i might as well tell this to the world, so i was able to meet Scott Johnson (the guy who runs this railroad) in person and he showed me and my family 2 of his train places, including an old locomotive shop in a parking lot where he stores 4 steam locomotives named Paulo, Wainiha, Wahiawa, and Kaipu. It honestly was the opportunity of a lifetime to take pictures of all the engines and I did. After that we went to the grove farm railroad place, (the one pictured in this video) where he allowed me and my brother to drive a diesel locomotive hauling my parents. Long story short, best day ever. (it happened on July 1st, 2021)
Old link and pin couplers. Common before the modern knuckle couplers were invented. Used to be able to tell how long a brakeman has worked by the number of fingers he still had😁
Thank you all for keeping the steam alive n hot................ Glennnnnn raised walking the old RR line passing thur Waianae every day on the way to school (but did not know it).
Thanks for sharing this Great H/D video, and thanks to Miss Mabel Wilcox for saving these narrow gauge Plantation Steam Locomotives, which are a part of Hawaii's history.
The low price is $ 500 bought by Walt Disney Its superiority over the beauty of the locomotive is environmentally friendly and reminds us of the past, days of time and good things Video wonderful and effort worthy of thanks
These are outside frame locomotives (see frame and no wheels. They are inside). The locomotives are very interesting looking tea pots for tea...... How do you like that link and pin coupler and he sure knew what he was doing.
This steam is burning wood and other organic materials, isn't it? If yes, it is very environment friendly because it is using "renewable fuels" instead of fossil fuels. In Hong Kong, we cannot see that any more. The last steam train was decommission in 1950s. However, in some far away village in mainland China, many are still in operation in farm and metal mills.
It really creeps me out to see corners cut with safety, such as the locomotive's brakes not working, and using a piece of wood instead... If the brakes are in a state of disrepair, the locomotive should not be run. What other corners are being cut? How's the boiler water treatment program, and boiler maintenance? About as good as the brakes I suspect.
We tried to ride this train but it just never showed up ( waited 90 minutes). Looks like it would have been fun but the location where you wait for it is literally a garbage dump (truck loads of garbage left in piles; old shingles, construction debris, household trash, rotting pallets everywhere, etc)) and not a very nice place to hang out with your family.
as much as the trains are a delight... the greenery there takes the show.

Too bad we lost the Lahaina Kaanapali and Pacific Railroad.
It's like a real life Tilly from the Little Engine that Could cartoon! The super tiny steam engine with the fat smoke stack that is!
I wish I had known about this when we were on Kauai in 2003.
わ
What an adorable little loco!

I was searching pictures or videos to screenshot for helping me drawing an old train station type landscape.
Well done! I worked on the trains with Scott and Matt a few years back.
We are also open to hearing stories of time spent with the trains on our page. Feel free to share.

It still releases carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide gas
Much better and hopefully faster than a UP Big Boy locomotive.
Thanks for the look around of that fine locomotive!

ScottDLR 🗿🚬 I would just be chillin Smoking Pakalolo waiting for the Train! Sorry it's not the Ritz!
ScottDLR That's because trains don't just show up just cuz u want it to, they only run twice a month
This train looks a lot like the Oahu Wailua plantation trains
See how fast you can wind up that train
I would think that many of these steam trains are still in use in Phillipines, because it can be easily refuel.
Awesome!
Wow, that first steam train reminds me of Skarlowey(or however you spell it) from Thomas and Friends.
Skarloey is based of Talyllyn No. 1 at the Talyllyn Railway in Wales.
Are they still running?
If yes would love to visit them!
As of right now, they are still running, unfortunately, it's been dormant for a while due to Covid-19, but it should come back soon
