip, we love following you. God is with you both. Thank you for the videos.
Si. Demasiado disfruta !
Without the journey, there is no destination. The destination is the reward of an epic journey !
I like that
Exactly
What a great adventure buddy!
Yes sir. Thank you. Hope you are well.
I agree you need a destination in life, goals, etc. but you get to choose your journey. You can get to Banff by air, interstate and bus. You chose the CDT and made it your journey. Thanks for sharing your journey. I can’t wait to see what mine looks like!
Yessssss. Great point. Now, let’s ride
Agreed. A goal/destination creates a need to reach that point. It’s what you do to reach that goal/destination that sticks with you in the future…..
Glad you agree.
Now. Let’s ride !
Haha.
@@MotoMission. I’m with ya!!
interchange Destination with Goal and the same is also true! 20 years ago I was all about the Destination and realized I needed to try and enjoy the planning and Journey as much as possible since often tiime more time is spent overall on the non destination/goal parts!
That’s good !
So fun. Great vid as always
Glad you enjoyed it. More comin
What a fun way to end the day!!!!
Yes. The best day ever
Starting issues on the KTM 890 are fairly common. Myself and several of my friends had 890’s and it was very common in the SE for the bikes to start on a single cylinder when cold in the spring and summer. Switching to mid grade fuel from premium would pretty much fix the problem. The strange thing is in the fall/winter months when the gas stations were selling the winter blend fuel you could go back to premium and the bike would start fine.
Definitely think that issue has something to do with fuel since a friend of mine in CO never had that issue until he rode out to the SE and started having cold start issues.
Had some other quirks with my 890 such as the cluster turning off randomly, tubeless wheels not sealing (front) and seemingly needing to constantly check the steering head bearing torque. Finally traded the bike for an Africa Twin and eventually sold that for a Tenere 700 which is my daily commuter and long haul bike.
The 890 is an incredible machine but I think KTM is still working out some of the kinks with that bike. By contrast my 2020 690 Enduro R has been bulletproof and is much easier to ride in rougher stuff which is another reason why I traded off the 890.
Hey. This is fantastic data for me to consider. Thanks for taking the time and sharing your experiences. Are you happy with the t7?
@@MotoMission. I am but I am a bit of a Luddite when it comes to motorcycles. Generally I prefer things less complicated.
For instance, on the Africa Twin they had a similar traction control system to the 890 but the way that motor delivered the power (very linear) there was no need for it. The 890 motor was a different story through - that thing makes some serious power and if I didn’t have TC I could see some pretty serious events that could happen on an inadvertent whiskey throttle.
The T7 is smoother than the Africa Twin but makes less power. But for me it works well for commuting and longer trips.. although I do miss the Cruise Control that the AT and 890 had (btw the AT cruise control was the better of the two).
I’m taking notes.
@@MotoMission. lol
Well if you are ever in the Tellico Plains or Suches area one weekend let me know and you can take a spin on my Tenere.
Let me tell you though, once you get the suspension set up correctly it is a tall bike!
Coming soon. Can you email me
Asado y motocross... Now that was an awesome destination!
Perfecto
And again I enjoy your video, greets from Holland. And true journey and destination are bound 👍🏻
Thank you very much! I love holland
We really enjoy your style Brock, fun stuff.
I appreciate that! Welcome to the channel.
Great show is always it's my call. Smile coffee and Sunday moring theme theme lately. So just a great way to start the day off. I think what you need to do if you haven't done it already. Define, you're the best KT M890 mechanic. You could find get your bike in the shop and have a thorough going through. And and just kind of things that need to be replaced or worked on have that all done because? The places you go, you're sometimes way out there and you don't want to have a breakdown and if you're not too mechanically, inclined to get yourself going again, you may be there a while, but just a suggestion to probably have that bike looked overwhelmed, he reset to go this Spring. My thought for the have a great 1.See you next week peace out
Yes. I should go to mechanic school and become an expert. Maybe someday I will learn. Until then I will just keep on riding
I was a certified Harley mechanic back in the early '70s so and spent 40 years in the auto body business. Always worked with my hands so do all my own maintenance and repairs so it's easy for me to take care of things. But all right brother, get some training. You'll be okay. See you on the trail. Peace out!
Beautiful through there, I’ve said that a lot on this video series!!😂
Keep saying it.
Only one more day until the next video! Oh Boy!!
rusty. it is almost time
I soooo agree with you about the destination vs the journey. I've tried just randomly exploring and quickly discovered that without a destination I quickly lose interest in the journey. If I set a goal for myself, the journey becomes such a better adventure. At least for me anyway.
Phillipines 3:13-14
Yes. Glad I made sense with my thoughts. But sounds like you get if !
Amazing one again, tks man. I do not think it’s still bad fuel, you have something else.
I think you may be onto something.
Great video and commentary to Adventure by!
Glad you enjoyed it joe.
Only 7 more days until the next adventure! 😇
Can you make it ?
@@MotoMission.May be on life support but will give it my best shot!! Hope you’re doing well and getting excited about the new adventures coming up this spring and summer.
Haha.
Looks like you’re riding thru a Bob Ross painting.
Haha. Maybe it is!!!!
I think you’re saying the same thing as it’s not the destination it’s the journey. It’s not that the destination doesn’t matters, it’s the road to get there that creates the adventure and experiences. There’s the old saying you don’t live in the future, you live in the present. Well the destination is the future and the journey is the present. You can’t experience the future, you only experience the present. It’s the present that leads you closer to the future. Or in other words it’s the journey that leads you to the destination and it’s the journey that gives you the experiences such as dropping the bike, guys having to help jump start the bike, seeing a bear, traveling miles of beautiful roads, enjoying a cappuccino of they’re not sold out. 😉 you have to smell the roses along the way. And that my friend is why the journey can be more epic than the destination.
You got it. Now let’s go get a cappuccino before it’s too late.
Hey Brock. I have a KTM 390 Adventure and was experiencing some no start issues. I think I have it figured out now. It just so happened to be the electrical connectors on the throttle body! Maybe check to make sure they are clean, greased, and plugged in good!
Thanks for the info! I’m always interested to hear from bike owners. It’s good to learn from.
Absolutely! Love watching your channel! Looking forward to riding with you one day!
You gotta come ride w me. Cmon !
Where do you live ?
For me it's like the destination defines the journey. And I need to have destinations on my journey. Not only for travelling on a motorcycle, but for my life. With now almost 67 I'm sure I lost lots of my time with strolling around aimlessly when I was still young. Not that I regret, but still …
Yeah. I’m trying to learn from older men. Finding wisdom in their stories.
As always... ❤❤❤
Thank you so much 😀
I feel like the journey is why God imagined us into being. We are Him experiencing ourselves as Him.
yessss
Any chance the start issues are related to valve clearance, not sure of the mileage on the bike, as it seems to be getting worse the colder the temps are getting?
You are very observant. The story will continue to unravel in upcoming vids.
This had been a wild one.
@@MotoMission. keep the epic videos coming, loving every episode.
So good to hear that. I’m gonna go film some more right now !
I agree
Thank you for watching.
@@MotoMission. so, where did you find maps and directions to find the motorcycle accessible parts of the continental divide trail? Most of the trail in Montana is hiking and mountain bike only.
There is a motorcycle route. A few people sell or offer the maps. It’s common motorcycle route these days.
Ready to Repair :D
But I love it
@MotoMission. Was it still the bad fuel/fuel pump issue or did something else crop up?
Known To Malfunction
KTM needs to remap the fueling system on their bikes especially on cold starts 😅
I never had an issue with cold start. I think others may have.
I have since learned what my problem was. It will be revealed in some upcoming videos.
What a crazy experience.
Nice! Should have run the KTM on the track!
Next time! Haha. Yeahhhhh
Hey man! Which revit jacket are you wearing? Sand?
Yes sir. It’s been a good one.
them there Pit Bulls i'll tell ya!! hahaha
Please use caution when riding around there. Danger
KTM=Keep Taking Meds!
Haha
1:49 The bike isn’t playing nice….
No. Grumpy morning
Man....as much as I love KTM 890's....and I really do....there is just no way in hell I'm gonna sell my AT 🤔🤣
It makes me almost angry that KTM made such an awesome bike.....with the worst flaw an avid mile muncher would hate to have the most....unreliability.
I know well and good that it's not everybike.....but it's enough, more than enough that it's become a meme on it's own 🙄.
I love my KTM bikes. Most fun to ride. Most capable off road machines.
This one gave me 25k miles of perfection. But I am now dealing with an issue.
Keep watching. The story gets better. Or worse. Not sure. Haha
@@MotoMission. 👌🤞🤞
You need to ditch that bike and get a Yamaha Tenere 700
Hmmmmm. Do you think it is reliable ? And capable ?
It may be time for a new battery or a new bike. Beautiful country never been to Montana.
Maybe both
But yeah. Montana is fantastic
Meet ya there ?
Enjoyed the video, thanks
Big thanks.
