@@ADesertVoice because we are not a static being. we are very dynamic and several things affect our experience. every individual does not have the same ears.
@@ZReviews They did determine that you do need to plug it into power or else you will get worse performance.
@@ADesertVoice Having read a few of ASR's measurement reviews, he does occasionally do subjective listening tests himself to confirm whether measurable disortion or noise is or isn't audible on something. I think the conflict is mainly to do with priorities: ASR basically believes that measurements have to come first and that your subjective impressions should be processed based on what the measurements show. If an expensive product has a ton of distortion, it doesn't matter if it may subjectively sound nice; you're essentially paying more for something that's technically worse. I can see his point in that sense.
What reviewers like Zeos here represent is really more that subjective impressions are ultimately what matter because that's all you're going to experience, in the first place. If measurable distortion sounds nice, then it sounds nice. If measurable linearity sounds nice too, then it sounds nice as well. We're all going to have our preferences, no matter how much measurements can tell us that this is better than that. But for the audio objectivist crowd, that's no better than snake oil because it makes no objective basis to scrutinize what's worth spending your money on, other than because you subjectively feel like it.
Both sides basically have their points, but I ultimately like Zeos because he can be subjectivistic while still accounting for price and how absurd it is to spend over thousands of dollars for audio components. My personal theory is that objectivists crying over snake oil and audiophile myths would be far less loud and accusatory if so much of audio wasn't dominated by expensive products. Even placebos and pleasurable distortion would be passable if it didn't cost so much to buy into them.

I've been using the Sanskrit 10th (not mark II) for a year now on my stereo amp (using coaxial input on the sanskrit). Sounds great.
Be sure to use the auxiliary power with this DAC (5v 1a) - if you power it through USB data only you lose substantial performance.

@@gino3286 I've used it with different 5v 1a wall adapters. It doesn't really matter which one you use. I've found the cheaper adapters to sometimes have a quiet "whine" sound though if you get up close to them. The DAC only uses about 1.5w from the wall (measured using a Kill A Watt) so yea, any 5v 1a will provide sufficient power.

@@ethanboytv2181 Regular USB wall adapter. You would use two USB cables total connected to the Sanskrit. One micro USB to USB into the wall adapter and plugged into the AUX POWER port on the Sanskrit and another micro USB to USB into the computer and IN1/Power to the Sanskrit. Honestly though, if you just go with the Sanskrit 10th MKII you don't need to use the wall adapter, just a single USB cable plugged into the PC provides enough power for optimal performance for that one.

Bought it, and it arrived here one day before the video. I like it. My first dekstop DAC. Compared to my old AVR/smartphone/PS3 (RCA out), I get more sub bass, a bass boost, strong, authoritative bass/drum kicks, a LOT more dynamics, and smooth mids (the famous AKM smoothness). Excellent, excellent pairing with Fluance SX6s speakers (using my AVR analog IN, so amp only -- not using the AVR DAC, obviously). SX6s don't have "too much treble" anymore with this (!). Even on FL1 (the standard filter). For headphones, if you're treble-sensitive (above 15khz), press the center button on the remote and choose FL2: It's -5dB at 20khz, apparently.
My guess is that some USB ports are unable to supply the voltage needed so two cables may be needed.
Right, that is what the Audio Science Review test found. They got terrible measurements on the USB input until they hooked up the Aux Power USB as well. This may have been fixed on this V2 version.
I think the aux usb is meant for people who want to use the usb input for data, but don’t want the same cable providing both power and data (noisy). YMMV with that though.

If you want to use a phone you'd need aux to power the dac.
This is correct. It’s probably less of an issue with most modern motherboards, but maxing out USB current can definitely be a thing. For pretty much anything, if you can NOT power it off your USB bus, you want to try to avoid it.
Between this SMSL, the Schiit Modi 3, and the Topping E30, which one would you recommend? 36
I personally wouldn't worry too much about your dac, you probably can't go wrong if it has the features you want. Amps are far more important
Modi 3 if you don't need remote/preamp. E30 if you do.

i upgraded from a topping d10 to this dac and its deffo a tier up! I even changed op amps in the d10 and still no comparison!
The AK4497 and the AK4499 chips are not at the facility that burned down. Their flagship chips are made, or stored elsewhere. I read it in the report.

Filter 2 and 4 are best. Forget the others. 3 is default. USB is best and you HAVE to also power it with the AUX power. And if you really want to get the most out of it, use a battery pack to power it or plug it into a line conditioner.
Tell your friends at Geshelli Labs to produce an amp that has full-size analog VU meters and they'll never have to work another day in their life. I still can't believe this hasn't happened yet.

AUX / POWER and only POWER. The AUX / POWER is the input USB and Power and the second "POWER" if for the power. The AUX/POWER is to use only the AUX USB input (only data(USB cable with 2 X conductors)) and the second a separate power (only current (USB cable with only 2 conductors)).
I have purchased the Loxjie D30 lately. It is a combo of Dac/Amp (with Bluetooth). The Dac is as good as Topping E30 and SMSL SK10 MK2 when I use the Dac only. The Amp is also powerful enough to drive my Fostex T50rp and Focal Elex. The price dropped to $139.99 on Nov 11. I think the price will drop again on Black Friday.

Got this one on black, very pleased with the performance, i use along a modded Little Dot I+ with Voshkod tubes and a burson v5i powering my 5XX, really nice sounding combo for cheap.

Topping E30 measured sligtly better, ofc doesnt matter, go with the one that has the features you want. Also if you have some money to spend, look into topping dx3 pro, have it for a week and i'm really happy with it.

using both usb on the DAC gets better sound, as it gets more power. i have two of these they are awesome. you also need the new firmware from them. (if you havnt used it with both zeos youre missing half the beauty)

A device on standby should automatically switch to ready based on signal detection. You want it to come on when your source comes out of standby.

Mine didnt work on USB with Roon and Roopie as an endpoint, in case anyone else tries. Was fine though sound wise.

I've owned this for a while now. The usb ports are trash and drop out all the time. The remote sometimes works and sometimes doesn't for volume change. Other than that its aight.

reviews of other people have said that it sounds so much better so much better with two usb plugged in.
