Just take an empty tuna or cat food can and fill it with beer.

It's long been a well known organic remedy for slugs to dig a hole and bury a jam jar half full of beer (but the cheapest or stale one not your favourite) with the rim level to the ground and cover it with a stone leaving a gap to allow them to get under, because slugs like damp dark places...
...then you can do several with one bottle of beer.

Only problem when you dont have the trap covered hedgehogs might show up to eat the dead slugs. And since they are full of beer, the hedgehogs get drunk as hell.
That might sound funny, but they cant really defend against predators when they are drunk, sometimes passing out on the yard and stuff.

If you have a big slug problem, I highly recommend a product called Sluggo. I bought mine in a plant nursery store, but I think that any store with a home and garden section carries it. It's an organic product, and is completely non-toxic to people and animals. It's pellets in a canister that you shake and spread all over. I have a garden and several flower beds. In the spring, I have a big problem with slugs eating seedlings and perennials that are just emerging from the ground. Traps work great, but they only cover a small area.

Try making a barrier around things with copper. There's some essential steps to do it properly, but they don't tends to want to cross barriers of copper, crushed egg shells, or diatomaceous earth. The thing about using copper is you have to remove the oxidized layer as the green copper oxide reacts with air and water over time, but it doesn't wash away like the egg shells and diatomaceouse earth can. You can even surround a plot with a small electric barrier, something with low output that just stings any slugs or snails that touche it.

I use the clam shell plastic cartons (the few I don't recycle!). Put a couple of holes in the top, bury the bottom in the garden soil, pour in the beer, click the lid down. A large clamshell can be left out for several days. I live on Vancouver Island (west coast of Canada), not far from where Shawn lives, and have all the same slugs and snails he has. The clamshell beer trap is great, and cheap (particularly if you're baiting it with Bud ... lol ... which you would never find in my house!). If you don't have beer, put a cup or two of warm water in the bottom of the clamshell, 1/2 teaspoon of yeast, a tablespoon of sugar, stir, and then click the lid down. Works as well as beer, but you can enjoy the beer while the slugs take their last swim. lol ... heck, you can even give the drowned slugs a little flip!

That's how my family does it here in sweden. So simple, just cut the top off a can and stick it in a hole in the garden and fill it with beer or any other alcoholic drink. From what my parents and grand parents told me is that even if they don't fall in right away, they'll get drunk and then fall in and .

Honestly the cheaper the beer the better, and a regular short cup/bowl works even without the lid. The slugs and snails get greedy, slide up the outside, and sink beneath the beer. We used to catch 20 a night that way.
