Traditional Joropo, lyrics by Alfonso Nino - Pajarillo
All day long, horsemen ride across the great plains between Colombia and Venezuela, guarding their herds. To entertain themselves during the long evenings, they invented their own, rhythmic music of African, Andalusian, Indian and diverse other influences. It is also characterised by the trio of llanera harp, cuatro and maracas, accompanying the songs. The singers improvise with great verve, recounting the events of the day, or describing the beauty of the Llanos, the plains. This music is called Joropo llanero: wild rhythms that mix duple and triple time in the manner of Spanish baroque Fandangos. There are also slower and more sentimental pieces: waltzes, tonadas, pasajes of remarkable depth.
The Trio de la Plaine recreates this atmosphere! Various rhythms will lead you on a journey, from the joropo to the bambuco. The cuatro accompanies the crystalline sounds of the arpa llanera (“harp of the plain”), interspersed with piquant maracas, blended with the warm voice of Consuelo Uribe and the rhythmic accents of her cello. Immerse yourselves in the richness, humanity and depth of this Latin American music!
