    I love the fact that not only do you have a real appreciation for these classic games but you take the time to make detailed videos for each and every game. You don't just put up some 2 minute rushed video you put the time and effort into the videos that these machines deserve. 😎

    I was totally blown away by this game when it first appeared in arcades. Many a happy wasted hour in my childhood. There was just so much more to it compared to space invaders.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  5 лет назад +2

      Yeah, people look back on some of these old ones and wonder what's so special but if you saw them when they first came out there was nothing like them. I don't know if I mentioned it in the video but it was the first full color game as well.

    • @martywolfman
      @martywolfman 5 лет назад +2

      Yes, I think you said something about it being the first game with full colour sprites.
      But yes, indeed. It's very primitive now, but at the time it was the most amazing looking video game, and we'd never imagined such a game was even a possibilty before seeing it. Pretty much all i'd played before this was pong and space invaders. This was quite step up.

      I was a little younger then but went through the same thing with Super Mario Brothers, I'd never seen anything like it at the time, it even made you feel different playing it, hard to explain but it was all very exciting at the time.

    That's a nice cocktail Galaxian cabinet. I've never seen one in person, I do remember playing on the upright cabinet when it first came out. Great game but I do prefer Galaga over Galaxian.
    They should've made it 5000 points for the first free life then every 7000 points. By default it's 7000 points for the first free life.

    Have you ever stumbled across a Tutankham cocktail cabinet ? I used to play it when I was 9 or 10 when my dad had a machine in his hotel bar in 1983 or 1984 . Lucky for me the bar was closed on sundays and I was able to play that awesome game all day . If anyone knows of any for sale please comment .

    Hek yeah! Galaxian was my favorite arcade game, Defender a close second... wait there was a old game motorcycle jumping trucks, ever increasing distance between the trucks, monochrome, with handle bars and throttle, cant remember I think it was called Stunt Jumper not sure. It made me think of Evil Knievel. I can remember on vacation at the beach playing it and kept going back to mom and dad begging for more money to keep playing. Good Times :)

    Although this is called a cocktail cabinet, i really doubt it any bar owners let people drink while playing these since they were expensive at the time. "Spill anything on that you are banned from this bar FOR LIFE!"

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  5 лет назад +3

      Believe it or not, they let people drink and eat on them all the time! They used to call them "Pizza Hut" cabinets because back in the early 80's they always had some in Pizza Hut restaurants (you used to be able to go in and set down, it was a dark restaurant) ... they replaced a couple tables with them and would bring your pizza right over to the arcade game :)

    I am not spaming but there is a glitch in the programming of Galaga..
    That if you leave at certain amount of enemy ships and go to the far left or right corner and let them fly and let loose there bombs. They can't hit you and let it happen for an hour or so then they stop lobbing bombs at you.
    Then it becomes a broken game and you can rack up a lot of points with out there bombs flying at you.
    It's complicated to explain it but I guess it works.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  5 лет назад +1

      I've never got it to work probably because I'm not patient enough to wait around, lol

    • @chuckdupre8894
      @chuckdupre8894 5 лет назад +1

      The glitch works on the arcade 1up as well. It takes 15-20 minutes to execute. You need to leave the last 2 stacked blue bees on the left for last. Let them keep coming down and firing at you. Eventually they will go from 2 to 1 shot each. Then they will stop firing all together. You can then kill them and play the rest of the game without anything firing at you.
      Back in the day I was able to play until level 247. Took about 3 hours. I heard that there is a kill screen at level 250 but I never got there.

      81 was the first year for Galaga but this is the older version, Galaxian that came out in 79. They're pretty similar though, if you haven't played one in awhile you might not recognize they're different without seeing both of them!

    • @ocsrc
      @ocsrc 4 года назад +1

      @@LyonsArcade I recognize both them and I played both of them a lot back in the 80s
      I just didn't realize they had it in 79
      The same company must have made King and balloon
      The sound effects are identical
      With the exception of in King and balloon they had the king yelling
      Help ! Help ! Help, Bye Bye !!
      And
      Thank You when you saved him
      That was a very simple game and that was around 79 that I played that game
      that and I think Megatron was the first two colored games that I played
      the Megatron had all of these ships that would come down and there was a little shooting station at the bottom that had shots going in three directions diagonally and up
      when the ships made it to the bottom they would jump up and down and eventually get you
      I think Megatron was the name of it but I could be wrong
      there was another game that was similar that had chutes at the top where the ships would come down they would be stacked and fall down
      in the video You got Lucky by the guy that sang with Stevie nicks I can't remember his name but they had a futuristic mad max-style video and in the video they went into this tent and that game was in there and they pushed it over
      Tom Petty that was the guy and had the video and in there they had a jukebox and they had a guitar and they had this game that wasn't Megatron it was the other one that had the ships that would come down straight at the top
      That was a cool video the videos from the early 80s were incredible simple but incredible
      I remember when MTV first came on the air
      I remember when there were only 40 cable channels
      And half of those were local
      I remember when there used to be local stations that were independently owned
      I actually worked at a few of them before they went out of business when they got bought up
      Those were the days
