As a non-chemist I can finally contribute by mentioning that you want to flip your lime so the cut part is pointing down into the lower half of the press!
Damn, beat me to it by like 3 hours. Well, I'd might as well help by giving LabCoatz the reason why this is the case. The meat of the fruit is supposed to face downward, the press then inverts the fruit in the process of pressing it. This causes the press to extract almost all the juice from the fruit.

13:30 it helps if you face the fruit in the juicer the correct way. You put the cut side down to basically squeeze the fruit inside out. 19:32 elevated R wave, your heart was beating stronger on the DMAX. your ECG is measuring your ventricular activity totaling around 4.3 mV (the normal limit is 2.5 mv). - For those less medically knowledgeable, I'm looking at Lead 2 or II in the ECG. His ECG shows a MASSIVE spike up; that spike up is called the R wave, it represents the positive electrical movement (at least in regards to lead 2) going down towards the positive electrode of the ECG. in his situation, it seems that after the electricity goes down his "bundle of his" (google it for an illustration) it really ramps up and makes his ventricles squeeze stronger. I bet his blood pressure went a little higher too. careful gamers XD
Sounds like a lot of trial testing because one wrong move and while yes dmax takes longer to take effect, than caffeine, you still need enough of each to get the right "buzz" going and if there's any overlap in the time they are in your system, you could be having a really bad day.
As someone who had a worsening high-dose caffeine dependency, having very bad days including one memorable one after taking nearly one entire gram, (1,000 mg) the moment you said it was equivalent to 2 grams of caffeine, i was hit with a wave of sadness as i waited to see how it affected you. Glad to see you got through the other end of it okay though.
Glad you got better. I love coffee but I can easily see how it could spiral out of control if I didn't exercise any semblance of self-control. Especially since I feel quite foggy a lot of the time.
I feel you dude, i accidentially overdosed on 1.2 grams and my heart's been weak ever since. That had been my daily dose for over a week leading up to that point, and I ended up drinking it faster than i could handle. Stay away fron energy drinks, they are dangerous and addictive. Is there something wrong with me? I've taken over 3000mg in the span of a few hours. 1000mg is a normal dose for me. I mean, yes adhd makes stimulants work differently, but is that really a crazy amount?
The only part of this video I remotely understood was the list at 12:12, but even then Tarragon took me for a ride. What a cool experiment, and as someone heart sensitive to caffeine this was extra awesome.
You put your citrus halves into your citrus juicer backwards. These juicers are designed to turn the fruit inside out. So, you need to put the flat cut side facing the cupped part of thr juicer. It's counterintuitive, but it's a lot more efficient and a lot less messy that way.
Devices meant to squish things are in the shape you want it to end in, not start in. Or, maybe more helpfully, put it in juice side down. Idk why people expect it to work when the rind is blocking the holes.

The greatly delayed onset indicates an active metabolite being responsible for most of the effects. Allyl groups are metabolized along a couple pathways, but the predominant one being epoxidation of the double bond, followed by hydrolysis to the corresponding diol. The other pathway results in a sulfoxy metabolite. Both are often mutagenic and carcinogenic. See the paper "From Natural Sources to Synthetic Derivatives: The Allyl Motif as a Powerful Tool for Fragment-Based Design in Cancer Treatment"
But how mutagenic and carcinogenic are they? We talking a lifetime of exposure for a 50% risk of cancer increase? Or single exposure, you got cancer next month?
@@WastedElephant No way to tell without testing. Some will innocently react with RNA, or even DNA but in such a way that the mutation is detected by the cell and not tumor forming.
Quite apart from the scales mixup, it's a mistake to go straight to the full expected dose. The king of the self-experimenters is Alexander Shulgin - learn from him. I recall reading either in the intro to Pihkal or Tihkal or in an interview, he always started with the tiniest dose, like a tenth or a hundredth of the expected active dose, and titrate upwards from there on subsequent bioassays. This helps to guard against (a) the active dose turning out to be way lower than expected, (b) errors in synthesis or measurement, (c) unexpected side-effects or allergic reactions from the compound itself or any remaining byproducts. Chugging the whole bottle like you did was reckless in the extreme. I'm glad you lived to tell the tale.

There are some molecules that dont perfectly fit into their receptor but bend them in such a way that they cannot easily leave the receptor. LSD is only a partial agonist of the serotonin receptor, but its effects last 12 hrs. This isnt due to its solubility. Its the way it fits into the receptor. DMT is much closer to a full agonist, but doesnt last as long.
LSD doesn’t even get its psychedelic effects from the serotonin receptor, its from the dopaminergic D2 receptor. And LSD has high affinity for serotonin receptors. What youre speaking to is called affinity, its not because they can’t leave the receptor due to shape, the molecules form bonds with the receptor, but just because a molecule fits doesn’t mean it’ll have a physiological effect. The molecule has to have a specific chemistry that allows it to interact with the protein in a way that it results in a physiological response. Your theory would be plausible, if these molecules weren’t non-selective agonists. They bind to at least 10 different receptor families, not just individual receptors, but whole family’s from SERTs, DATs, and so many others. And the affinities for all of these receptors differ.
18:00 As someone who has consumed various different doses of "substances". Higher doses of things tend to take longer to peak, I beleive this is simply due to your body's ability to process the material. For example, when consumed THC is processed in the liver, it breaks down into 11-OH-THC which is actually what makes you feel high. Your body can only process so much THC a minute/hour, so if you consume a TON it simply takes longer to peak and lasts longer. It's the same story with Psilocybin and likley the same situation with your caffeine analog.
@@RyeCA If it's going to pass through the mucosa or the stomach lining directly into the bloodstream (alcohol, cocaine, etc), you won't be waiting on liver metabolism to deliver actives to your brain. But if it's needing to pass through the liver first (edible THC, psilocybin, etc), you will be limited by the rate the liver can process at, and so you will see a delayed "peak" and a longer overall duration.
@@theKashConnoisseur Why delayed peak? As you said it is limited by the rate liver process it. It is continuous process, so liver does not absorb all in and release only after everything is processed.

When juicing citrus, they're supposed to go in cut side down. The hand-juicer essentially turns the half of a citrus inside-out as you squeeze. That's why you got so much spray, because your lime halves were upside-down.
13:35 So I believeee if you rupture the fruit by massaging it, face it so it's basically flipped with how you had it, and use a funnel it should help with that.
Your non-improved results do not surprise me. Even with caffeine, its main effect is on the human perception of tiredness and focus. It's actual ability to improve performance is quite small and shows mixed results on an individual level, depending on the task. So it may help you get through your day or let you do more stuff since you feel more focused, but it's not going to make you superhuman. Unsurprising that dmax works the same way. I've taken 1.6g of caffeine before (over a couple hours) and I can relate to some of your symptoms. I had lethargy, shakiness, anxiety, some feelings of focus (largely overwhelmed by feeling like shit), but also my heart felt like it was strained to the maximum and I was experiencing palpitations. I still felt like shit 8-10 hours later and my heart still felt strained, but if I recall correctly I actually fell asleep pretty quickly because of how exhausted I was. I don't know how at risk I was of actual health issues but it was generally a pretty good wakeup call to not fuck around and find out. Glad you're okay.
So... on seperating the dmax from the allyl bromide and potassium bicarbonate, add it to isopropyl alcohol. The isopropyl alcohol will 'salt out', and the more ionic compounds will stay in the aqueous layer.
0:26 Extracted it once? Nah, I extracted it multiple times daily! On a side note, it is extra dangerous to drink chemicals despite the fact you might have read the MSDS and calculated the proper dosage for DMAX, as the product is so impure and unverified that there might be a substantial amount of deadly side products present in it.

As soon as I saw you measuring the sketchy compound, I immediately thought that it looks way more than 20 mg. I know because I am used to measuring roughly 1/3 of a 60 mg of atomoxetine, my ADHD medication (it's expensive, I'm poor, and the pill price doesn't depend on dosage), which is 20 mg. And basically 20 mg of anything is not much anyway, so it looked very suspicious.
@@meloney I mean, I need about 30 mg for best results, but at that dosage previously barely noticeable nausea starts being uncomfortable. And since 20 mg pills and 60 mg pills cost the same amount, why pay for the former? Of course, it would be much better to just buy 20 mg pills for a reasonable price. Monthly supply would cost roughly 10% of my income if I were buying them as is. What can you do? Capitalism works in mysterious ways.
@bytefu but that isn't solely a capitalist thing. I am from germany and get ADHD medication as well. In my case Elvanse/Vyvanse or whatever it is called elsewhere. Its lisdexamphetamine, 30mg for me. I pay about 5 euros per pack of 30. I could get the max dosage of 70mg for the same price. But painstakingly measuring half of each cap for about 2.5 euros (around 2.75 usd) saving really isn't worth it for that... Noone should pay 10% of their income when they need medication. I know how important ADHD medication can be. Lisdexamfetamine for the first time allowed me to go outside in public and just be myself without overthinking everything which causes me to panic. That would even be worth 20 euros for me per month. But rn per year its about 60-65. I could get even that completly without the 5 euro cost too, if i did the paperwork at the social healthcare insurance. (which isnt a lot at all, i did that for many years and got all meds without the 5 euro minimum self pay) In the US however, this isn't capitalism, this is terrible greed and really sad. Capitalism can work in other ways, such as it does with meds here. The meds still are getting paid for of course. Just not by the one who needs it. I hope that one day things change and you wont have to pay for them that much anymore!
Fun fact, oranges contain compound, which blocks liver enzymes, that degrade chemical compounds, so by including orange juice, you also ensured, that the DMAX will remain in your body longer.
Hmmm hmm, yes quite, hmm very intriguing indeed.

Not LSD if it's only 6hrs for you. Or tolerance@@scthomas1982
As someone who has panic disorder and anxiety, I would have ended up in the ER lol. You are a brave person doing that and great video.
It's the same story with Psilocybin and likley the same situation with your caffeine analog.
goated information. keep up with the good work

For some substances, you will feel the effects much faster
@@RyeCAyeah “some”
@@RyeCA If it's going to pass through the mucosa or the stomach lining directly into the bloodstream (alcohol, cocaine, etc), you won't be waiting on liver metabolism to deliver actives to your brain.
I could get even that completly without the 5 euro cost too, if i did the paperwork at the social healthcare insurance. if you don't mind my asking, how do those compare/contrast to just caffeine itself? also, recommendation on taking them together (with and without caffeine)?
@@frikghorganthere's little difference between them. Most of it is marketing hype so you buy the unregulated Supplement Industry's next super-new super-cool thing for more 💰
You'll get less jitteriness and a little lower blood pressure/heart rate. Longer lasting effects but at weaker strength per milligram.
Adding L-theanine is probably just as good.
But the FDA banned selling pure caffeine powder a bit ago (caffeine citrate😭), so maybe there's a loophole there to exploit.
@@frikghorgan Usually, synergy alongside caffeine. Gives it a bump without the negatives that come along with just increasing caffeine dosage. Theacrine lasts longer but is mild, dynamine is stronger but has a shorter duration. They're both interesting in their own right.

Well, that made me giggle. Reminded me of the time I drank fifty shots of espresso on a dare. I tuned into a hummingbird (a 6'4 220lb hummingbird) and hallucinated a bit. Also think I peed out like half the water in my body. Made the Type-O Negative concert I was at a truly interesting experience.
Also, don't drink fifty shots of espresso. Seriously. I'm glad I threw up at one point, probably would have had a heart attack if I hadn't.
Fifty shots of espresso contains 3000-4000 mg of caffeine. That’s enough to kill a smaller person.
ehhh the average amount of caffeine in an espresso is 64mg so had you not thrown up, you would've had a stronger reaction than what this guy experienced but still well under the the lethal dosage which is 10g so you'd PROBABLY be fine.
Time didn't slow down for you on the 50th cup?

@@TurtleMountain the maximum safe dose is 2g. That was over 3g so yeah good thing he threw up.
Wow. I’ve had 8 in about an hour and it was pretty undesirable especially having heart conditions and being pretty sensitive to stimulants. 50 shots is somewhere in the 3.5 gram range of caffeine.
I flew as close to the overdose-on-caffeine sun without actually having a heart attack a decade ago when I had about 1200mg in four hours. The next 24 and some change was HELL. Diarrhea galore with what I can only describe as the worse flu-type muscle aching, but I felt it deep in my nerves. Didnt sleep for that period, either. Would not recommend.
Truly, you are wonderful. Thank you very, very much for your effort and wonderful work
A lot of the people you're so adamantly warning about the dangers of ingesting homemade chemicals with unknown safety profiles were kids taking a WILD variety of RCs back in the aughts and 2010s 😜
the whole RC mania continues til now actually.

As someone who has been using research chemicals for over a decade, my advice is to use accurate milligram scales and do volumetric dosing. Always start with the lowest dose possible to test for allergic reactions, then work up to a thresholds dose and beyond.

I am by absolutely no means a chemist, but I just absolutely love chemtubers 😂 started with nilered, with bro playing whilst I fall asleep, then explosions and fire, then other science RUclipsrs, and found your channel, and I'm just so happy that I've found content like this instead of internet brain rot 😂 your content is just so flipping good!

I recommend putting the lemon half the other way into the lemon press. Less spraying and it turns inside out easily
Fennel and Tarragon is where you messed up. When it comes to flavors.
THE NAME SOUNDED COOL!
Added my, "mélange of spices."🤣😆
I was seriously debating flashing a Dune meme there...not sure why I had to pick that exact phrasing, but melange does mean "mixture", haha
If you had waited longer you could have made a spice syrup that would actually flow! (Looking up that oleo-saccharide thing to experiment with lol)
Nile is just entertaining, and to me, that outweighs most of these chemistry programs. Nile enjoys pushing the envelope (tasting, smelling, eating, etc)when he can. He smiles and is personable. 😊
I remember two years ago i drunk 5 whole cups (big ones) of dark coffee because i HAD TO stay up 3 days consecutively while studying to pass. I could feel my chest beating so fast and my head was getting so dizzy. But worst of all is i could not study properly because i was just constantly pissing 😭😭
Yeah that was dumb as fuck ngl. Sleeping is actually important to retaining what you study. So instead you should have slept at least a little (few hours or maybe a little more) in between. It would have been more efficient and less detrimental to your health.
@@TopOfAllWorlds It was a microbiology med chem and pharmacognosy exam back to back. Dire situations require dire things.
Localdrugseller presented to the emergency room, where we are now.
5 cups of coffee is what I used to call "getting up in the morning" lmao. When I was a teen I took energy drinks recreationally, and as a result I have a massive caffeine tolerance. I've cut back to reasonable doses these days but I was a pot-a-day coffee drinker for YEARS. Also, fun fact: light roast coffee will tend to have the highest caffeine concentrations, and the darker the roast the lower the caffeine will tend to be. Reason being that dark roasted beans are roasted a lot longer, and caffeine sublimates out of the beans at roasting temperatures.
I drank 1200mg+ of caffeine daily for a few months. Didn't realize how bad it was until the first Saturday I didn't work (so no caffeine) I thought I was dying with some flu type thing.
Felt my inner voice rationalize that I noticed today was the first day I've skipped caffeine. Drank 2 cups of tea and it all went away. That single moment ironically opened my eyes to the realities of chemical dependency and Gabe me a weird sympathy for folks with more serious withdrawals like benzos or opi@tes
I am so glad you are ok.
Is it easy to make methadone hydrochloride? I am prescribed it anyways and wouldnt mind a constant supply though.
“Hey I made this 5 hour energy alternative! I call it 3 day energy.”
“What’s in it?”
“Medical grade methamphetamine.”

The EKG says Emergency so I'm guessing the anxiety didn't exactly pass...
Nah, my Dad is a mobile x-ray tech and he just happened to have an EKG machine on hand! And my mom is an ER nurse, so she took my blood pressure, pulse, and blood oxygen. Never set foot in the hospital...that happened a few weeks later for an unrelated reason I'll explain in an upcoming video, lol!
@@LabCoatz_Science Hey, I wouldn't criticize even if you did! I can appreciate first-hand how concerning those symptoms can be - even more so knowing you'd just ingested a homemade chemical. Just thought it an interesting thing to spot. Glad everything worked out well. Thanks the video.

That was really well done, and I really thank you for doing the EKG and the performance tests.
Your results of feeling more focused but not having a measurable outcome is consistent when non-adhd subjects were given stimulants (don't remember the studies :/ )
Next time, maybe have some onsite medical supervision... Please befriend a doctor if none of your friends are in medicine since I'm legit concerned you'll accidentally self delete.
Well we all chug some caffeine or alcohol every now and then, might as well chug all at once. You want caffeine? There, have a caffeine.
@@Cpt_John_Price Not everyone does. I certainly don't. Besides even chugging those drugs is in much smaller quantities and you're more likely to vomit it back up before you get too poisoned.
@@Cpt_John_Price Usually those are a lot more diluted and thus consuming large enough quantities to cause harm would likely also induce vomiting. Besides, I don't consume any caffeine or alcohol ever so the "all" doesn't really apply to me :)

xD good lord dude you're the best
Put the halved fruits inside the juicer so the inside of the fruit faces the holes. Feels counterintuitive at first because of shape, but if the holes (the escape location for the juices) are on the bottom and you put the fruit meat facing upward, you'll be trying to push the fruit juices through the rind to get it to pour out of the holes.
A CNS stimulant with less chance of cardiovascular side effects? Seems like something that would have been studied as an ADHD treatment.
Caffeine apparently doesn't activate the right receptors to help with ADHD. Caffeine isn't really very good at releasing monoamines, but rather seems to work as an antagonist for adenosine receptors that tell your body you're tired. A cardio-safe analog of one of the monoamine releasing stimulants would be nice, though.
@@CDCI3 Right, caffeine doesn't do much for my ADHD, no matter the dosage. Atomoxetine, an SNRI, definitely does.
@@CDCI3 By the way, atomoxetine is cardio-safe, as far as I know. But, of course, it's not nearly as effective as amphetamine derivatives. Not addictive at all, though.
@@bytefu Interesting I knew SNRIs were used for treating depression and compulsive disorders, I had no idea it was used in ADHD. Does it help with just focus, or does it work with hyperactivity as well?
@@robloggia I don't have much hyperactivity to start with, so can't say for sure. But it definitely helps to focus and reduces impulsive behaviour, like cravings (alcohol and nicotine included) and buying unnecessary crap at grocery stores. Atomoxetine also reduces appetite, that's a plus for me.
Did you struggle to sleep that night?

Can you even imagine coming back to see how LabCoatz is doing to find he hasn’t uploaded in years and then find out he accidentally off’d himself by taking 2grams of fucking caffeine to the face?! I’m just…you are so lucky dawg I am so glad you’re alive.
I used to drink a bunch of caffeine. I'd be so jacked up, all the meth heads at my job were looking at me like, where he get his chit!? 😂. But the first time I had energy drinks... I used to work out a lot. I would do calisthenics first then go to weights. I figured I'd try an energy drink. So I road my bike to the store about a mile away. Going as fast & hard as I could. I ended up buying 2 energy drinks. One red bull & one sobe. The sobe was an actual energy drink they had in a can. Not the regular sobe drink marked energy.. so anyhoo.. I chugged one of the drinks before I left the parking lot. I drank the second one on the way home while riding swiftly, keeping my heart rate up. When I got home, I sat down, grabbed my dumbbells & was watching TV. I made it a few sets in & out of nowhere, my eyes spring open, my heart starts racing & I'm shaking. It hit really quick. I thought I was going to die 😂. I was rocking back and forth, my vision kept going white. I couldn't get up or call for help 😂. It finally started chilling out & going away. 15min. of hell lol. I cant remember if it was that or breaking my foot, that ended my workout routine.
Definitely be very careful with chemicals, even legal ones.
I had 160mg in a Monster once, and I had a panic attack driving home, lol. I apparently have a lower caffeine tolerance, so I usually stay below 100mg...an 8oz Red Bull or half a Monster works well for me if I'm trying to study or work out, but my resting heart does kick up to roughly 100 BPM, so I'm not a huge fan of the stuff. I do love the taste of an energy drink though, lol!
@@LabCoatz_Science The reason I prefer Monster to other energy drinks is that (at least over here) they seem to contain the same amount of caffeine as many other brands, but the concentration is lower because they contain way more water.
Thus you can more easily vary the rate of absorption by just drinking it slower, well, that and they have sugar free flavors that actually tastes decently good and they use sodium citrate instead of phosphoric acid, which I in my madness have convinced myself is slightly better for my teeth. Even if it is a chelating agent.
@@LabCoatz_Science if the labels are 100% ocrrect and my calculations from back then arent wrong thne most caffeine ive ever had was about 1g (monster coffes and energy drinks, dont remember exact amounts), that combined with lack of sleep (for various reasons) and being forced to carry heavy things up and down a few flights of stairs for a while once made me think i was gonna die, by the end i think i passed out on my bed when i got a break.
0/10 experience, never did anything like that again.
Otherwise my caffeine tolerance is quite good though. my family members basically avoid even touching the coffee i buy due to how strong it is (effect/caffeine amount-wise) compared to normal coffee lol
@@Dragonia I used to have 600-1200 mg of caffeine daily, for about 5 years. It was a night shift job and I never could get the hang of sleeping during the day, so I was always tired. Somehow, I made it out ok despite all the caffeine and getting
