This arrived in perfect timing just as I'm staring at a blank screen wondering what to write as my mind has also gone blank! Task paralysis big time here! Now I feel I can attempt something - thank you so much! ❤
Caren, I relate 100% to your first person's comment. I am scared of failure. I am scared of success. I find failure a learning element. If I succeed, how do I learn? Damned if I do, damned if I don't situation. Also, I was engrained with a 'failure the first time means you'll never ever succeed' from my former in-laws. That is a trauma situation. I try not to use that as a victimization situation, but the trauma alone is a burdening emotion.
I should clarify. After fully viewing the vid, without exposure to periodic error, I do not learn. I fully rely on 'stupidity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result'. I am an up-and-coming game dev, (with ADHD, blessed, as it bestows the creativity).
Please add to the list of paralysis triggers fear of new actions to grow a business will actually bring less freedom because your business is growing and you’ll have more work to do. I guess that’s a fear of success, but it gets more specific.
Excellent, nailed it for me, many thanks! 👍🏻 PS: I find watching your (and most other RUclipsr) videos at 1.5 x speed, offers a pace of delivery that allows me to stay fully concentrated on them. If I watch them at normal speed, my mind gets too much time to wander while I'm watching. Is that another typical ADD thing? Just wondering, thanks. 🙂
This video has helped me realise that I need to break down my tasks so much more. I have a huge project at work to create a handbook for new starters in my team, I’ve been telling my boss that it’s ‘an ever growing work in progress’ for the last 6 months when in reality I’ve done nothing more than brainstorm in a spider diagram and then add ‘create handbook’ on my master task list. In Monday I will block out an hour to break this down on my task list. Okay it will mean I’ve got another 30 tasks on there, but at least I will have some clarity on how to tick them off one by one…and there’s the dopamine! Thank you so much Caren, I always enjoy your content
Omg, it’s so nice to have you as a resource and to know that other people struggle with exactly the same things that I do. Trying to understand this myself or trying to explain this to people who don’t have this challenge can be so isolating. Thanks for taking the time. 💐
Awesome content! Especially as a fellow ADHD content creator. One thing that helps me survive task paralysis is making myself get up and do one small piece of the thing. I find once I start doing the small piece, the hyperfocus kicks in and I feel the energy to finish. May not work for everyone but I wanna share in case it could maybe help someone else
This was instantly helpful to switch my perspective. Trying to work on my photography biz and I have been focused a little more on what the freedoms it might provide and maybe get me out of full time day job into something else + photography. Once I started thinking what I am trying to solve for I could tell there was a a boost in motivation and direction. I have really been looking at decisions and if it is to bring a dopamine hit or not and now I will add looking at how I am look at the task or work ahead. Very very helpful.
You're a blessing! Shout-out to you!! I personally really like the biological/chemical aspect when you mentioned task paralysis. I haven't heard that before when people share advice about task or analysis paralysis.. Usually, it's all about anxiety and underlying issues, etc. Well, maybe that's the case, but the reward system is also so much important. Thank you!
I’m not an entrepreneur, but staring down a to do list that I’m not doing, and this video was very helpful. Do you have a video, or would you consider doing one, on how coaching works generally/how it can be helpful? Because at the end of the day, as Mel Robbins says, no one is coming. I have to be the one to do all the things. So how is it ultimately different than getting tips etc., from videos and such? I ask this not because I think you and others should not be paid for your work, but I am being encouraged to get coaching which is expensive and of course not covered by health insurance as other forms of counseling may be. Thank you for all very helpful info you provide on this channel.
I love your videos for the content, but I also love how you look, your style, your home, accent, style of speaking! Damn, I might be in love. ;-) Jokes apart, you have such a nice vibe. 🫶🏻
I don't even know why I'm paralysed anymore. I have about thirty projects/paths I could follow, but none stand out as exciting. I'm absolutely filled with self doubt and limiting beliefs, even if I could choose one. I'm beginning to think this is more linked to CPTSD than ADHD. At age 48 this life long struggle is really wearing me down because I'm desperate to change my job - it's killing my mind and body. Have you talked about this before - the link with CPTSD?
I have been building my business but have literally put it on hold because I have a company that reached out to me with the possibility of onboarding with them. It has been weeks of talking about it meanwhile my business goes untouched. I am justifying it because of the situation and cannot seem to get my head around the fact that there is no guarantee I will onboard with them. What do you suggest for the adher who justifies analysis paralysis as a reason for why they cannot move forward on their bigger goals? Do you have a video you have made on this that you could suggest?
I found this video really helpful. However, the way you're holding the microphone is a bit distracting and takes away from the message. Any chance you could go back to your previous recording setup?

Awesome! Glad it helped
I was about to write about that! Her timing is perfect! Thanks to her a looot.

very timely. Since I"m procrastinating right now.
I've literally been stuck for 2 days and had to take a sick leave because I couldn't work, this is perfect.

Is that true, or a limiting belief? If you are the entrepreneur, you can choose the pace of your work.
Personally, I struggle with this thought/fear all the time
i don't fear success , i fear failure ..or exactly , to fail publicly bc my mouth couldn t keep my goals to myself !
Excellent, nailed it for me, many thanks! 👍🏻

I do that too!!!! Lol
You’re not alone I do this too!

Such great advice on entrepreneurship 😊

I would love a series!
These always give me good ideas of ways of celebrating and sitting in the seasonal shifts.
Thank you, awesome video
Great tips!
Great advice. Thx

♥️ Pink Floyd ♥️ Life long struggle struggles with clutter and getting stuff done ✅

good video but how do you differentiate between fear of success and fear of failure
It's me, hi, I'll watch this later I swear😭
Reading comments I can see we were almost all procrastinating haha
Hi Caren. Do you take medication for your ADHD and if so which one
Yes, adderall
Thank you
Same.....
Love the T-shirt :D
I found this video really helpful. However, the way you're holding the microphone is a bit distracting and takes away from the message. Any chance you could go back to your previous recording setup?
Just listen, don’t look if it distracts you
i see only 720p option
This would be easier to absorb if there was a breath-catching pause occasionally. 😅
You can always pause the video yourself, and continue whenever you are ready. ;)
Yes, she speaks too fast without pause. it is hard to concentrate.
@@lukamimica7969 In the settings you can change the playback speed. Try 0.75x if the original is too fast for you.
