Toonami was a massive part of my childhood back in the day. I can tell you it started out as a block on Cartoon Network in 2000, showing DBZ, Tenchi etc about 4.30pm every afteroon. In 2002 it spawned into it's own channel on Sky/NTL/Telewest called CNX, which showed all the friendlier kids stuff by day and adult anime/shows at night. Around August 2003 it split into Toonami by day and CNX by night. The first half, more kids friendly stuff. CNX took over after dark and went sort of adult swim. CNX ceased to exist during 2004, Toonami was 24/7. But still showed DBZ, Tenchi and all the other usual anime stuff from previous years. U went off it all follwing that. But by the time I checked on it in 2007 it was a mere shadow of itself. No anime, most of it was live action shows and it soon became Cartoon Network Too. Or something like that.
yeah I wish things stayed the way they where, toonami was part of my childhood aswell. Haha I remember all them strange shows late at night, I do remember space ghost coast to coast and then weirder shows afterwards
Cartoon Network has gone rubbish nowadays!!! I want DBZ to reair again on either Cartoon Network or Fox UK (sky channel 124) uncut version Ocean / Canadian Dub. Obviously it would be epic I would start record it on VHS then convert it into a DVD.
Omg yes I miss sky games so much, there was this Cartoon Network fighting game that had characters from Foster’s and Tom & Jerry that I would always play, it was literally all i played until I got a wii
Yeah, Toonami was a thing until around 2006 when it became Cartoon Network Too. I didn't watch it that much, it was pretty much only Pokemon for me, but there we go. People still loved it.
I cant believe people question this tbh. Side not, I just had to pause the video a couple of times just to take it all in. This brought back some serious memories seeing all these old shows i used to watch.

Toonami was on some Cartoon Network channels as a block of hours which showed Adult Swim stuff. It then did launch as a full 24/7 channel (I worked in the TX suite). I can't remember if it then became the channel CNX, or if CNX became Toonami.

This is about right because the CNX channel ended the same year (2003) in early September, only last 11 months, but it was great whilst it lasted. Toonami was basically a re-branded CNX, but without most of the great programmes.
Yeah, I remember Toonami as a seperate channel. Back when I was little, I watched Toonami and it was epic. Toonami UK/Ireland will be revied sometime in 2016 as a channel for children. It is passed its time, as anime wasn't popular for long with Pokemon, Digimon, Monster Rancher, Sailor Moon, etc. If they want to revive Toonami either a time-share channel with [adult swim] or progrmaming block on Cartoon Network...better still, bring back cnx, at the same time, retaining the [adult swim] block on Fox. CNX may be popular if they get the programming right; Triple A movies should be shown weekly, monthly or on special occasions. Ratings and money. CN doesn't give a damn what it has to air as long as it pulls in ratings, make them (and advertisers) money and doesn't cause a media firestorm. The same thing applies to the years before Toonami when old Hanna Barbera cartoons ruled CN.
One of the main reasons for low viewership is the accessibility to the internet. Once more people had access to new anime with no commercials or censorship months in advance, Toonami just could not compete. 60+ million views a day for a cartoon block is very very hard to sustain in this era especially when your cash cow DBZ is over.
In broadcasting everything comes down to ratings and money, it's rarely about personal feelings or simply being evil to fans.
Low on budget.
