Bushcraft Camp with Watch Tower: Off Grid Shelter Build
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 сен 2024
- I build a bushcraft camp with lookout tower and ladder. This bushcraft super shelter has a large lean-to shelter, smaller shelter with moss roof, dog house, a watch tower with ladder that is accessible only from the inside of the camp. It also has a log store built on the outside. It has a kitchen/cooking area, plus a cooking crane made from sticks. The shelter also has a timber frame roof with retractable tarp overhead. The camp is fully enclosed with perimeter walls and has a small gate at the entrance. I built this supershelter mostly solo, but on some days my dad would help, as well as my small jack russell dog.
I started building this shelter with little knowledge and only a few cheap hand tools. As I developed my skillset I began to use different hand tools and learn various woodworking techniques and joinery to make the shelter stronger. I have spent many nights alone in the forest in this camp. I taught myself survival skills, developed bushcraft knowledge and learnt how to work with nature. Originally I wanted to build a log cabin style structure, and scribe the logs, notch them and build a much more stable structure. But sadly there was not enough large logs and I did not want to cut down loads of living trees to do it. At times I did use primitive technology, and even used natural cordage. However, I soon found that I had to replace this cordage often, so it made sense to use man-made materials to help extend the life of the building. I spent many memorable solo overnight camps in this shelter, and had many happy mermories building it. The shelter has since been dismantled, and all of the wood put towards building the thatch saxon house which I have recently been building on my channel. It's nice to know that the bushcraft camp, which was such a huge part of my channel, is continuing to live on through other shelters! Thanks to all who followed me on this adventure. I hope there will be many more that you can follow me on in the future! - Mike

This was just what I needed to get my bags packed up, Now I'm ready for tomorrows adventure :) This was by far one of my favourite videos, apart from your tarp shelters video, stay warm mike. all the best
@@hippyswift There's no dialogue here mate. Simple!
Love this type of videos! AWSOME!!
How much did the knockoff 550 paracord run incase someone wanted to follow suit and build a deerstand like this
Please reply I big fan but can't do it because no forest permition
This has literally inspired me so much, I've went from the start of corona, staying indoors, to now making a small shelter in the woods behind my house. Thank you for sharing your works of art from mother nature, to the world. Much love!
I love making dens but when I saw this vid it gave me so many ideas 💡
Corona 🥵
Bro that nothing I've made a stick striclub for me and my pal rocks theyre cool and tough
You are just a big kid making a tree fort in the woods!
AWESOME!
You can bring one thing to a deserted island what are you bringin?
Me: This guy
🤣🤣🤣🤣
The dogs
omg finally a channel that doesn't show every. little. detail. I'm 48 seconds in and the cabin walls are already up! In a lot of these kinds of videos, the guy would still be unpacking his backpack by this point. Like I don't need to see 40 different fluff shots of your campfire lol!
I was thinking exactly this... refreshing...
No talking. No music. Perfect. Subscribed!
Jejeje el cachorrito me encantó muy tierno y divertido 😊🐕🐶.
No talking just building. I had to adjust to that in the beginning of my experience on this channel. As I followed your dad & the cooking made me realize you guys were funny & serious about what you do. One of my favorite channels.
You remind me of a little kid at heart that doesn’t want to grow up. Not trying to pick on you but I admire your passion. When I was a little boy I spent a lot of time in the woods on my four wheeler making forts and hunting and just having fun. Now I’m in the office 60+ a week and those are just a distant memory. 👍🏼👌😉 enjoy all you can my friend. You are truly living life!
The idea of the dog watching the human carry sticks around all day is beautiful.
this is my favorite series in his channel! who else agrees?
Hatchet Survival yup
It is interesting

A 'Blast From The Past!' Your 'gazillion' newer fans NEEDED to see you and your dad do the tower and the base camp. And Jax was a cute puppy! Then, there is the famous 'Ghost Mask' bug protector. Great Times!
A man needs something to do...an activity...industry...to benefit himself and others. This fellow has done it with this project.
Soon machines will do all work and humanity will have a boring era. Just watch today’s kids with high technology, never been more bored. Let unite
Yes I'm actually twelve watching these for survival skills but I agree
While I miss your cinematic shots and "slow-mo" as well as the slow pace of your normal videos, it's awesome to see my favorite camp go up in under 30 min from start to end. Whenever I think of bushcraft camps, this is the first one in my mind every time. Also crazy to see how much you and Jax (or is it Jacks?) have grown and changed. Can't wait to see you and the kiddo working together. Keep it up!
The dog was my favorite part. I rate this video a 100/1
This is how I started with you and haven't even looked back. Great stuff always! You and your Dad are the greatest in my book.
It’s cool. But I mean it’s like forts we built when we were kids. It’s not a lasting shelter but it does bring back memories of childhood!
We didn't have the tools to do it nice back then. Now we don't have the time too
It's next to worthless as a shelter.
So, how long do you suppose it would last?
If we're being technical nothing is a lasting shelter no matter what your gonna have to do maintenance
I'm assuming the elder is your father. What a great mentor, teaching you his know-how. Now you can pass that knowledge on to the next generation. 💜
Absolutely I'm a woman and my dad had no sons. So he taught me camping and fishing in desert survival and now I am going to be teaching my grandsons this. Being a girl does not mean that you can't learn to do all of these things.
That little dog ♥️♥️♥️
This has inspired me so much that whenever I go up to the woods I build a small fort with my dad
You straight up just made like a WW1 fortified position just for fun. So entertaining. Could watch it for hours and hours.
I can assure you mine and my brothers Camp looked nothing like this palace you built~wish you had been around to help with our camp/what an adventure you created for you and all of us watching~thanks for a memory if long lost camping and back to nature😀☺
Came for the build, cried in joy at the puppy
Rip to the city kids who never experienced building an epic fort as a kid.
I remember as a kid in cub scouts we went camping in this mountain that had this flat forest area in it keep in mind this is a desert in winter and my pack 186 saw these other 2 and at about noon or 2 pm we had a “war” where we grabbed sticks that looked like guns in some way then through pine cones as grenades and I took this one dead tree stump that was maybe 5 feet tall but felt like 10 as a sniper tower as I watched 17 other kids in my pack “fight” at an area that was like 3 large Boulders. But yes rip to those kids that were not able to do that.
“rIp tO aLl tHe cIty kIds” I was raised in Phoenix and I’ll bet anything the fort my brothers and I had spent years building at our cabin is a supreme 😎
@@ethanswartz5161 okay, you want a cookie?
the only forts I made were with couch seats lol
I don't think it's rest in peace to them as much as it is we have to feel sad for them
The puppy is the cutest thing ever
By far the best Bushcraft video i've ever seen👍👍
I love these builds also. Tip for you guys: when building walls especially high ones where you stack logs horizontally up between poles.
About mid way up vertical poles tie some rope in the middle or higher on pole. Then put 2 or 3 horizontally poles in. Then tie the string to the next horizontal pole you put in then continue stacking poles on them.
This will use the weight of the poles on top of that to pull the middle of the vertical poles in for support.
6 People understand and like what you said ,me can't picture it .🤨
thanks good to know
@@fishfire_2999 You have two vertical poles. You have, say, 15 horizontal poles that will become a wall. As a wall, you want the poles to be nice and snug. The horizontal poles will push the vertical poles outward. You don't want that. So, you attach a rope like OP said. The vertical poles will be acting against the horizontal poles by pushing inward a bit. That'll keep the wall up a little longer.
@@grimstnzborithbrisingr7296 Building looks like so much fun ,cutting and debarking not so much ,I understand what you were describing now makes sense ,thanks for the reply 👍👍
you can explore new land
It felt like I was watching a lovely and heartfelt obituary/memorial service. Happily it was only for the bushcraft camp and not anybody. 🙏🏻👍🏻
Thanks for telling us about why you were able to get so many nice, straight pieces. As I was watching I thought to myself, "You couldn't build anything like that in these mountains. Nothing around here grows that straight."
Mike, I look at your every work with curiosity and admiration, respect for your skills, I've always dreamed of such a shelter in the woods. It's great that you have a Father who argues with you and devotes his time to you. Greetings from Poland
Right on. I built a couple of forts in the woods when I was a kid. I used pine straw as mortar between each branch. It worked, until a friend went out there and caught the place on fire. Anyway, good job, the dog is as cute as can be.
look at that puppy, your going to have your hands full with a new baby as well, good luck :)
this is VERY old footage from when he first started YT the bushcraft camp.
@@ericmartens2322 I kind of commented before watching the whole video lol, then seen the snow :D
OMG the dog is sooooooo cute!
Clever jib crane for hanging your cooking pots!
You make everything look easy
This is where I started watcing your channel. This camp is still my favourite.
Nice wall design and everything was made very well I’m just getting into this hobby thank you
If we were ever attacked by deranged toddlers that would have been the fort to hold up in. Lol that was the shelter that got my subscription. It gave it's life for a good cause. The Viking style house is way cool.
Really loved this series, been watching the episodes over the years, happy to see this summarized version
Great camp. The dog wanting to "help" was cute.
Galvanized or plated wire is wonderful for tying joints together. You can get the joints tight and secure with multiple turns and then twisting the ends together to lock it in place.
If you notice modern manufactured log buildings use staggered logs without notching. The corners will need fasteners or wire for stability however, but it sure saves a lot of work and time.
Imagine like a wolf or a bear coming inside while sleeping or a random person walking in
No no no don’t you see his rifle 😂😂😂😂
some drunk hobo walks in while hes sleeping.

Pretty much watched this whole series as they were posted but Awesome to see the whole build at once! Great footage I havent seen yet too!
When this is almost the only survival channel that is not fake I hope
This is seriously the coolest basecamp out of all the ones that I have seen. I have been working a lot on mine over on my channel. It isn't as elaborate as this one but it is a start!
Broke Boys Bushcraft
Being a Brit bushcrafter randomly chose a vid of yours, ‘heeeeeyyyy, whaassaap’really loud blew my ears out. I turned off on 2 seconds 😂
@@richplant2205 yeah, my older videos are trash. I'll admit that
The time involved outside of filming just to gather all the wood must've been extensive. Bravo on a beautiful channel that I'm just discovering.
Who’s that young looking feller at the beginning of this vid ???, We ain’t seen him for a while.
😜
You sound like Herbert from Family Guy.
Imagine stumbling upon this!!!
Great watching this, and as you see the sections unfold you think, "Oh yeah, I remember watching that episode!" One after the other. ;0)
En verdad qué alegría ver a personas tan talentosas. En verdad mis respetos y los admiro es un trabajo duro y cansado pero cuando ven el producto finalizado es un orgullo. Gracias por compartir.
This was on my recommend for some reason but for real this is sick

I'm sitting here enjoying my coffee in my Woodsman TA Outdoors mug, when I noticed you are over 1Million subbers‼️ Congratulations, mate! Thanks for the great content. Bc of you and your Dad, I'll be passing down skills to my nephews. We are building the overnight shelter in my backyard. Heaps of love from USA.
Many thanks for the support!
I admire how well-edited these videos are. No wasted time; very satisfying.
I have to ask, do you guys design blue prints for this amazing builds or do you guys just go with the flow as you go? It is impressive.
Love the dog too, he's so cute. I like Jack Russell's
This would be the ultimate survival game
Okay crown this man the bushcraft king.
Oh the doggo grew up with you.
I didn't notice that it is the same doggo until this video
Was enjoying the video, then the puppy showed up and i died inside how adorable
I have really bad Déjà vu right now ;)
Beets my bushcraft vids. Always amazing to get out into the wilderness for a good bushcraft build & camp. was good to see this footage again after so long, it feels like you did this years ago. or maybe you did haha!
all the best Mike.
If you make post burn the tips to harden them so they don't rot as fast when you put them in the ground.
That is fantastic living.
Man, that ain't no shelter, that's one. HELL of a fort, love your doggy, I think he had the most fun
After having watched this video I'm gonna sleep easier tonight

I noticed that u guys dont use too much tools other then what u have I like it
This is a rerun. This is the one where Gilligan keeps banging the Skipper's thumb with the back of the hatchet and drops a bunch of small logs on the Skipper's foot also. The Professor tries to fix the radio and the Howell's just lounge around.

I like watching these vids every once in a while. Just to check in on humans ability to survivor in the wild.
I have been thinking about making the old bushcraft camp as a tabletop miniature out of craft foam. Using all the different videos as reference.
