Super informative as always Steve! Excellent demo
Thank you for making it possible bro!
Steve
Thank you for making an excellent video with classic rock (crunch ) tones to a real cab and direct. I have Friedman pedals front ending a Blackstar HT 50 Studio MKII , and this may be worth a try.
Got one today...this thing is AWESOME!
I feel like it’s the perfect mix of digital and analog!
Awesome review thanks for your efforts ❤
Great video dude ❤
Thank ya bro
I ran a line of Strymons (with Iridium) into a stereo poweramp into 212s.
I sold the Iridium, put the Amped 3 behind the drives and mod/del/verb in Amped 3's fx loop. so far loving this setup.
Hi Steve just got one of these on a clearance price, gigged it last night really good paired it with an HX stomp for fx.
Sounds great Steve. I use the amped 1 live and its been a game changer for me. It does take a while to dial in cab rig, especially for non techy guys like me but i think that's like any digital product, albeit simpler with this. All the right sounds are in there. Its a great solution and no amp to carry!
Absolutely! I have one as well and love it. Once its dialed in, you're done
I've watched a lot of your hx stuff, and today I was in a music store with the reps from Blackstar. Man, it sounded great. I ended up buying the stomp xl, but when I got it home it was clearly a customer return, so it's going back for now.
Oh man thanks so much for watching the videos! Sorry to hear about the stomp being used... hope you got it all sorted
I am contemplating hooking up a Stomp XL to the Amped 3. Stomp being for fx only. would make a brilliant combo.
More GAS… I’m screwed!😢 This thing is awesome 😎
Man, this thing is awesome! With tue built in OD, boost, and reverb, I’d only need a chorus and delay, which the Amped 3 can power. This cuts down on needing a bunch of external gear!
Absolutely! Its an awesome amp tone solution
Pleeeaaassseeee do some midi stuff!! I’m setting my amped 3 up with an HX Stomp and I’m hoping to control both with my Boss Es-5. My goal is to accomplish a W/D/W setup using both of these units while still being able to use a live cab. I’d love to know how to do all the channel changing and effects changes using a midi method. Love the content and thank you!
Sweet!!!
Thanks bro!
Great demo Steve! Though I'm far from being a user of effects and pedals yet - still have to learn the guitar LOL. But it seems to me, that this unit also is a nice starter unit :)
Thanks Kenny! This could take you all the way to pro level
One thing that would make this the perfect amp is having the analog controls replaced with rotary encoders+LEDs that reflect the exact settings of every patch being recalled. If Blackstar ever manages to do something like this I'll be definitely buying. Thanks for the demo tho.
that is a cool idea!
Just got these in at the shop I work at. We got the 1, 2 and 3. Ran all of them all through a mesa 1x12 cab (Didn't really like it out of any of our Blackstar cabs, sadly). HOLY SHIT! This thing is absolutely insane. I'm definitely buying one. At $600 this thing REALLY is an amp killer.
Didn't know about the software, that's pretty cool. I'll have to compare that to Neural DSP's software.
Nice!! Mesa cabs are great for a reason
Well it’s not really £600 if you consider the mesa cab . I mean it’s more like £1200 , but I guess the benefit is it weighs a hell of a lot less than a traditional amp
Great demo. However, the Victory V4 amp series also has a 9v out to power separate pedals. And it's tube preamp powered, with direct IR out via XLR
Very cool and good to know!
I have the Amped 1, which is awesome too, I was surprised Blackstar released Amped 2 and 3 so close together. I don't actually need the options that 2 and 3 offer but Blackstar have absolutely nailed it with these new pedals!
P.S. if anyone wants to send me an Amped 3 for me to compare then feel free! 😄😃.
Great informative video as ever Steve, thanks.
Thanks Paul! I do feel the same. The amped 1 is def my favorite being that I use mostly modeling gear, but this one kills for amp tones!
@@SteveSterlacci yeah, I use my Helix LT for our covers band but the Amped 1 with our Blues band, it sits neatly on my pedal board and gives just enough crunch. I play rhythm guitar in the band so I don't need lots of high gain and use a Blues overdrive in the effects loop to give that dirty gritty Blues sound. Cheers Steve, keep the demos coming!
I loved my Amped 1 - so I decided to try the Amped 2. I didn't really like it. Something weird happens when you engage the effects that takes away from the overall glory of the amp sounds. I even like the reverb better on my Amped 1. I think that's the key honestly. I think they've created something that's awesome and nails the core amp tones - so I'd combine that with your own external effects. I tried my Amped 1 with my HX Effects and it's killer. So - for that reason I'm going to try the Amped 3 - because it focuses on core amp tones as well. I'm betting that the 1 and 3 are the best so far. The 2 incorporates effects which Blackstar just aren't as good at or at mixing so far - sadly.
I’ve seen people get some great sounds from the amped 2, but the amped 3 blows my mind. I think it depends on what type of tone guy you are? I feel like the amped 2 I found myself just playing around with it.
BluGuitar Amp1 with HX Stomp or Helix Effects in the Loop and a Nordland ODR in front of the Amp. - All you need. 🥰🤟
Would love to try the Blug!
I'd be curious which is louder or sounds better at high volume. I know the BluGuitar Amp1 does use a type of tube and uses it in the power section - which is unusual for these type of pedals. Most manufacturers of them put the tubes if they have them in the preamp section. For that reason - I'd expect the BluGuitar Amp1 to be louder - and to sound great and not harsh at higher volumes - but I haven't tested it.
I just wrote to Blug since the Amp X looks so cool. They said there wouldn't be a computer editor, so I'm out for that product.
The room settings in Cab Rig are not related to the reverb. they are part of the emulated out, it is effectively altering the size of the room that the emulated cab is mic'd up in for the emulated room mic. The Reverb is separate to cab rig. Cab rig comes after the poweramp, the Reverb is before the poweramp.
ah that makes sense. I was using the power amp into a cab with it for most of my exploration. Thanks!
I’m thinking of getting an amped 1 and boss gx 100 pedal as my whole live setup.
Thatd be great!
This with a small multi effects like stomp would be great. At one point there's a lot of hiss from the cab, seems like if nothing else you might need a gate for the dirt channels.
Edit: in the software, the high roll off I think is necessary. That's a good inclusion!
Thanks Scott!
@@SteveSterlacci BTW, got one and it outputs enough power for the Stomp, even though they only advertise 500mA.
@@Scott__C awesome to hear!!! Thanks for adding
This is my new favorite piece of gear. Check reverb, I’m selling gear soon!
Great video Steve. I know you are sorting out your new touring rig for Europe, is this a possibly contender? It seems to sound great, is a simple and straightforward solution. Thanks for any thoughts on that topic. Cheers.
Hey Chris! This would definitely contend. I think I would prefer the Amped 1 for my style of music on the road though. Plus, it has the setting that is made for modelers
Looks nice, sounds nice but for less money you can but a Katana 100 and GAFC EX control pedal that will give sounds that are equally awesome and every effect you could possibly need all in one package. (I've put fender grill cloth on mine along with chrome corner pieces and a leather handle so people think it's a boutique amp). Good demo and nice product Blackstar but for the money you can get more elsewhere.
Plenty of options for all applications for sure
Sorry dude....but the Katana doesn't sound nearly as good as the Amped 3. I know because I have both. The Katana is fine when you don't have anything to compare it to. Up against the Amped 3, the Katana sounds like what it is....a solid state amp....the Amped 3 sounds like a tube amp.
Hi, great demo! Didn't know your channel before today, I really like your style.
That's one thing I cannot fully understand about this pedal, reading lots of comments here on youtube and on forums.
Is it possible to modify the cab (with the software) and upload them with clean, crunch and od preset into the pedal? Or different cabs/presets can only be used when the pedal is connected to a pc?
Thank you!
I'm curious what you think about it when it's turned up though. I notice a lot of reviewers run these about 20w - but what if you run 100w and really crank it up?
Is it like a tube amp in the sense that more volume just makes it sound better and react better - or does it do that digital thing where it just sounds spikey and harsh?
Does it fatigue your ears at louder volumes faster than a tube amp? I've often found this the case with digital also.
Do you think it's as loud as your tube amps? I would think that 100w tube would be considerably louder than 100w solid.
Hope this helps but I've used the Amped 1 since launch for live work. It is very loud, more than you would need, but yes there is a slightly different response at 100w. I mainly go direct, but when I've gone straight to a cab I've always used the 100w setting. Plenty of scope on the master volume and it sounds like a good power amp should when being pushed.
I think It has a Analog-Digital-Analog conversion in the chain. AMP1 from Bluguitar has all analog...
Would love to try the blug. I dont get to bent out of shape over ADA as long as its not noticeable
It sounds great but what about at gig level? My other issue is that I run a Helix floor and I'm hooked on it but the amp sounds from the Blackstar are incredible. I know you run Fractal, Helix and some others so I'm curious if you think you could tour with it and not miss the other modelers. Great video Steve.
I have same question. How will this 100W cut thru over a drummer? Is there enough headroom or end up like a Katana? Thx
Thanks Brian! I have not gigged it yet... but I am sure it'd be great. It'll be highly dependent on the cabs
Hi, thanks for Demo, it's possible to midi recall all the presets inside "Architect - Local Patches"??
I do believe that is the case, but I am not sure since I havent dove into the midi capabilities
Thank you for this review. Help`s me a lot, so maybe i order one to test it out by myself.
At the moment i play with a Laney IRT 60H, also with 3 Channels. But maybe for a second Band and a portable solution i sell it and switch to a Pedal.
Clean, Crunch, Overdrive and Reverb are also on the Laney and (till now) enough for our Music. A Pedal Board, Tuner, maybe 1-2 other Pedals and the whole setup fit`s in a Bag.
Did you honestly think this Pedal can replace a tube amp?
I have been using direct to PA solutions since 2017, so I am fully on board..havent taken any of the tube amps behind me to a gig in years. I'll never go back either 😅
@@SteveSterlacci Thank you. Which on board setup did you use?
@@matzomachtmucke6104 i use the Helix for my all in one direct solutions
can this be paired with a helix? maybe assign midi via helix to change the blackstar settings for different snapshots?
Absolutely ! That would be killer. Throw this in a loop or vice versa and go nuts
hey man question , does this have a noisegate ?
How different does this feel to a digital solution like a Helix or a Tone X? This is cool if you can run a cab on stage!
It feels great. I think at this point the feel of everything is pretty spot on. It would be great to just bring this to a gig and need nothing else!
I own a line 6 pod go but I’ve been diving into the amped 3. Do you think it’s worth the Change? Or should I stay with the line 6
Depends if you're happy with it or not. Why change if it aint broke?
It seems like Amped 2 just came out, idk, maybe I just thought it did.
I think 2 months ago or so
how do you plug into 2-12 marshall stereo cab split cable ?
I honestly don't know. I am lucky to be allowed 1 cab on stage lol
Does the master volume affect the line out?
Yes
I HATE shared EQs!
Can you power a cab and run a cab sim at the same time?
yep! I cover that towards the end before I do the DI sound demo
How does it sound through headphones?
Amazing!
No noisegate? Sounds like it needs one. I know, just buy one and put it in the loop...
Could have been my lack of muting skills!
@@SteveSterlacci awww, nah - great playing from you. Your humbleness just earned a subscription, though.
Thanks so much! Means a lot. I try to keep it real here and understand I ain't perfect! I do like it to be a community effort and engage with all comments I can get to
I have this as my main amp now. I agree with you. I put a noise gate in the loop. Note this effects loop definitely raises the noise floor a bit. I added a separate Cioks power supply for anything in the effects loop and snipped the ground on the SEND cable from the effects loop. Reduced risk of ground-hum down to almost nothing.
@@christopherbyrd4808what’s funny is that I run a noise gate thru my Blackstar HT 50 head to tame the distortion channel. This floor format seems to be very similar to the head layout w all the features but on the floor and compact… effing genius🤘🏾
There are so many of these types of “amp solutions” that the market is flooded.
Its nice to have the luxury of being picky!
" Yr gonna need a bigger boat "
Good. That’s how innovation happens. 🤦♂️
Why the sound is always compressed, even when in clean mode?
Not sure what you're hearing but there is no compression added
Irs sounds narrow. And spikey. To much bark for me. I WILL KEEP MY TUBE AMPS.
ok boomer
