Next time they're up 20-25 pull the big 3, put cox gicarri and burgess in and make them figure it out until the lead gets cut to 5. Maybe playing with those 3 is too comfortable. Kept saying it last 2 years but the team would pass up really good shots to get Edey a touch all the time.
To say the Colvin hasn’t gotten better at anything is very score board watching, which I know Greg doesn’t do. Myles has become the team’s best defender looking at advanced stats outside of Braden who they look to conserve. He’s in a shooting slump. He’s gonna get it back. Defense is half the game. He’s a million times better there than he was last year
All love to Joe and Kraig but if Furst is who were looking to than this team is in some serious trouble. Right now it looks like whatever Branden Newman caught after his freshman year, Colvin and Heidi got the same bug. Can we just tell Colvin to forget all that defense stuff and start gunning again? This team is seriously missing toughness and a chaos agent.
I raised the front court question at Neubert’s postgame and got hammered. Such a bunch of apologists. You guys have it right but how much is on Painter for use, much less development? Not sure Heide or Colvin get enough plays called for them. Most shots are broken plays opportunisms. Does such use impact how hard they play in general…if you know on offense your job is to stay out of the way? I dunno. Can’t say they bust their butt for rebounds…again, though, is that impacted by them staying away to allow rim for TJR and back court dribble drive?
Colvin and Heide NEED to attack close outs …that solves the offensive issues they are both are capable of elevating and getting to the rim…I can’t explain why they don’t…Painter needs to stress it…defensive concerns are unfixable
Painter mentioned team rebounding, I think it was a polite way (overly polite) to say these 2 need to step it up on the boards of their offense is going to be what we've seen. Their defense is average enough to be on the court this much.
Share this frustration with Purdue this year! Remove the big three from this conversation, they are the team at this point…. And they’re the whole team. The frustration is the rest of the squad… you pointed it out in the box score review…. Nothing. This is looking like 3 on 5 for the season and we better hope our team of 3 each have a great game every game. Officially worried.
You’ll be waiting a long time because Boswell is ass. Unless you’ve forgotten - Braden played Boswell when he was at Arizona and he had Boswell in absolute hell, was one of his best games all year. Loyer shit on Boswell too. He can’t do shit to them, he isn’t even in the same stratosphere.
I love the acknowledgment of how they beat a dead horse with the same talking points every video, but then continue to beat the same dead horse for another 20 minute video. “Braden was great” (30 seconds of coverage) But let’s spend 20 minutes to discuss why the sky is falling because of this 19 point win. After the Penn St and Auburn games, I fully understand that being the sentiment. However after this game where Purdue won by essentially exactly what the spread was…. I don’t really get the point.
because it's not just THAT you win a game you should win, sometimes it's HOW you win it. If you get NOTHING from 2 starters in the box score, that's a problem that will HAVE to be addressed when they face stiffer competition.
@ I get it, but you can only say the exact same shit so many times and have people continue to listen. They literally acknowledge beating a dead horse then continue to beat the dead horse. Maybe it’s a fun listen for some, but I think most get pretty tired of the unoriginal talking points.
Cox has been better than Colvin this year. Colvin is a fake good shooter. He’s a good defender but he just loses interest sometimes and can’t shoot rn and isn’t aggressive at all. Cox has been the best outside of the big 3 so far
Painter pointed out that Furst had a + 28 plus - minus in 20 minutes. He can not score a point with a stat line like that. All summer, all fall they practiced with Daniel Jacobsen at the 5. Then he went down for the year. They tried Will Berg and it didn't work and now he's hurt as well. TKR inside can score but the rebounding is an issue. I've said it before, at Purdue this year is for next year. Just get to the summer with Braden having a chip on his shoulder like last year, then things will be okay
That logic only works if nobody transfers out this offseason. Purdue hasn't had that happen a lot lately, but that doesn't mean we can just assume it never will. If 2 of the big 3 leave next year to chase a title or NIL $$ (or both next year)... then suddenly your logic falls apart.
@@direweaseltjw Entirely correct. Paint is counting on his ability to keep his core group together. He's fighting the times and trying to run the program in the old way. Can he do it? Or will the times overwhelm him ? Stay tuned . . .
Purdue had to play Braden Smith 39 minutes in order to ensure a win over Toledo. This team is a mess and is going to get embarrassed in conference play.
Maybe some of us as fans are too soft... this team as it stands right now is not playing well enough to get a title, and you're OK with that, or you're not.
Heidi and Colvin do need to be more assertive and Colvin tried to show boat on dunk and ended up with egg on his face. Both of them are capable, just do it.
Imagine how different this team would look with Daniel Jacobsen and Kanon Catchings on the roster.

sure, his defense has gotten better.
But Greg is right; 41 mins 0 pts is un playable

Colvin missing a wide open dunk at the end of the game shows him and Heide are in an ugly slump

Colvin + Heide need to step up.... but announcer pointed out they have played the 2nd hardest high major schedule. It'll come
it should have come vs Toledo... they aren't a good team
Sure hope you are right.

What till Boswell covers smith

Matt Pizzo back at it again
I can't wait to see the Smith vs Boswell matchup. My take is Boswell bottles him up.
He cooked his ass at Arizona and owns Illinois already. Not worried
Greg, if you love the Illini make your way to Orlando 😏

Hail Purdue
Greg is too hard on Purdue.
