My husband and I were married in Maine. We are from Texas, but when they passed marriage equality there, we went up and were married in Cape Elizabeth. You will enjoy yourself there.

Not to say that queerphobia never existed before British rule but a lot of former British colonies still have anti-LGBT legislation that have its roots in colonialism along with the inability of contemporary governments to reverse those decisions in some countries. So happy when I heard Thailand legalised marriage equality.

Joel, are you aware there is a huge gay campground just 45 mins west of Orlando called Sawmill campground resort. It draws thousands of gay men. It is clothing optional. There are many acres of hiking trails, a huge built in pool, they have clubs and bars and shows. There are campsites and cabins, or you can just get a day pass. There are gay men there from all over the United States and Europe and even England. I met some really nice Brits there. 😊
There is a beautiful historical gay town in Pennsylvania called New Hope. It looks like a English Village with great architecture, there are gay clubs and bars and gay restaurants and many gay owned businesses. On the weekends especially in the summer and fall there are many gay people from Philadelphia, New York city and Washington DC. Many go to the clubs, bars and restaurants also all the shops and flea markets near by. It's wonderful 😊

My husband and I own a place in Bradenton Florida and spend many months there, we are cautious but honesty don’t hide the fact we are a couple and had no issues. I agree looking into the local LGBTQ community really helps and tells the story that although Desantis is a problem most people don’t care. Was in Tropea last month and totally a great place where saw many couples holding hands with no issue.
I started doing mileage runs a bit before the pandemic and my partner would get very upset. It was confusing because he'd go out of the country for leisure. Later on we found out that he had FOMO despite visiting 25+ countries himself. Later on we had to compromise on destinations that we'd both like to visit vs ones that the other person had no interest in. You become incredibly independent (Which sounds ridiculous as an adult) but going to another country alone and being immersed in a different culture/language made us better communicators. He went to DR with a friend and they both spoke Spanish with the locals and ate food that I don't eat. I went to Ghana with a travel group that worked well with my low-maintenace, wake up at 5 am and return at midnight vacation style. We both came back with great stories to share. -Fun and decent LGBT presence- Sitges, Spain, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico(They do have a "party" scene), Vedado-Havana, Cuba(Rylac, Fabrica, PaZillo for those wondering are amazing. My AirBnB host's partner own's PaZillo), Chaweng(Koh Samui, Thailand), Nice(France) -Felt safe and welcomed Madrid(Spain), Merida(Mexico), San Cristobal(Galapagos, Ecuador), Chiang Mai(Thailand), San Pedro(Belize) -Solo spots to meet others- Thailand in general, Seoul(South Korea), San Cristobal(Galapagos, Ecuador), Paris(not locals), South of France, Most decent sized cities in Mexico. -Controversial- I loved Dubai and Cairo. I've been with my partner and solo. There's a decent lgbt presence there but I do believe that many things fly if you have(or appear to have) money. Tel-Aviv was very LGBT friendly but not even remotely POC friendly outside of LGBT+ spaces. I've heard many negative things about Greece but Mykonos and Santorini have the gays on lock!
On the east coast of the United States some of the gay areas are. Province town, NYC, Fire Island, Philadelphia, New Hope Pennsylvania, Rainbow resort Poconos Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Asheville NC, Orlando, Sawmill campground, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Key West, New Orleans. Also many gay campground resorts in many states. 😊
I avoid flying whenever I can. Traveling by train an boat is so much more rewarding, especially here in Europe where you can have stopovers at the most exciting towns. It is also great for your carbon footprint.
What a lovely guest episode! Sion seems a wonderful human doing great work. My only cruise experience was Celebrity 2018 during Pride, in which they had maybe one entertainer who was gay, but the act was not specifically so, and the main thing was a two hour pride "party" on a specific deck bar. But I'll be honest they didn't advertise it or invest in it being fun at all. The comedy show got way more attention. I know it was not fully their fault, but I can only assume Sion working with them improved the experience for folks 100X. Now I want to go to South Africa more than ever. 😊 Keep up the great content, all the of you.

Come to any of the big cities in Texas and you will enjoy yourself. My husband and I have done a couple of Viking River cruises and have had an incredible experience. My favorite city was Prague.

I would like to say that with the (blue dots and red dots in America) comment that there are gay people like myself who are (red) and are conservative but the stigma is off in my opinion. Yes there are places that are touchy but I think red and blue is a stigma that needs to be reevaluated. Just like your conversation about countries that need to be reevaluated as well. I think having that stigma hurts both sides because you’re limiting the potential and the people who live there as well.
I would just like to give an interesting perspective the other day I talked to an Uber driver who had a good friend who is gay and is from the north east of America more specifically in New Jersey and moved to South Carolina because there were a lot of homophobic people up here and he is more accepted in the south and feels safer there then he did in the northeast and in America people think the south is so homophobic, but it really isn't. Just some food for thought here while there are a few countries that are extremely homophobic and truly isn't safe, I really think most areas are fine especially tourist spots like they want your money.
Well, its all about timing, eh! lol As a lesbian older solo traveler I wish I'd known earlier about mrbnb. I did a 6 week solo trip to Europe in the spring and in 5 days I leave for Italy (Im in Canada), where I'm staying in an airbnb for a month. wish I'd known there was a gay airbnb lol.

As an Anerican, I cannot fathom the idea of people flying from England to Florida for vacation. I'm not saying it's the worst, there's plenty to love about the state, but you can find anything Florida has for cheaper and much closer to England.
Governor Ron DeSantis is bad for Florida tourism, but places like Orlando, St. Petersburg, and Fort Lauderdale are very gay friendly. Disney is very gay friendly.
Florida is the #1 tourist destination in the United States. There are millions of gay people living and vacationing in Florida. We did for many years. No issues 😊
