  • In this video, I go over the steps to upgrade HPE Aruba SDWAN enterprise appliances, previously know as Silver Peak SDWAN. Process is super easy, to me the easiest network device upgrade process. All done from Aruba SDWAN orchestrator. Few clicks and your SDWAN appliances are upgraded.
This upgrade process takes all the complexity out of the equation. Downloading the software, tftp'ing to the devices and running commands are thing of a past.
Simply select the device you want to upgrade, run the upgrade wizard, pick your desired software version from a list and upgrade. That is it.
For High Available sites orchestrator acts a bit different. Edge HA sites are treated with some care where traditional HA sites are treated like any other site. This is because Traditional sites are mainly for your Data Centers or HUBs and you treat them with special care and plan a lot before you actually upgrade. Edge HA is for branch sites that needs high availability.
Due to special configuration, orchestrator can detect a site with Edge HA enabled appliances and it upgrade back up unit 1st and once its fully up, it then proceed with the primary unit. Traffic fails over to secondary unit and tunnels were up and it keeps the site alive.
Traditional HA doesn't have any special configuration. Its just 2 appliances with all WAN transport available to both of them. We just use VRRP or routing to make one active and the other one becomes standby.
