Amazingly good. I love this band. Just saw them in Seattle a couple weeks ago for the Starfish anniversary show. They played this. Been following them for 31 years now and they just keep getting better. How lucky we are to have them.
Thanks Mr Dada. Great vid. Great songwriting. Very very special, the quieter tracks on the second half of this album. I like this version better than the slightly odd ending on "quietly" on the release, but probably done to get a an extra track on. Also I see no you tube posting at all of Pure Chance, which is a real shame. We'll have to do something about this.
My favorite band of all time is Joy Division followed by the Chameleons and then the Church. I've seen them about 6 times in my life and i can't wait until their September 3rd show here in Seattle with the Psychedelic Furs.
Sometimes this is my favorite song, and the original ending is a salve for our impending annihilation. You ought to do a video for the original. And, I should say, thanks for all your work getting their music out there.
Hello from the furture to the past Oh yes this song...this song For those who have read ' Hyperion ' by the writer Dan Simmons , one sees its allure captive by Steve on this song (or perhaps- a sonnet?) And of course ' Block ' in which Steve casts many references, and that caught me upon first listen, and it should: for those who haven't read the novel it simply is mind blowing, and one will understand how it inspired Steve. The images you've captured have a haunting quality ( the stare of the women most especially ) enriched by the beauty of this song. Thank you..end of transmission Remember, the Walrus was Paul
Really, David Brown.. "Hello from the future to the past" that's a quote from Hyperion? -I wonder, is that from the 1st chapter? That is how you conclude that Kilbey has read Dan Simmons? That book along with "Fall of Hyperion" are stupendous and in my top ten. Have both of them signed limited editions. I know KILBEY has a very eclectic taste in books- just read biography of band- "A Peculiar Notion."
@@daveman439 + I've only now read your reply, and I rest with my comment. Block is laden with references from Hyperion and this song in the atmosphere. Peace, from Texas
I want Steve Kilbey to send ME cool alternate versions of Church songs. I guess I'll have to make awesome youtube videos for a couple dozen Church songs before THAT happens, huh?
I disagree with your choices of tracks and agree with a majority of your choices. Either way, well done on your best of mix. You put Anyway on there. Well fucking done...
These lyrics remind me of the Heavens Gate Cult demise back in 1997. They pulled on their suits and exited quietly(suicide) to the Hale Bob comet. Look up Heaven's Gate occult and see what you think.
What a weird story. To me most songs of The church are about the proces of theosis: going back to the source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theosis_(Eastern_Orthodox_theology) Day of the dead has as well mad lyrics.. very intriguing..
you gotta understand: this alternate version was the first and only version I heard and knew of this song for about 2 years (from the time SK sent it to me until the time the album with the final version came out). I naturally gravitate to this longer version with the different ending.
They used to say that Pink Floyd was a thinking man's music, I think The Church took that same path also, great work guys:)

so prolific - so brilliant - glad I got to witness the church in my lifetime
Thanks Mr Dada.

Thank you so much - one of my favourites...
Oceanic and lovely.

Those are FOUR brilliant bands in one post. I've seen them all -- except, sadly, JD.
3 of my favourite bands too!...you've obviously got fine taste .

Great stuff.
Sublime.

Do you know Martin as well? Crazy. MK sent me a DAT in 84.

How do you know Steve if that's not too personal?
He was making a joke about the comment above his.
Pretty sure Steve has better things to do with his time but hey...keep hope alive. :-)

dadaist2011 Stop bragging. You just wanted to show off more of your video skills. ;-)
Thanks for the upload!
Same but he also had 2 other cuts. Neither topped the other they were just different.
@gavgams thanx for the comments... yes, this version, which SK sent to me on a home-made disc, has a much nicer ending.
