  • This is a hack that anyone with half decent soldering skills should be able to do. To make this you take a check sound recording module and you circuit bend it until you find a bunch of sounds you like. This idea come from who has done some amazing circuit bending projects. Look him up in the below link: dogenigt.blogsp...
Also, if you would like to make one yourself, I have posted instructions in Instructables.com - link is here:

The controls work both ways: you can modify the playback speed AND you can modify the max recording time, however, "longer recording time = more low-fi quality".

    This is great, thank you.
I just grabbed a couple. Now to wait for them to arrive while I work out how to control the pitch with a casio keyboard. I forsee much resistor swapping in my future. I think If I hook my multimeter up and make a note of what resistance I'm getting on the potentiometer with various pitches by using a pedal tuner I should be able to get a rough idea of what resistance I need for each note. I'm trying to DIY something like an 80s SK1 type sampler.

Sounds you have a plan. You should check out my other build where I add a echo and reverb module as well. Give you a whole lot more to play around with

@@lonesoulsurfer Ha. That was the first of your videos I saw. I'm waiting on the reverb boards too. :)

That's really nice project! I want to make one by myself, but I have few questions. On schema at instructables website there is 2 distortion buttons. At the end product you have 3 buttons (rec, distortion and green one that you didn't use on video). So, for what purpose is this green button? And which one button from schema you used for distortion button?

So the red button is for record, the green is to play the sound and the black is to distort. The larger white button is to restart the sound.

I think I remember reading somewhere that you set it for higher quality, but with shorter recording time. And that these chips can be stacked for longer recording time. Does that mean you could stack lots of them to get higher quality recordings and more recording time? Also if someone were to get carried away with it, an analog microcontroller, etc? It's an appealing technology for recording audio and if i'm not mistaken, could potentially be more HiFi since it's actual voltage values instead of just 0/1? And it boast 100 years storage.
Why didn't this expand beyond answer machine, audio message birthday cards, singing fish, etc, if it is in fact technically possible to make it Hifi?
    Choice video! Thanks.
