El Muyo: A Refuge of Peace and Tranquility in Segovia - Narrated ES

El Muyo is a small and charming village located in the province of Segovia, within the autonomous community of Castilla y León, Spain. El Muyo is one of the most characteristic villages of the "Pueblos Negros" of the province of Segovia, so called because of the predominant use of slate as the main material in their constructions, which gives them a dark color and a unique aesthetic. This group of towns is located in the Sierra de Ayllón, next to the so-called "Pueblos Rojos" (Red Villages). The resurgence of El Muyo is largely due to the restoration of its houses, attracting a public seeking tranquility, nature and places away from large population centers.
Strolling through El Muyo is like taking a leap back in time, since not all of its streets are asphalted. The belfry of the church, dedicated to the martyrs San Cornelio and San Cipriano, stands out above the first floor houses. Inside the church, the altarpiece dedicated to the martyrs, recently restored, is an outstanding piece of local heritage.
El Muyo is a mountain village that offers hiking enthusiasts a wide range of routes. One of the best known is the one that leads to the Puerto de los Infantes, mentioned by King Alfonso XI in his 14th century Libro de la Montería.
El Muyo, together with Serracín, Becerril and El Negredo, make up the group of the Pueblos Negros, all of them administratively belonging to the Town Council of Riaza. This group of villages, both the Blacks and the Reds, is a must for lovers of rural life, tranquility and walks that allow you to discover historical and natural details.
Although El Muyo is small and relatively remote, it is accessible by car from large cities such as Madrid and Segovia. Services in the village are very limited, but visitors can find rural accommodations that offer a comfortable stay and an authentic experience of the rural environment.
