  • the Makita MLT100 is a decent saw in a terrible physical design. Bad fence, bad mitre, bad slidibg table. Mostly then people say no, dont buy it. It is a powerful saw for very little money. If you are prepared to work on the physical components you can save at least 50% on a dewalt or higher end. This video shows you one way to do this with v-slot profiles from the CNC world.

    I'd buy this saw now with all the poor reviews, if I had your skills. Thanks for sharing your work. God bless 👍🏾

    It is a good saw for the price, as you said it needs some small adjustments and upgrades. The most annoying thing is the loud bang at the start so I added a soft start and now it's great.

    I purchased the Makita MLT 100 N which has a smooth table top which is an improvement but the fence still needs to be upgraded.

      I didnt know about the N, going to check if the N surface fits the saw I have as a flat surface would be very useful. Thanks for the tip!

    With the upgrades/improvements it needs, the negative reviews everywhere, i wouldnt bother!

    Great work. I bought the same saw on special around 12 months ago. I built my fence from wood but your design looks much sturdier. I've been thinking that I may strip the silver paint off the table-top, fill the grooves with body filler, sand, and then repaint so the table is actually flat.

      Let me know how you get on...the table top is really annoying.

    Thank you very much for sharing, great video, many people are complaining products from China sucks and i agree cause quality of a product comes on the second or third place, first place is producing and make money.

    Wish I'd seen this before buying the saw... Oh well. One of the most annoying things is that the mitre track is completely non-standard, at 13mm wide. Now I'm looking for a bar that width which I can retrofit onto my Kreg after-market mitre guage. Did you manage to find one at the right size, or did you need to machine it? (I don't think I'm going to be able to machine one accurately enough)

    I bought that same saw, and I have problem, the blade is not parralel with slots for the miter gage. Its 1mm diffrent between front and the back off the blade. Is there any way to fix it or I should return it to seller? Thanks

    Thank you very much for sharing this. I bought one a year ago, and I've been having some buyer's remorse. I spent valuable time working on the fence when I should have been building my mother's kitchen cabinets. I also ordered an Incra 1000SE, only to discover that I can't use it. I've recently been thinking of looking into getting a Dewalt, or maybe a Makita 2705. Or even a Bosch 4100. Now, seeing what you've done with the sliding table, I have some hope that I can salvage the saw yet. I am also going to widen the miter slot to the left of the blade and install a regular size miter track in order to use my Incra 1000SE miter gauge. Any specs or a link to those brackets for the sliding table? Thank you.
    Mabuza.

      Widening the miter slot sounds interesting. In the end I bought a bunch of Makita slides - one advantage of this saw is spare parts are readily available. Some electrical insulation tape around them and they fit well.

    It sounds like it might be a good idea to pick up an old vintage table saw carcass and then fit this motor to it if possible.
    I saw this in one review/tear down and it just shocked me how bad it looked and how flimsy everything looked.
    Glad to know it can be upgraded at least.

    Thank you so much for this, I bought one last year and it was the biggest piece of shit I have ever purchased, wanted to throw it out and write to Makita HO for designing such a piece of shit, but at least I might be able to salvage a little! Thanks again and what a piece of shit

    Hi could you please tell me if your saw starts really aggressively upon pushing the green on button mine does? Is it all of them or just mine?
    Any feedback would be appreciated

      Yeah its a real jerk into action. I might look into a soft start add on for it.

    • @neilbarnwell
      @neilbarnwell 3 года назад

      That is just how it is, and is one of the things I dislike the most about it. However, there is a solution - you can add a soft-start module. Apparently the MLT100N already has one, but I'm going to follow this video to add one to mine: ruclips.net/video/4TMx_55Cjn4/видео.html

      As Im in Poland, my link might not help but do a search for Openbuilds or v-slot rail. Its an open design so you can even buy it on Bang good or Aliexpress.

    Good video , I have a DW 745 witch has a really good sliding bar but is too noisy for my home workshop (if it is activated, even when not riping, it's so loud that you need to wear ear protectors) , is this makita model loud or silent? thanks for sharing.

    • @chris_thornborrow
      @chris_thornborrow  4 года назад

      With a totally clean high quality blade its acceptable. Most of the time its loud.

    • @neilbarnwell
      @neilbarnwell 3 года назад

      Bloody loud in an enclosed space, with a loud "bang!" as it gets started. A soft-start module would help (I hear the MLT100N comes with one, assuming that's available where you are).

    Hi Chris. It seems that one has to be pretty handy to fix this as you have done. I wouldn’t know where to start as a newbie so I think I’ll go for a different model all together. I was about to buy one of these until I saw your vid. Nice one though. Will Subscribe now.

    Not gonna lie. Been eyeballing this saw as my first tablesaw, but i only get negative vibes from it. I adore the features of it, but if you can't even cut a square piece with it out of the box, it shouldn't exist.

    I boought new unit Makita MLT 100 and made upgrade in the amount of 20 dollars and it works well. Now i believe to the saying that it is “the writer who writes better and not the pencil”. Hehehehe hehehe heeheheeeehe

      I believe in "You can't work as good as the tools provided".... "A blunt tool will not cut". And if the pencil has not been sharpened.... it cannot write.

    i wanted to buy table saw and after seen all review disappointed with this model mlt100, why to make side fence not to the end!!! it is dangerous to life, if you get kickback and can be injured for life, it should be banned to make table saw's like this, did they save a lot of money for 20cm more aluminium?? it is stupid to pay 600eur and make all adjustments by self, now looking for model makita 2704 or dewalt or bosch gts10j or xc
