Fixing a Cat Backhoe I bought on Marketplace (it happened to be the cheapest too)

- I bought a new to me Cat 436C backhoe loader. It has higher hours, but the backhoe has 4x4, a 4n1 bucket or clamshell bucket, rear auxiliary hydraulics, and extenda-hoe option. In this video I do a walk around of it and start making repairs to it. I will have more videos of working on this machine in the near future.

I was on the team that designed the first cat backhoes. I designed the buckets, bucket linkages, the multi purpose loader bucket, and a version of the extendable stick.
For real?
@@danw9946 yep, for real. I think I started on the team around 1982.
@@hamilde that's awesome!
I have one 428b... Do you have any photos from your work to show to my father?
That is so cool! What was the final reasoning for the smaller front wheels vs 4 equal sized wheels??? I've been wondering for years!!
They loves these in Mexico. I've sold a 9000 hour unit with cab no a/c for $36k this past year
it's hard to comprehend , HOW anyone can own such a well made piece of equipment and operate IT without any Maintenance to keep it's value for resale !
Would you mind sharing what the purchase price was and how much you have invested in repairs?
Probably between 13k and 18k
Probably should check ser number since it cranks with knife!
love the starter lol
That Cat requires 2 large batteries! The compartment is setup for it.
We have a similar Cat Backhoe. Have you had any issues with a loss of power going up hills or while running the hydraulics? Ours is very weak in 3 while driving it up any kind of hill and actually dies when running the hydraulics with very little load. Thanks.
Hello did you solve your problem ?
After changing those fuel filters did you have to prime at all or does the fuel system self prime?
You made a good find. And good job. Did your seat suspension collapse? Or have you had to work on it? You probably don't have the machine now in 2023 but I am having problems with one.
Do you know the "new" price of a 420 ?
I really think that isn't the right battery for the machine.
I don't think so either.. I'm going to replace the battery
@@dobronos Mike check the specs for the oem battery as far as group and cold cranking amps. It may call for (2) 6 volt batteries. Good luck and keep on!
@@Lakesidearmorer Thanks for the help!!
Wrong battery, need one post not studs, that ones a truck battery.
Why have you changed the fuel filter twice?
there are two different fuel filters
@@dobronos Where the second one goes?
It's a 4 stick backhoe I thought they did away with that in the 80s
It really sucks.. I'm not used to it at all.
Well I have a Ford 655 it has that same setup it's like playing the piano, but nice find I wish I could have a caterpillar
@@natel2046 Do you have any videos on it? A couple guys around here still run them
Well my RUclips channel has a few things tractor related on there but nothing on my Ford backhoe yet, planning to do it once the snowy and cold weather is gone here in New Hampshire, Just like you I'm going through my backhoe right now replacing windshield, hydraulic pistons and tires and spending stupid money on it but got to do it.
I love four stick no wobble link to wear out
You are kidding us
You did nothing substantial you are wasting our time watching nonsense
Why didn’t you make a video changing seals etc ?
Great video! I need to pick up a used backhoe soon! In the next couple of weeks....
