First, you should understand that Individual Unemployability benefits, 100% ratings, and permanent total disability ratings are different things. Our VA-certified disability benefits lawyers find these ratings often confuse disabled veterans. First, Individual Unemployability does not require you to obtain a 100% rating, but they pay the same. Individual Unemployability is not necessarily permanent. If you return to work you could lose your Individual Unemployability. However, veterans can receive a 100 percent rating while working full-time.
You may be service-connected for either one or several disabilities that result in a combined rating of 100% service connection, or you may be receiving compensation and being paid at the 100% rate because you are unable to work due to your service-connected impairments which are known as total disability individual unemployability (TDIU). These are two different things and there may be some variances in benefits, such as special monthly compensation, educational benefits, dental benefits, and various allowances.

You can be less than 100% combined rating and become TDIU or PTIU with 100% pay and full benefits, plus Chapter 35 benefits for dependents. If the VA determines it is less likely than not that your conditions will ever improve, and they impair your ability to find or maintain gainful employment, and you have either a single 60% rated disability or a combined rating of 70% with one of your conditions rated at 40%, they will award you Permanent and Total disability with Individual Unemployability (PTIU). Same with TDIU except the conditions are not considered permanent. If you are PTIU, you are protected from future re-evaluations, but not for TDIU.
Plus, if you are PTIU or TDIU, you can still earn money through employment, so long as your income remains below the national poverty level for single status. If you are just 100% rated without IU status, you can make all the money you want.

Larry, this webpage should answer your questions regarding working with a 100% rating. www.woodslawyers.com/can-i-get-100-percent-va-disability-while-working/

No limit on P&T… TDUI limited to the poverty level which is about $12,000 a year for yourself plus around $4400 more each dependent. So family of 4 is around $25,000. One thing to note about TDIU is that if you can show that you can not hold a job 5 days a week 365 days a year and it's due to your service connected disabilities, you are considered unemployable. Also you don't have to have a VA Doctor, you can see a private Doctor to evaluate you. You only have to show 51/49 more likely then not... You need to find you a good VSO and also go to your local DAV...

Larry Lauger hi Larry, did you ever get a straight forward answer for that question? I just found out I am rated 100% P&T but don’t know if I am allowed to work or not.

So if you are TDIU can you get 35 chapter benefits for your family? And what other benefits can you get? I'm already 100% disable but not total and permanent. I just want to know the difference of the benefits between the two iu and 100% disable. Not total and permanent.

It pays exactly the same on everything. They are two paths to the same benefits.
However, you generally cannot work with unemployability (hence the name)

Are any of y’all having problems getting appointments with specialist through the VA’s community care program? They switched from Tricare West to Optum and it’s a nightmare!

Any experience with people on IU being able to get the disabled 100 tax exemptions or other 100% ratings benefits that some states provide?
Like I know some make you not pay property taxes if 100%

Google Veteran Benefits property taxes, that will give you a list of states with the best benefits for vets with 100%

As of this year, the starting monthly compensation for a veteran with a 100% rating is $3,332.06. However, veterans with dependents are eligible for additional compensation. There are other factors that influence monthly compensation, including whether a veteran is eligible for special monthly compensation. Outside of the VA, veterans may also be receiving military retirement compensation or social security disability benefits. Together, these benefits can easily add up. I hope this is helpful!

@@GonewithRob but, only if one has teeth, lol. I found out since implants are cosmetic, and $2000 per titanium implantvscrew with an abutment, they do not cover them. ;(

@@NonPremiumID I live in Ecuador. Dentists and orthodontist here are very inexpensive. There exists a thriving dental tourism industry here because of the low cost. For example, a cleaning and whitening cost me $50.

I was also told that implants are not covered but they wanted to do a bridge which will cause 3 additional teeth to be destroyed in the process.

Dental Implants must go before a Board for approval .
