Big brother Jabu coming to get his little sister for another day of adventures out in the wild is just so sweet he’s such a gentle kind elephant and it’s easy to see that Khanyisa loves him. I’ve loved watching their relationship bloom over time starting when Jabulani would visit Sunshine at the fence every day after she arrived to those first trunk to trunk touches it’s been so amazing to watch how easily they connected perhaps because Jabu understood what Khanyisa was going through because he lived through trauma himself. It’s beautiful that he was her first elephant connection it’s so fitting as well.💖💖🐘🐘

I'm just so happy to see her thriving and loving life the way a beautiful elephant should be. You guys at HERD are awesome for the work you do for these elephants...God Bless You All!

🐘She’s such a spoiled little girl‼️We laughed heartily at the way way Herman tried so hard to offer her grass when she ignored it to get her own! Love how she’s so adored by all you! She KNOWS she’s loved by “both” herds & when Jabu came to her it was such a lovely moment‼️Every Ellie in this HERD is Spectacular as the Human herd is and I greatly admire you all. At what age will she be when she starts sleeping in the stables with the herd? Do you separate the bulls from the girls so no hanky panky goes on or is ok if they breed? There is a big problem with calves being killed if they are found to be orphaned, by park officials, for reasons like convenience or if they were orphaned for natural reasons, and not human-related causes, and so the orphans don’t reach rehab orphanages like HERD. Many orphans are not found in time either and don’t make it. Timisa, Kumbura and Jabulani were all orphans who were rescued and integrated into our herd, and the original herd from Zimbabwe were also orphans, rescued from Zimbabwe and brought to South Africa.

Even little Khanyisa is no longer a baby but has grown up sizably taller than the wooden fence with tasks growing out. I know the males are a more difficult especially when they are musking. How do you keep them in control? Not the least to say, all your male elephants are as nice as the female without tantrum. How do you control them?

In some of the morning nursery videos (before joining the herd for the daily walk/forage), Adine mentions that they spent moments in the morning and night "bonding" with Khanyisa (human to baby elephant).
Similar to the bonding a mother Ellie would give (as in 24 hour bobding)...except both elephant herd and humans take turns proving the all-day bonding.
The human-time bonding is spent picking grass for her to eat, rubbing her body, talking to her, feeding her the bottles, singing her bedtime lullabies, and feeding her sweet potatoes and Marika fruit. This time also allows them to notice up-close her tusk growth and general health.
The 24 hr bonding (ellie herd/human/sheep) helps the baby elephant to not-stress and gives 24 hour companionship. Adine mentioned in videos that this bonding keeps an orphaned baby elephant's fragile life (the first 4 years) steady and healthy.

Jabulani posed for the camera. He knows he is a handsome boy. And Khanyisa knows she is a very cheeky girl, going after those delicious young trees.

I'm pretty sure that it was Zindoga that the blood was taken from for Khanyisa's blood transfusion. I love the special relationship that Khanyisa and Jabulani have ❤️🐘🐘
