I take a scrap piece if wood and use it for backing. wrap the profile around the square corner of the board and that solves you problem of it catching. I like your tips. keep up the good work.
Hey Sal, I used shluter edging around niche. The customer pick out all materials and now that it's up she has a better look and doesn't like it, because the shluter is but more whiter than tile. Is there any way to fix this without demo. Is able to be painted being it's in a shower?. What would you recommend
Hi Sal, which method do you prefer, Installing with the profile anchor legs inside the niche, or the anchor legs outside the niche on the wall? This video looks like you already set the wall tile up to the edge of the niche first and installing trim inside. Do you have a video on this?
Sal, are there any issues with using anodized aluminum trim in the shower? It’s a little too late to ask this question since we already installed it in our shower but I’m seeing a lot of negative comments about aluminum and pitting or corroding in the long haul.
Great video one thing I never see mentioned is, the tile u have around niche is it flush with inside, or do u leave it a grout line short, or when applying trim with thinset does that build it out. I guess what I’m saying where does the grout line come from
On the inside of the Metal L there is a leg to give you proper space for the tile, on the flat side of the trim I use a wedge between the metal and the tile to create that space.
wet saw with speed square works for me lay trim against speed square put on glasses less chance of stock jumping around never have cut this way why cause just one more piece of equip to lug around and plug in besides looks dangerous to me cheers either way has to be mitered
Thanks for the upload, I love installing profiles. Have you seen the LED channel profiles? They're from an Italian company. I haven't seen them in person yet but I'm dying to try them out they give a super modern look.
I don’t think miter corners makes a whole lot of difference plus it takes a cop saw for perfect cuts and it takes that much longer to do, and precision…
Sal!, My friend I'm a huge fan of your work. I've followed you for a long time. If I can ask a question, and hopefully not too personal, can I ask how old you are now?. And at what age did you begin your life with tiling? God bless, many thanks 👍
@@watchjimstube I started tile about 6 months ago I'm 31. The guy thats training me started when he was 30 as well and now 5 years later he's making 10k a month

When cutting on the wetsaw set the pieces so the rotation of the blade to cut toward the back, that way the slag will go toward the part behind the tile. Use a diamond file to clean up the edge.
I don’t think my contractor installed it correctly the metal trim doesn’t line up with the tile but sticks out a bit and neither do the corners which are sharp to touch. I feel like you can cut yourself if you aren’t careful.
The principle of the tiling of the inside neich is wrong. You should tile the bottom and top first and then the two sides. The back tile should sit on top of the ledge not behind it. The same principle applies to steps and Windows. This way the water will not sit on the joint.
It was there and he said I could for a couple of cuts I needed, he was about to change the blade and said he would wait till I was done. Just saved me setting up my own chop saw.

The god father of tile making it look simple and easy!
😊👍
Here is a tip. Cut the leg with some snip to get it out of the way. That's the part that the blade cacthes and mangles. Wear some glasses as well.
The mitered cuts look much better. Great tips Sal.
I think so too!
Wow Sal I was looking for this video with your explanation cuz you’re the tile master 💕
Glad it was helpful!
Great video and to the point
Setting the trim on a scrap of wood when cutting will eliminate the trim from bending or kicking up on you. Especially if you have to trim a hair off.
Good tip.
Great idea! Thanks ✌🏻
Yes I use Door stop as that inset piece of wood in the metal. When I cut my 45 or 90 on the miter saw. I carry 2 ft lengths in my Tile supply bins.
I do this also. The teeth grab this stuff all the time.
You are truly an angel! These videos are so helpful!
Glad you like them!
I'm on this project today! I was going with the rounded bullnose, but I think i'' go for the L instead.
I used the Rondack in my shower.
Hey Sal, can you use a shluter niche with durrock? If so how would I water proof it being two different products

do you caulk the tiny seam between the mitered pieces or just leave it?
Hi Sal, nice video thank you. DO you think aluminium is ok for showers ? Inox is not more suitable ? Thank you
Use the aluminum all the time, have not had any call backs.
@@SalDiBlasi thank you
Love all your videos man🔥🔥🤝 do you somehow file the rough edges? If yea what do you use so metal sits perfect like this?
I have the same question!

Sal: Can you please tell me which profile trim you are using here? I'd like to trim our shower niche like this.

@@SalDiBlasi Thank you! I forgot to ask...Should I use 3/8" or 5/16" trim with 5/16" porcelain tiles? 3/8" is readily available.
Sal! Thank you!
Any time!
I like Schluter elbows
👍👍😉
i use a grinder with the schluter bored . it keeps the blade clean and cut beautful try it some time
just duble up a cuple of pea e of scrap 1/2 bored and thinset it to gether
I use a 7 1/4” chip saw for my cuts. Any suggestion for best non ferrous blade? Tooth count? Brand?

Sal DiBlasi awesome thank you for all the shared knowledge.
Water will go in thru the miter cuts since it won’t hold grout or silicone
Nice work, can you please let me know what kind of blade you used for the cuts.
This one, it is expensive, but lasts a very long time and gives clean fast cuts amzn.to/3egqSHt

Quality takes time and you should get paid for your time to do the quality work.

Not at all, start when it makes sense.

Is there anyway to make exposed outside corners not so sharp?
Use the schluter jewelry, inside and outside corners.
Hi Sal. Did I hear you say these can be cut on the wet saw?
they can ,but for a clean miter you need a chop saw.

Since this is not a window or a step, but a watertight shower, I will just ignore what you say.
why u using another person tool

Sorry to be critical but that's a power miter saw not a chop saw.
