I have multiple components in same drawing to send to v carve. Is there a way of labelling them so when opened in v carve it keeps the label.

Hello, and thanks for the question. IF you set up your file in Sketchup using labels we sould respect them. If you are having trouble please email support@vectric.com and they can help.

Hi, can you please help, I'm new to VCarve Pro but I've been using Sketchup for 10 years and I don't understand how, in the wikihouse sketchup model, how elements like screw holes or text -- which are just geometry within a component like a spar or panel -- can be on their own layer? It seems that the layering is crucial to allow VCarve Pro to automatically select the appropriate vectors once everything is imported into VCarve Pro, so that the drilling tool path template, for example, can be applied to all screw holes on the "screw holes" layer. Of course it's obvious how separate components like pegs and wedges can be on their own layer, but when a panel has engraved text or holes or whatever, how can they be "put" onto their own layer? I didn't see in the video any way this was done in VCarve, so it must have been done in the Sketchup model. Can you please explain / clarify?

P.S. Hey Guys.... at minute 10:22 you can see the big panel has the text in reverse... I'm guessing that this is actually the back of the sheet?... to avoid that... would that be an example where in the sketchup model you would want to apply the material? And could you have a couple materials like the roof lets say Front Face2 and the walls a Front Face1... and then somehow get VCarve Pro to recognize those as front faces?
Great addition to your software... I am super excited because I love sketchup.. and have Sketchup Pro 8 and I love using it as a CAD.

Hello Frank... this is an old video so I would inquire with support@vectric.com if this option has been added or if there have been any importing updates since 2014... :)

Does every piece have to be its own component if I am going to import over to V carve? What if I've taken a cabinet and started out with each piece as there own component but after its built I made the whole cabinet a component. When i import it to V carve will it separate the cabinet properly? or does everything need to be individual components?

In sketchup, to turn the model into separate components, right click on the model then click explode.

Hey Guys, i have been working with sketchup every day and never found a solution about this one. Each time i am making a complex cabinet or complex jobs i usually making dxf (beacuse of the layer) of all my part ready to nesting. Each component have many layer ( drill with different size, dado, groove..) so each time i import directly a skp file it's end with 1 layer
is there any way to aboard that
    thank you for your time

Hello Mathiew... If I am understanding correctly you are properly naming your layoers in Sketchup... and if that is the case we should be creating a corresponding layer in VCarve. If I'm not understanding, or it is not working for you... I would suggest contacting support@vectric.com and they should be able to dig a bit deeper.

    Hi,
THank you for the video... although uploading it at 720p or more is even better, as you can make out the text and details a bit better.
Also... It is awesome to be able to import from sketchup... since it is such a user friendly CAD software... and I find it to be quite capable too... THank you VECTRIC !

Thaks for that... back in 2014, I don't think we were paying too much attention to resolution... we have since gotten much better. It would be good if we considered re recording these with the latest version of VCarve with any new features we have added.
