Chainsmoking since 1987/1988 is what did Geoff in. We saw the first sign of him not being able to hit the highest register on Queen of the Reich and Take Hold of the Flame as early as 1988, where as he was able to hit it with EASE up until 1987. It has only lowered more and more since then.

I've heard talk of Geoff already being a smoker in High School. It would make sense considering his vocals already changed slightly in '86.

Oh yeah, just check out Cologne 1988 on 'Take Hold of the Flame'. That A4 and then E5 is brutal on his throat. He's really pushing it there.
Queensrÿche Bootlegs Thank you for recommending the 1988 Cologne. I had not seen hat! You are right, despite being a great concert, we can already see Geoff suffering to hit and/or sustain high notes. He was still good by then though, nevertheless, those moments trying to hit/sustain the notes make me feel in agony.
Well well. One of the last times that Tate ever performed Queen of the Reich. Afterwards, the band would try to bring this song back in 2010 and 2011, but no. Tate told his bandmates "Fuck you, I don't ever want to play that stupid song again!" Glad that his ass was booted from the band last year.
Damn! Tate sounds really strong here. Have seen plenty of examples of him not so good before this...even back into the later 90's. This EP medley is pretty cool too. Never seen that before.
He clearly got lazy and stopped pushing his upper register after American soldier (09) By 2012 he dodged every high note He only started trying again in 2018 during the mindcrime anniversary tour
I still can't get over how awesome Tate sounds here. Maybe if they didn't tour so much, his voice would hold up better. I'd LOVE to get a bootleg of one of these shows!
Geoff still has an insane touring schedule on his own now, but he sounds great! The Queensrÿche fronted by Todd La Torre has a pretty light touring schedule, which definitely helps Todd out a lot
And he even nails the even higher one at the end of the solo. He sounded stellar throughout the whole performance. Perfoming all of rage for order, empire, plus some encores
The reality is GEOFF TATE VOCAL we're truly that hard! What he did in the beginning can't even be DUPLICATED by the master himself.Nobody can DUPLICATE what he did in the beginning.
Todd´s "Father" Geoff will always have the better power - he´s the original, Todd is only a copy of the original. Todd was doing good in crimson glory - sad he left
Agree Todd was the perfect fit for CG, however he didn't really leave 'em, as he was ready for them to begin recording a new album. As time went by he just couldn't wait for them to get their shit together. Luckily he met Wilton at Namm and the rest is history. Meanwhile CG went on a further hiatus as the guitarist got arrested on a drug charge. Sad but true.
Tate sounds fucking awesome! This was only a few years ago? Wow!
The King - GT
Honestly I like the roughness his high notes have here. Edgier than the 80s but stronger than the 2001 performances

***** To think this is 9 years ago, time flies!
He sounds better here than in 1991!
anolaf True that!
WHO'Z GOT THE BETR MOHAWK. THE DRUMMER OR GUITARIST 😃🤪😅👍😬🖖OHHH FUKN YEAHHHHH THIS IZ GREAT! 👀 MY COMEDY N YESHUA CHRIST VIDEO
Saw this tour and this was the best Tate with QR performance I had seen. He sounded great when he took care of himself.
My theory is that Geoff got too stressed out to sing properly. A voice doesn't go from this to shit in five years.
Maybe Geoff will sound good in a few years. But he's kind of tasteless now if you ask me.
It Can……….It Did ……….
Still sounded great in 2008 I’d say he lost it around 2011 but 2018-present he sounds pretty damn good
He clearly got lazy and stopped pushing his upper register after American soldier (09)

@@srs7593 2022 sounds great so u guessed right
This great band is missing that sound, that tone. Chris de Garmo.
Is this the last time Tate sang this song?
No. I watched him sing it this week and it was amazing.
this is great video i got to nibble mmmm light snacks Reikireigna fan for life
Scott mmmmm
Stone left the band, so their is a small outside chance for a full reunion.
WTF? Is this a young clone of Tate? He sounds damn good here. He sounds like shit now...or is he sandbagging?

He sounds great now. Saw them live yesterday. He nailed it, including the full version of QOTR as encore.

GEOFF'S TATE'S VOICE IN FULL VOICE IS STILL SUPERB!! LET HIM SING UNPLUGGED ANYTIME AND YOU WILL SEE MY POINT!

..he NAILED that E5!
simply beautiful
Yeah he sounds quite good. But he is kind of straining. His voice doesn't quite have that quality it used to but this is still awesome.
He’s had that strain since the 1988-1989 performances of this song

Todd let me introduce you to your father
wiltzer1 AIN'T THAT THE TRUTH!! GEOFF TATE'S VOCAL STYLE WILL NEVER BE DUPLICATED!
