hey Taylor love the show. I dont know if this was just me but there where frames of just black that flashed every so often and it thru me off. Made hard to watch. @ 6:20 is one. I think it happened like 14 times. I did scroll down to see if anyone else noticed. Any who keep up the good work. Plus do a show on pens and pads. Ilike the telescoping Zebra SL-F1 Mini Ballpoint Pen, 0.7 mm, Black Ink (BA55-BK)

That is really strange -- it must be on RUclips's end because it's not happening in Premiere or in the file I rendered and uploaded. I double- and triple-checked both the editing software and the video I uploaded. That's never happened before.

Haven't been through the vide yet. But one thing I don't see in torch reviews, is - ability to use while on charge, and what modes are available if so. Great video. I'm a bit late but 🤷‍♂️

    • @evshrug

Huh. I’ve never thought of using them that way. For me, I use all these for a moment or two, until the battery is dead and I have to resort to my phone LED until I get home (if I need a light). Recharging is fast, and I can’t think of a time when I needed a light immediately the same time I had access to power.
With that said, I suppose you might be thinking about hooking one up to a battery bank as a sort of long-term lantern? Most of the micro ones have to have the LED “head” unscrewed from the body, so they wouldn’t be able to be charged and used simultaneously. For the NiteCore and other all-in-one lights, they may be able to use low and medium modes while on a charger. You wouldn’t want to keep turbo going for long… it’s not just a question of power, but also heat and strain on the LED. They might make for nice impromptu lanterns or night lights though, especially the glow-in-the-dark versions of the Rovyvon lights with the side LEDs designed for maximum spill.
If you’re really curious, I could try recharging my Rovyvon while the light is on, and make a video on it. Just ask in a reply.

Have had my WUBEN (mini) G341 for a couple of years now, and still very pleased with it. (Low-high, max runtime 6 hrs, high 130 lumens - keep recharging once in every 2 weeks.) Wearing it on a necklace all the time while at work aboard ship. You just gotta have a light with you all the time there. On my work key chain, I have a Nitecore TINI, because it has suitable higher max output, for like checking the drafts or something. At home, I carry Olight i1R EOS on my key chain. Previously I had Fenix UC02 on it. - I have several other models as well, but somehow I keep liking the WUBEN best. - Of course I use that at home, too.

    • @evshrug
      @evshrug 3 года назад

Huh, I’ve never heard of the WUBEN before. Could you try to put into words what you like about the WUBEN mini over all the others?
I have or had a Rovyvon Aurora (glow in the dark version with the lantern mode), the Fenix UC02, and I bought a whole bunch of oLight i1R and i2R for my family. I prefer the size and LED color of the i1R over the i2R, but the Rovyvon with Nichia 219C LED has replaced it for every use situation.
I’m not cool enough to be a sailor, but I used to work at an Apple Genius Bar. Apple issued all of us some coin-cell thumb flashlights, for looking inside ports and cleaning stuff, but when I realized how handy they were for keyholes and casting light in hard to reach places, I decided to get my own once the thumblight batteries wore out. I love the Nichia 219C bulb in the Rovyvon so much… in addition to normal uses, I also use it instead of my phone’s built-in flash because the color and sense of 3D depth was so much better with the flashlight (and less plasticy washed-out).

My choice is the MecArmy SNG3, had about 3 years. The zinc body with red led and uv are extra nice.
Have several TIPs and a Tini but the SNG3 sees more pocket time. USB rechargeable and I believe was available about 6 months before the Nitecore Tube came out.

Well done! The info is solid and adding your personal opinions really rounds it off! I didnt know all these options were out there! The reason I went looking into very useful lights in a small form factor is because a few years ago I ran into the "SuperRay Ultrasteel LED Mini Pen Light Cree hid led Streamlight" or atleast thats the only way I ended up finding a replacement, after far too long searching. Anyway, I was gifted mine by a friend in the shop, as I do Autobody work and need to get light into very tiny places and hate having to crawl out of the vehicle while I'm upside down and have my feet out of a window just to be in position for a look.. only to realize I didnt bring a flashlight. I used it for 2 years, found it a permanent fixture right next to my "free" snap-on tiny magnetic common screwdriver clipped on the neck cuff of my shirt. The whole two years I never recharged, just became dependent. This light isnt the most impressive but I think you should look at it! I'd love to see a review! its much different than what I saw in this video alone.. but I'm just so impressed with the amount of light, ambient light and overall need for these kinds of lights; specifically for people with the exact same "but the flashlight is across the garage" needs as I find myself in ALL the time! Please and thankyou! (before I invest in another!) Best wishes!

I have an i1R 2 Eos that has 150 lumens. Removable battery is not of concern. It only cost 15 bucks, so if you have batter problems, just buy a new one. The replacement batteries cost like 10-12 bucks on the other ones anyway, so really not that great of a feature. The i1R 2 also improved the cap and charging so that the cap does not come off now and it pops up to revel the micro USB port.
Great light overall and I use it all the time. Just keep it on the key chain and it is there when you need it. Best EDC choice I have seen for a keychain light.

I know I'm late to the party, but when you compare the cost of a replacement battery to that of a replacement light, it's a wash. As you noted, there were upgrades in the works for many of these light manufacturers. Olight has the upgraded i1R2 with higher lums and the cap that doesn't come off to expose the micro-usb charge port (one of your requested features on your initial review). If this vid took several months, I'll look forward to an updated vid around December 2020. Thanks for posting and keep 'em comin'.

Thanks for the overview of all these lights!
I find the Rovyvon Aurora A8 UV the best keychain light! No strobes, 4 modes (ML-L-M-H) with direct acess to ML and High! And then the side emitters: UV + Red + White!! And it has the Nichia 219C - 5000K / 90 CRI - as front emitter 😍
Love it ;) I now have 3 Rovyvon Aurora (and also the E300s) and I can "blame" you for that since your video some months ago! 😉

Wait… are you sure yours has BOTH a UV and a Red LED? I thought they all came with a white LED and then the option of either a red or UV tertiary light.
I absolutely love mine with the red (and two white) LED and Nichia 219C… it’s hard to think of a better EDC light, except I know the LED will long outlive the battery so I wish that could be replaceable.

Since my Tini is SS it's probably called the tiny, because, after all, it's ....tiny. As opposed to the Tip, the Tini has a delay when turning on likely to prevent a pocket turn on. The OS on both lights are the same except for the delay on the Tini. The Tini also has a different lens than the Tip which gives a larger spill.
I have both and the Tini is extremely (and impressively) bright in Turbo. A lot of light for such a tinny body. ;-)

Hey Taylor, just in case you weren't aware, County Comm has a Rev. 2 of the peanut light that has a built in charging port. The battery is the same 10180. It has a same diameter and weight at 0.52 inch and 3.4 grams respectively, but the Rev. 2 is a little longer at 1.43 inches compared to the old 1.29 inches. Lumens are also upgraded: 8/150 versus the 12/145. There's some new knurling on the body and cap, as well. Hope you can do a review on this new one. I personally have the Olight i1R EOS on my keychain and love it.

The TUP and the arura a5u? I believe (the glow in the dark case with the uv and white side light.) Are the combination of lights I feel will be my last lights I will ever need. I don't mind the TUP size and bulkiness. I personally dont feel I would ever need anything brighter than what both of these lights offer. The run time both of these lights offer is great too in my opinion. I also keep a battery pack handy in case of power outages (10000mah) these batteries can both be charged many times from that. I keep the a5 around my neck always. ( I have your channel to thank for leading me to this light). And the TUP I keep close not always on me at all time but always within reach. After I get a new flashlight. I always find myself looking for my next. Not any more. Great video and this is just my opinion. And my needs may be different than others. But I feel I have a very picky when it comes to lights.

You're interchanging CR123 and RCR123 while talking about the EverBrite. The reason the runtimes aren't as high as you expect from CR123 is that it isn't, it's RCR123. It's a different battery chemistry, and they have a lower capacity than CR123s. The trade-off is that they're rechargeable. Just like with AAA and AA, CR123 is another common battery size that has an equivalent size of lithium rechargeable cell, but that doesn't mean they're necessarily interchangeable. It's definitely a point of confusion for new people, and it would be nice if you'd pointed it out a little better - if the included battery with the EverBrite cacks and someone replaces it with a CR123 then plugs in the charge cord, bad things could happen.

One thing about the Nitecore TIP. When they released their 2017 model of this torch they also released a stainless steel cased model. I bought one of these and found that the detachable clip is extremely slippery and never engages correctly in the grooves on the flashlight. Since I nonetheless liked the actual light I bought one of the regular 2017 model as a gift, and upon comparing them we found that the clip on the 2017 model fits on both of them, and works decently well, but the one from the Stainless model slips off either one.
I don't know if this is bad quality control or if it's one of the things they supposedly fixed with the 2017 release?

Any flashlight that uses button batteries or have built in proprietary batteries are garbage imo. Batteries wear out, so if the battery wears out you are screwed and gotta buy a new one if it isn't covered under warranty. A 10440 light is plenty small for keychain use.

Never really been into keychain lights but the eagtac d25c ti with a cree xpl-hi dome less in neutral has been my favorite.. the led and specifically, the tint are most important to me. I think I have a 2014 or 15 model. I bought a newer one that was supposed to have the same led a year or two ago but the tint wasn’t right so I just have it as a spare. It also has a delay between modes which the older ones didn’t. Meh.
Is it the smallest or brightest? Definitely not.. but I’ve yet to find one that I like better. At least without spending a couple hundred dollars..

I bought a black and a grey A1x in July 2022 from Amazon. In September, I had my keys with light attached sitting indoors on a table. I was cutting wood with a battery jigsaw about 8 feet away. The flashlight came on full power by itself. I went over to click power off but it didn't respond to any button presses. The button clicked, but there was no response. It ran power to zero and I plugged it in to a charger and it immediately lit up again. I tried several times with the button but this flashlight no longer responds. Today, I had my keys in my pocket and the same thing happened to my 2nd Rovyvon A1x. I decided it was time to write an Amazon review by going to my recent purchases list and clicking on the "Write a review" link but the link didn't take me to anywhere I could submit a review. I guess I will add this comment to every Rovyvon review video I can find.

I use a True Utility Lifelite and attached the Olight I1r Eos, great combo. Both small enough in the jeanspocket. Next i'll get the mecarmy SGN 7 with 550LM and alarm mode, for crowded places.

Hay Guy ! Damn good vid. Very informative and interesting. I personally don't worry about disposable cells in key chain flashlights, but totally get your point.

I prefer AAA battery lights to usb rechargeable lights if they sold a light with the same charging cable as my phone usb c I would consider it

I bought me wun a them flesh lights and I reckon it’s on all the time. Can’t really tell how many lumens it’s got but the ones it does have feel real good.

Hey EDC what would it take to get that I1R Olight from you? I love that company and need that light for my collection. I don't care that it is used.

My only gripe about the I1R is it likes to turn on by itself on my keychain. Otherwise, the thing is ridiculously powerful for its size.

why can't any of these flashlight manufacturer made a keychain flashlight (that ironically already has a battery in it) with a blinking/pulsating led (like oldschool handphone) so that i can find my keys if i ever dropped or misplaced them? .
or at least made the switch button glows-in-the-dark, if lighting them is too hard.
and oh, great video btw. might get myself the nitecore tip. had a few other nitecore myself and they have been working great. the warranty was good too.

The Olight's inability to get to the battery is an advantage in my mind because the light cannot come open in your pocket. This happens constantly to me and has caused me to lose the cap.

*I'm still looking for light that basically CHARGES ITSELF!* (and water-proof/shock-proof as well) *There has to be way that 'motion' or 'sunlight' itself can power-up a 'mini-light' that's not built like a 'kiddy-toy' or is just too fragile...something that does *NOT* need a 'crank' that will break after a few uses* (why no 'expand/contract' bi-metals to produce a 'trickle-charge' in flashlights yet?) *I'd pay 3 or 4-hundred for a 'lifetime flashlight' like that!*
