Love your car. Got the same car and looking to do similar mods. So far a Cobb tune and exhaust. One thing that always seem to bother me is the wind noise along the doors. You going to do a short shift kit there?
Thanks Bobby, me too! Stage 2 is the way to go on these cars, so you're on the right path. The wind noise is usually because the rubber window surrounds are worn. If you replace those, you should be able to enjoy your frameless windows again... and there's no short shift kit planned, for now. I don't mind the rally-length throws :)
So what you're saying is, the screen can be modified to fit a backup camera. I agree, but how does that make the circa '05 navigation any good? Maybe if you're navigating a parking space 😁
@@latentwagen8644 yeah! That's the only good thing it has! I already installed a backup camera on mine. But I wish to know a good android radio/nav to replace that actual one.

I couldn't find those SSR Competition wheels. It looks like they're called Type C. They must not make them anymore. I found one set on ebay that seemed to be them but was labeled as 17x7.5. Oh well.
I'm from Germany and I have an 2007 Spec B. 3.0! Do you know where I can get the Legacy STI frontbumper for this car? I really enjoy it when you give me a reason :)
There are used parts here and there in the states but the best way to find the JDM front end (need lights and fenders, too, if I recall correctly) is to source it all from Japan. Hopefully it's not too much of a hassle for you to import to Germany, because it would be a great upgrade! Good luck :)
Thanks Luigi; I try to keep things simple, with function being a priority over form. To me, it's a pretty good looking car in stock trim, so less is more. The alternator cover and radiator shroud are both by Subtle. GrimmSpeed also makes nice options, but I like the fact that the Subtle pieces don't have any logos. True to their name!
Have you had any issues with your aftermarket downpipe and passing New York State inspection? I also live in NY and I'm concerned as to what an aftermarket downpipe would do as far as passing inspection.
A rebuilt motor, if done correctly, is perfectly fine to run as hard as you want. If it makes good oil pressure, doesn't make any weird noises, or blow smoke, you're probably fine. Get a compression test for more peace of mind. Why have a quick car if you're not going to use the go pedal, amirite?!
@@latentwagen8644 the only problem I have is the car is running lean apparently, should I use a lower octane gas? No vacuum leaks or boost leaks, then I’ll do some nice pulls! Thabks
@@carlitos.1 if it's running lean you should definitely address that before driving much more at all, let alone running it hard. A fuel pump, injectors, and maybe a pressure regulator would help along with some tuning to make sure your fueling is dialed in... good luck!
Yes sir, stock spec. B tophats. I stayed away from camber plates, as I've been down that road before. Just new OEM when I installed the RCE's (re-valved KW's). I was very happy with this setup.
They're great cars, but can be hit or miss when it comes to reliability. Most issues revolve around blown turbos, motors, or both (usually one after the other). Problems usually trace back to poor oiling or ignored maintenance. And a bad tune can ruin one in an instant. On the other hand, the EJ motor can last a long time if you do a few things. Keep it full of clean oil, watch for boost/vac leaks, and drive with some mechanical sympathy. My suggestions for driving: take it easy until oil is fully up to temp. Don't boost @ low revs in high gear. And no WOT/high revs around high-g corners (unless you have a dry sump setup!).
Because it's from '05, when it came out in the '06 spec B and other Subarus with nav. Usually these systems go into design a few years before production, so it's ancient tech at this point. Not even worth the updates, just Waze it at this point...
I went through a few shift knobs on this car. Had a red 2015 STi, the JDM STi, and a Prova Nurburgring knob as well. Favorite is the JDM STi knob because it's so well made, heavy, and can't go wrong with leather and aluminum.
@@GreatGrandmasterWang Cracked oil pickup tube was the last issue for me, and rather than rolling the dice for another round, I moved on. The next owner replaced the tube and said it ran fine. I'm not sure what happened to the car from there! I kept the wheels 😎

Truth! The brakes were a bit of a giveaway for those in the know but for most people it just looked like a Camry 😆

That Nav is not that useless at all! You can install backup and front cameras without the need of replace that unit!

Sure, sorry for the slow reply!! They're 17" by 8.5", +48mm ET

Looking at a 08 lgt or 08 lgt spec b with a 5k price difference. Is the spec b worth another 5k?

Hey Luke thanks a lot. The AP window mount is from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Windshield-Suction-Mount-Tuning-AccessPORT/dp/B00IMJ2S1K

None, the Cobb catted setup was known for agreeing with emissions, which is why I went with it as well. Hope you found one!
Is a rebuilt engine stronger than the one before rebuild? My legacy has a rebuilt motor and I avoid doing pulls just because it’s a rebuilt motor
