Now THATS how you write a musical !!!!!!
    Helen is an angel.
The arrangements are superb, and the the full orchestra….pure heaven !
Now if some brave soul would tackle the "book" .
Is there anybody out there, YOU HAVE TO BE THERE !!!

David Miller I have given it all that can muster to translate as well as I can. Here it is.
      My Astrakhan:
All is calm, all is well
You were carried across the sea
In mother’s warmth on your journey of a thousand miles
Boundless safety was what was given to you
Until you quite suddenly were thrown
      Into this perilous, unknown world
One day you should ask your mother
Why it happened, the reasons why I was forced to leave?
      Does that place still exist
      that My Astrakhan:
All is calm, all is good
You were carried across the sea
With mother’s warmth on your journey of a thousand miles
Limitless safety was what was given to you
Until you quite suddenly were thrown
      Into this perilous, unknown world
One day you should ask your mother
Why it happened, the reasons for my leave
      Is it still there?
The place that was once your home, you ask
All the time, that my heart may beat
Does it still exist? Shall forever remain
      Beyond this New World
That witnessed your birth, my friend
There the apples are blooming, still
      Beyond a vast sea
      There stands my Astrakhan
Yeah, at one point you should ask your mother
Why it happened, the reasons for my leave
Does it still exist, that place
That was once your home, you ask
All the time awarded, that my heart may beat
Does it still exist? Should forever remain
      Beyond this New World
That witnessed your birth, my friend
There the apples are in bloom, still
      Beyond a vast sea
      There stands my Astrakhan
      You have to be there:
      God, you banished me
From my native land I was forced to leave
Here I am a fugitive and a stranger
A destiny I have now succumbed to
But you took my baby and now your stealing my man
I can no longer find any meaning
What are your motives? What should I believe?
That swindling thought, an open abyss before me
All that I am riots and wants to tell you no
The question has been brought to light
But my soul trembles the truth
That you’re non-existent, though I did believe in you
Who would help me to persist my life out here?
Who would give me the strength needed?
Who would console me? Being so tiny on earth
If you would not exist, then, what would I do?
No, you have to exist, you just have to!
I live my life through you
Without you I am but a wreck on a vast and stormy sea
You have to exist, you have to! Then, how can you abandon me?
I would disintegrate, I would be nothing if you were non-existent
Never before have I spoken or thought about you
That little word which scares and torments me so
The word is if, if I have prayed all in vain
If you’re non-existent, then what would I do?
Who would feel my remorse and then forgive?
The inner peace, yeah, who would offer me that?
Who would embrace me when I have died?
If you were non-existent, who would care for me then?
No, you have to exist, you just have to!
I live my life through you
Without you I am but a wreck on a vast and stormy sea
You have to exist, you have to! Then, how can you abandon me?
I would disintegrate, I would be nothing if you were non-existent
      used to be your home
The place that was once your home, you ask
All the time that my heart may beat
Does it still exist? Shall forever remain

astrakan means Apple tree in English.

    • @evaharrison1733
      @evaharrison1733 2 года назад

@@enantiodromia not strictly, its a type of apple tree found in Sweden. There's other types of course, but Astrakan refers to the Apple tree from which (in the Musical) grows back home, and from which she's requested seeds via post.
It's named after said city in Russia.

In addition, she really knows how to sing. In an interview she said that due to the strain on her video of so many performances she actually had to develop a new singing technique for Kristina.

I’m so happy to find this!! I first fell in love with this musical in 1999 and have been dying for it to come to the US and play widely. However, I do prefer the Swedish version over the English. Is this musical available on DVD anywhere or is the rest of this performance available? Us American fans are just out of luck and may never get to see this amazing musical :(

What's the first song supposed to be? I know it as "Summer Rose" (from the Carnegie Hall English CD), but I thought it was to her first child born in America. She sings this to Karl Oskar?!

GillyWhitfootHaysend It's still to her new born in America. Here she sings about an apple variety called. 'Astrakan '. I guess it was too hard to have a baby on stage, but I understand you are asking, I'm doing so myself 😂

felpin Helen often keeps very still. Arms rarely move or gestures. Of course she doesn't need movement with all the passion that she commands on her face. Gad.!
