  • Soke Inoue Yoshimi, Rika Usami's legendary master, discusses common timing mistakes seen during kata competitions. The incorrect sequence of lower and upper body movements when performing techniques can result not only in lack of speed, but also in loss of balance. Soke Inoue presents some incorrect transitions between stances and demonstrates the importance of landing with the moving foot before executing an upper body technique. Examples include mawashi uke in kata Suparimpei, teisho uchi in Annan, and chudan uke in Chatanyara Kushanku.

Inoue Sensei was a true karate geek. His teachings are very detailed. I hope his disciples already absorbed all his knowledge before he passed away.

I am not a Soke, but somebody , rxining to understand the late Master´s legation:
    Timing,
    - for beginners is at least a three stage movement-from legs, through hips to hands,
    - for intermediate, maybe a two-stage movement,
    - for a Master, not me, All the things RE Made All in One.!!!
May God help him in becoming the Master of **Divines in the Heaven, R.I.P Master Yoshimi,
Paul, 67, retired instructor of Karate.
