TTC Peter Witt Streetcars - Circa 1960

Vintage film footage of the TTC's "Peter Witt" streetcars running on various streets in Toronto circa 1960.
The steel-bodied Witts were introduced to Toronto in 1921, to phase out the old wooden streetcars from the Toronto Railway Company. Some of the routes seen include Queen St., King St., and Kingston Rd. The last of the TTC's Witt streetcars were removed from regular service in 1965. Today only TTC Witt #2766 remains in Toronto, which makes an appearance in the video on King St.
Come out to our museum, the Halton County Radial Railway, this summer and take a ride in an old TTC Peter Witt streetcar! We've got TTC Witts #2424, #2894, #2984, and #2786 in our collection!
This film footage was taken by the late Jim Borland, who would have been around 20 years old at the time.

Ahh memories. I do recall as if it was yesterday, watching Jim's and John Mill's streetcar movies at OERHA social nights in the church basement east of Lower Gerrard and Coxwell.
One I remember in particular was Jim enjoying a belly laugh when he showed us his snow sweepers at work clips. One late winter slush, instead of snow sweeping scene, showed some poor guy's car parked against the curb on Queen. He'd left his driver's side window down you see, thus Jim's guffaws.

Parts along Kingston Road remain almost the same. Different businesses and paintjobs but very similar. King looking west from Bay, there's nothing left from that view.
