In the United States, when I was younger (I’m 46 now), we called this type of song a “round”. We also learned the song in both French and English as “Brother John”. The lyrics are very sad, but the upbeat vocal mirrors the sound of the bells in the song.

That was such a cute segment. Love when he talks about his juniors at JYPE. So sweet.thank you for subbing it! Its really nice to watch it and know what he's saying.
Oh and I only now realised...he was humming three blind mice at some point. Totally missed that when I watched it live. I happen to live singing in canon. Its so much fun and the more layers the more fun it is.

"Singing rounds," Channie. It's just singing rounds or "singing in a round" (a round is a simple form of a canon, for anyone who cares). "Frère Jacques" (the tune they used in this song), "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," "Alouette," "Make New Friends," "Three Blind Mice," "Dona Nobis Pacem," "Rose, Rose, Rose, Rose," "Hey, Ho, Nobody Home," "Kookaburra" -- all rounds, literally made to be sung this way.

I needed to look it up as well, as I only knew the German word ("Kanon") but what Channie described is a "canon" in English and I learned the one he referred to ("Brother Jacob") in school as well. As far as I know, it was explicitly written to be sung as demonstrated. 😊
