No awards for acting? The actor who played Chris did a hell of a job throughout, but especially in the scene where he is hypnotized by Rose's mother. The woman who played Georgina did too (especially in the scene where she apologizes to Chris and you can see both her personalities in conflict), but her role was probably too small.

And all that because Jesse Owens beat the grandfather in a race. Some might have considered it an honour to have raced with him at all. And when you read about the olympics and how the German athlete Luz Long was the first to congratulate Owens and how they ran a victory lap together and how Long even gave him some advice on to where to start the long jump after Owens messed the first two starts up and how they even wrote to each other a few times before Long was killed in Italy during WW2, the grandfather seems especially small, sulky and petty.

I come from a very mixed family.
I'm white, but my grandfather is black, my aunt is black, my cousin is black.
One of my cousins is jewish, one of my uncle's is Mexican.
Again, I'm white. This movie made me so uncomfortable, because I have heard a ton of this casual racism shit, and people say a lot of this stuff to me just because I'm white and they assume I'm on their level.
This movie is amazing. Holy fuck

I’ve watched alot of reactions to this but with you being black too you are the only one who noticed the difference in the way Walter, Andre, and Georgina interacted as far as culturally. After I watched it a few times I realized I missed that. they didn’t know any of our cultural cues such as Andres handshake to the fist bump or the fact that Georgina didn’t know what “snitch” was and didn’t get it until she said tattle tale. Because they were no longer black inside and they didn’t know the proper responses. Such small details but very important. It truly shows how many layers this movie has. Your reaction was also so raw crying and all, as another bw i genuinely felt it.

If you haven't seen Jordan Peele's other movie, US, you should definitely check that out. And now that you know what was really going on in this, if you watch it again, it's like a totally different movie and you'll understand things so differently. That's the genius of Jordan Peele. He gives lots of imagery and so many bread crumbs, you'll always see more each time. Us is the same. It's equally good. I love Jordan Peele and hope he's making a lot more movies like these. He's said all of his movies will be like Marvel, where they all exist in the same world, which is really cool. He's great at taking societal issues and turning them into a really incredible, original horror movie. There's lots of historical and real world references in his movies too, which makes them that much more incredible. Love you India 💓

One reason I like this movie is that it is like movies from years ago. There were no silly one-liners that completely ruin the tension: no comic relief, and especially nothing over the top like a Jar Jar Binks, or as in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, or Thor 3.
Slowly, tension and suspense build up. The movie takes its time developing the story, slowly, patiently, and progressively. Every now and then you wonder, "Well, that was a bit odd. I wonder what that means?", and you get drug slowly deeper and deeper into story. When the full details are finally revealed, it is like, "Oh shit! Now I get it. But this is horrible for him". Then there is a struggle that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Wonderful.
And on top of all that, the acting is amazing. The hypnosis scene, where Chris is hypnotized by Rose's mother. The scene where Georgina apologizes to Chris, and you see both personalities in conflict. And Rose being believable in loving Chris, and then being believable as exactly the opposite.

  • @agenttheater5
    @agenttheater5 2 года назад +2

I had a plan for that end before I remembered Chris needs to see a doctor about his hand being stabbed.
Originally my plan was that they just keep driving not even stopping for a toilet break till they get back, Chris goes up the backstairs while Rod starts cleaning the car for blood stains, Christ puts his clothes and few other things into the wash to get rid of the blood, takes a long shower and then he and Rod clean the bathroom and the apartment (nothing to thorough, just enough to clean up any other bloodstains and to make it look like the whole apartment had just had light cleaning so that it won't look spotless but won't look like only one room or one part of the apartment got cleaned). First thing in the morning, Chris calls and makes an appointment with a local therapist, says he had a weird weekend with his girlfriend, using only vague details, mention some of the other things starting with the deer being hit and how it started him thinking about his mother and how he still feels guilty about it, try to get an appointment as soon as possible, maybe even that day. If the police come, say that he had felt out of touch that weekend because of the accident (and if he gets an appointment in with a. therapist then they'll have a testimony saying that he was in an emotional state and in need of therapy so it'll make his story more believable), and that he wanted to go home so he left that night, but that he did think that Walt was acting a little strange - yes that means hanging Walt out to dry but the authorities might find it more believable that an african-american gardener went crazy and burned down a house and killed a lot of people than the truth that a respectable caucasian brain surgeon was doing illegal brain transplants, and the point is to keep Chris safe and not get arrested, plus unfortunately any proof of it would've been destroyed sin the fire. Thankfully it's unlikely they'll be able to continue what they were doing since it's not like anyone can be a brain surgeon, but unfortunately the other members of that cult will likely be cautious about what they say and do afterwards. Then, once things have died down a bit and the cult members have started to relax and hopefully Chris isn't in jail, he or Rod make an anonymous phone call to the police about Andre and who he's living with now and recommend that 'Logan' be brought in for questioning, and then maybe (having gone to therapy for months by now), Chris starts talking about what happened. The idea then being trying to bring the truth to light and hopefully clearing Walt's name, even though the police are likely to get most of the credit sadly.
It was never a perfect plan I know, but it might have worked, but then I realised I'd forgotten about Chris's hand and that he needs to get it stitched up quickly and that the police might find his blood on the street and in the car as well.

20:57 Rod could've done a _much_ better job, I think, articulating the situation with _these_ people. I mean he's with the TSA. That's a law enforcement agency. That says to me that he probably knows about this thing called a welfare check. You contact _any_ law-enforcement agency in the US (as well as several _other_ countries) and tell 'em you're concerned about someone in their jurisdiction, and if you have an address, they will send an officer to _check_ on them for you. They will conduct a _welfare_ check. All this paranoid, conspiracy-theory drama is completely unnecessary.
Now, granted, there _is_ a conspiracy going on, but _not_ the one he thinks because he went beyond his _evidence._

The Rose "key" scene still works IMO. At that point we still think it's only hypnotism they are using to control people, so you are desperately clinging to the hope that she is being controlled unwillingly by her family. Because only a psychopath could fake that kind of loving facade.

@@McBackstabber Understandable and fair enough. I guess my view of humanity is more grim. I was suspicious of Rose from the minute the movie started, but I also knew I was watching THAT kind of movie. Got more suspicious at the traffic stop scene honestly, even though that was supposed to be evidence of her protective nature. I just didn’t buy it. I actually almost got back on board with her when they were sitting on the bench right before she agreed to leave, but as soon as Chris saw the pictures I was completely out of “camp Rose”. The actress did a GREAT job of turning her demeanor around with the keys, it just was too late for me personally.

Like, the twist is so predominant throughout the majority the movie - I remember trying to describe it to ppl just as "white girl takes her black bf to meet her family and things happen" since it's so important on a first watch to initially side with his gf and family before things start to slowly unravel. Esp with that deer car crash scene where you root for her for sticking up for him.

10:32 Once, when I was just on the verge of waking up, I had been dreaming, and I don't remember most of the dream, but I remember it involved running. Running and jumping. And in the dream, I got to the edge of something, stepped off, and was on my way to the ground. My feet shot down to catch the ground, and just as they hit the ground, I woke up.
Now I don't remember _what_ woke me up, but I remember, I shot my feet out to catch the ground _in real life._ Let me tell you, that was weird.

I thought it was normal to stay awake so much between work and responsibilities at home that anxiety and lack of sleep makes you imagine things as you are in-between being conscience and asleep...Always thought that state of panic was normal.... 0:57 Well, I mean, right off the bat, you can glean that this guy's in an unfamiliar cul-de-sac, by himself, at night. So you _know_ he's lost. I don't know why we started laying out residential neighborhoods in cul-de-sacs instead of keeping them in nice, straight, easily navigated grids. It's like we _wanted_ people wandering in and getting _lost._

5:12 "By the way, I would've voted for Obama for a third term if I could."
First, I think it's interesting that Mr. Armitage chooses this particular moment to bring that up. Chris wasn't _talking_ about that. It's almost like it wasn't on his mind.
Second, I think it's _especially_ interesting that _his_ choice of words so _precisely_ mirrors that of his _daughter._ It's almost like he _coached_ her.
But third, I can tell you I _wouldn't_ have. I voted for Obama in 2008 because after eight years of Dubya, I was utterly _fed up_ with conservative principles worming their way into _every facet_ of society.
I think it's best summed up in that political cartoon I once came across that had one middle-aged man saying to another, "Well, I'm out of work, my kids don't have any health insurance and my brother's in Iraq, but at least gay people I've never met, who _sincerely care_ about each other can't get _married._ At least I can take solace in _that."_
All my support for conservative candidates, though, evaporated the day I did a deep dive on Logical Fallacies and discovered that conservative candidates are pretty much unable to make a case for conservative principles _without_ them. Prior to that, I was iffy. My attitude toward Dems and Reps was "Same sh!t, different piles," and every election, my support was down to a hypothetical _coin_ toss. Since then, I've voted consistently with the Dems.
But a key part of my support for Obama rested on the fact that I took him for a man who understood the value of _term_ limits. I supported him in 2008, and again in 2012 because I took him for someone who would not _run_ for a third term if he had the option.

India, I want to thank you for making this particular reaction. I watched this movie, on my own, and it brought me down, and I saw something very different from what I saw when you reacted to it. I saw a family that might be a _little_ racist, but otherwise, was just very unethical. Hearing your assessment, I've realized, "Holy crap! This family's really _racist!"_
Since I first saw this reaction of yours, I've come to a _policy_ with regard to this movie. It's my attitude that, if you have the option to see it with someone of color, it's in your best interests to do so, because _they_ will inform your understanding and will pick up on details you would have _missed;_ details you need to _see._
