I came across this predator some years ago at Beltring Military Show in Kent, England. I believe it was the first time it was exhibited after restoration.
Beltring was/is a unique immersive experience. Participants are granted unique access to the vehicles. This tank destroyer was factory-fresh, it smelled of warm oil, fresh paint and petrol, oh and money, lots and lots of money. I can scarcely dare to guess how much treasure the Weald Foundation had to part with in order to bring this vehicle back from the dead. The staggering quality of both restoration and indeed the German design was very evident. It was as if the destroyer had driven out of the factory straight to some exclusive Knightsbridge showroom. Every track link was newly cast, crisp and bright metal, the rubber roadwheel tyres were freshly moulded, just beautiful.
When the team drove the destroyer down to the main exhibition ring, I walked beside it, filming for a friend on his phone. It made the ground shake underfoot, the impression of extreme weight and power was quite startling. The tracks and running gear are vociferous, snarling and complaining loudly at changes of direction. That gigantic V12 was competing with track noise, transmission whine and the cooling fans. It was ear overload.
I think the driving team were still carrying out shakedown tests at the time, I didn’t hear a single gearchange after it first engaged drive so they were being very careful with it.
But above all, the destroyer had lost none of its sheer and absolute menace.

They had the vast numbers to throw at the Germans and very good tanks. I'm amazed the Germans didn't make new rear stowage boxes specifically for the new rear profile of the Panther G chassis. You can see by the shape of the stowage boxes that it still use the 2 step side angles of the Panther A and D so it doesn't really quite fit in the Panther G.
