reference book of history like spectrum, R S sharma, Satish Chandra books are very useless now. Not a single question comes from it don't waste your time on this books.
There is NO BOOK from which direct questions are being asked. Those books are great for covering the basics. Applied questions - which come in mains - will require you to use the info that you have learnt and put it in a perspective.
@@UPSCprepIAS Sir imagine Reading hundreds Pages of books and still not single question occurre in prelims exam, Above books are not reliable now.Only government books are reliable. I have read the history books of YCM (Yashavantrao Chavan Mukt Vidyapith) from which some question comes in exam, This books was in Marathi but still was better in terms of output.
Hello everyone, I am an engineer by passion but wanted to know more about geography, history (india and world) and politics. Although I have been reading newspaper for past 4 years nearly everyday to update my knowledge, still I find gap in my understanding these systems as a whole. Can any upsc aspirant suggest me some books to get the overall perspective. I have read books by international authors like the sapiens series and guns germs and steel, but their cover for india is quite limited.

History: Rs sharma, spectrum+ bipin chandra's India's struggle for freedom for some addition, Satish chandra. Society- Ncert, Newspaper, Any good coaching Notes Art and literature: Nitin singhania Enough

You will have covered 90% of the syllabus.
As with everything else in UPSC CSE, you can do without the last 10%.

Technically speaking, RS Sharma and Satish Chandra wrote the old NCERTs. So those are also government books if you look at it that way.
