Mr. Emppu Vuorinen, ladies and gentlemen. He is a magnificent guitar player. Most people talk about Floor growling and they even think it's actually Marko doing it lol but not that many people talks about how great Emppu's riffs are
For me, one of the guitar greats, ahead of many who people bang on about.

Emppu is arguably one of the best guitarists in music, he is so understated and humble, it is easy to forget how good he is, consider how much mischievous antics he has pulled, can you thing on a single time since 1998 when he has missed, or made a mistake, I can't, he is so darned consistent. He purposely does nothing more than the song needs and stays understated, once on a while he lets the mask slip and shows his skill in a awe shucks manner.

Has anybody ever enjoyed playing their part in music more than Emppu? He's so electric that they can run the equipment directly off him! Not only is he flawless in his playing, he does it with the biggest smile and the most joy in his heart I've ever seen. And that makes the solo played in Dead Boy's Poem even more poignant, when he plays it with a seriousness that pulls your heart from your chest, then turns and walks away, having collected your soul. This song, Ghost River, Dark Chest of Wonders ... his riffs just set the whole song. Every genius in this band plays a very integral part of the whole in every song, and if any one of them was missing, it wouldn't be the masterpiece that each of them is. So much fun watching your reaction, Jeff! You truly appreciate everything that's going on, and you don't miss a single bit. that's what makes your reactions so very special, you're one of us with a better musical education! You teach us all.

Emppu's guitar riffs and solos are easily my favorites. I place this wonderful human to alongside my other favorite guitar players, such as Jeff Beck, Steve Vai and Nita strauss!!!

We always talk about Floor's growling, but also think about that deliberately off pitch, haunting siren call section. To go just slightly off pitch for effect, then to come back on pitch, then to go deliberately off pitch again - well it's the vocal equivalent of Kai's drumming.
I always get a kick out of watching Emppu soloing as he often has this look on his face that's like, "This is tough, I hope I don't screw it up." then he nails it of course. He usually finishes with a smirk at the crowd, "easy, peasy".

You hit the nail on the head brother.... a face melter for sure. What an amazing first 2 songs to open a concert with. Almost seems they're blowing their load at the beginning... how do you follow up after these 2 songs? Another 8 or 10 other songs that kick ass Just as much😳🤘

I loved your reaction to this killer song. This is such a driving beat and all the instrumentals... Empuu, Kai, Marko, Tuomas. Floor goes from those harsh growls on every chorus to that ethereal moan in the middle of the song... just amazing. This Wembley 2015 concert is another one of their several legendary performances. Don´t forget that middle section where many people have asked "where are we going now??" :) Yes, so progressive, unexpected and eerie. Floor showing her siren persona only to turn out to be a demon right after that. :)

Pity they didn't film Wembley this year but I'm expecting we'll get one of the Ziggo concerts out on DVD/BluRay next year.

The one who can hit an E flat 6 in her falsetto during Phantom of the Opera is also the one who can growl like a demon. From angel to badass in 0.5 seconds. I loved Tarja, but Floor is just different class altogether.
By the way, very few people actually spot that it's Floor doing the growling in the chorus... even though it's obviously Marco's vocal timbre in the melodic line. 👍👍👍
This song is the reason we're all happy Floor is a good person, instead of a politician that wants to attack the capitol. Because the history books would be massively different if she riled people in the wrong direction 😇

The song is basically Tuomas telling off all the internet trolls. Also written for Floor, from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album. This, and to a lesser extent Ghost River at Wacken, is all the growls you're going to get from her in Nightwish. She did more of that in her former band ReVamp. If you want to see that , try Disdain by ReVamp live at Grasspop 2010.
Song 3 and 4 at Wembley you have heard already at Wacken, Everdream and Storytime. 12,13,15 and 16 you've also heard. The rest of the 17 song set will be new to you.

Emppu rocks! Love the guy. For me, one of the most "musical" guitar players out there, and one of the very best.
Very underrated but I like to keep him in my comments so people can see how great he really is!
What an incredible one-two punch of a concert opening. First they throw a jab with "Shudder Before The Beautiful" and then with no time for the audience to recover, they deliver a knock-out with "Yours Is An Empty Hope." I would have loved to have been there
Girl Growlers Rule! Track #2, and so much more to come! It blows me away how Emppu unselfishly adds so much power in just the right moments. He's amazing. And, I could watch Kai play all day. In fact, there's a series of drum cam videos shot in Finland during this tour that leave me spellbound. You're about six tracks away from 'Weak Fantasy', and after you see it here, I'm thinking you'll like watching that drum cam video. Thanks, Jeff! Great stuff once again!

I think one thing that always gets overlooked is Marco’s bass playing. Maybe it’s because his singing is so good. Marco is a very melodic bass player. He doesn’t just stay on the beat but puts in very melodic fills. It’s very evident on this track and especially on “Sahara.” Another great number that has found its way back onto the set list.
Marco is a beast on the bass. I love hearing him play those solid grooves with such authority!

Epicness right there on that stage Jeff. To open with "Shudder Before the Beautiful" followed by this. All elements working together to deliver a smorgasbord of sound layers, transitions and energy. Every band member a master of their craft including all those who make Nightwish live possible 🙏👍😊♥️
If you keep smiling during these Emmpu will eventually have competition. Will be really good once you get to Poet and the Pendulum.

The riff is very reminiscent of " Toxic Waltz""by Exodus, which wouldnt suprise me considering ""Thrash Metal " definitely had an influence in his song writing .
Kai is a great drummer. He has played all kinds of music. He is from the same tree as Tuomas and Emppu, who believes more than anything that in a song you have to do what is right, not just showing off. It says a lot that after Kai joined Nightwish, Tuomas has asked him to do percussions for Auri album and to be a member of Tuomas' old black metal band Darkwoods My Betrothed, which was activated during the pandemic.

Just a freight Train of a song, this one. Riff is killer and Markos bass tone is so good.
A moment I enjoy is Toumas doing what I refer to as a small homage to the shower scene in Psycho. Those few squeaky hight pitched keyboard notes after the middle section, just when they return to the main riff. Such a cool little detail.
And I support all the comments about Emppu. What a legend.

No not sacrilege. I love Wacken not only because Floor was relatively new and nailed everything but also it was the first time many there would have seen and heard her live with the band and I think many couldn't believe how good she was. Then there is Buenos Aires 2018 where Floor breathes new life in to a number of Nightwish classics that pre-date her time with the band. Phenomenal. Then there is Wembley 2015. All superb performances that change places regularly in my top 3 🙏👍😊♥️
