- Words cannot express my gratitude for the incredible George Furlanetto and the wonderful people at @fbassinc.
For years George had it in his mind to build an instrument for me that would rival my beloved Ken Lawrence. Well, he nailed it,. This bass sounds absolutely incredible! After 23 years of playing my Kenneth Lawrence Unity 6-string as my main bass, this new BN6 will likely become my main instrument. Once again, huge heartfelt thanks to George, Marcel, Aleef, and the entire F Bass crew.

Goooo BN6. Bought one used from a fellow bass player in Texas. Have to set it up now. Two of the HipShot saddles were shot but hipshot sent me replacement parts. Great customer service.

I have **never** heard or seen an F Bass that *wasn't* a masterpiece! You make it sound fantastic, and I can't wait to receive my second-ever 6 string bass within the next month or so! I had one...20 years ago! I was far too young and inexperienced to know what to do with it the 6-string then...now, the only thing that has changed is that I'm older! 😅

Beautiful. I just picked up a Gould GGi-6 Fretless to compliment my GGi-5 and this is exactly what I need to inspire me to get used to that extra string and get down to the shed.

Gorgeous, piece and bass. Would love to know the specs on your new instrument, i.e., woods and pups, etc.
I had no doubt this would sound marvelous with you playing it. It looks like a beautiful bass. Seeing this brought a question to mind: What was the tipping point to you first choosing to play a high-end/boutique instrument - what was the opportunity or removal of an obstacle they provided? Music is its own pursuit, of course, but your artistic voice clearly makes the most of the high-end instruments you use. Not owning a truly high-end instrument, I sometimes wonder where that fork in the road is to using a different class of tool. Cheers!

Beautiful playing! I am searching for a six string bass and my top three so far are the F Bass BN6 and VF6 and the Atelier Z M-285. I came up playing J-basses and I find that I need wider string spacing than is typical on most common six-string basses.
Does your BN6 have the 34.5" scale length? If so, do you find that it makes chordal playing more challenging?

Hi Rich, I love this progression - your "ode to a beautiful instrument" - and the simple but beautiful melody you create though your finger picking. The way you often lead with the melody note, or anticipate, helps me think about ways that I can better connect chords on bass. I do hope you expand this piece into a larger solo piece - it's definitely worth (plus, I'll learn more 🙂). By the way, it doesn't sound like you're using the capo on the first fret yet since all the notes you play are fretted; do you have the capo on because you plan to use the open strings at some point? Or, were you using it to play other things when you came up with this idea? Thanks for sharing this new piece as well as all your great lessons on the Brown'sTone!

Thank you so much for your very kind words. That means a lot, my friend. I'm not using a capo here. That's actually a fret wrap to stop any sympathetic vibrations. It's always been difficult for me to keep the strings quiet, especially when using this picking technique. I'm glad you enjoyed this little idea. The next lesson will be up soon, which will be all about playing chords on the bass. Stay tuned!

A few questions: What are the specs of that beautiful instrument(woods/pickups/preamp, etc.)? Is the headstock angled or straight? Steel, nickel-plated steel, or stainless steel strings? If you get a chance to answer these questions, thanks!

I'm using the Silver Verb effect in Logic, but on gigs I use the mxr reverb and the Big Sky by Strymon. Thanks for the kind words!

Sounds like a lot of chorus and little clean tone. Doubt I would be able to tell a Squier from an Fbass with this chain.
Just a touch of reverb and that's it.
@@richbrownbass respectfully, it's hard to believe you don't have some modulator like a chorus. Perhaps a weird case where the reverb's delay creates a similar effect.
