We appreciate the involvement of staff from B Street Health Center. Though the video presents a staff before training in cultural competency, the B Street staff is acting this part. In reality, the staff at B Street is welcoming and has always worked to ensure that they are meeting the diverse needs of their New Mainer patients.

Who can we contact for obtaining permission to use this video (in parts) as part of a branching scenario digital resource for use in a communications course (private use)?

I agree with this video, we need more diversity in healthcare both in training and staff. This is why many places have bilingual staff members.

This all seems pretty racist. When someone moves to a different country, it is THEIR responsibility to become familiar with the customs of said country. To imply that this person doesn't have enough agency to show up on time (even after the first mistake) or fill out paperwork with basic medical questions seems, again, a bit racist! She's at the doctor's office. How on earth would this have anything to do with police??? Again, a video showing the complete inability of a POC to make her way in a different country seems very racist. This is the problem with all this Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion non-sense. At the end of the day, it's actually very racist, thus worsening the very problem it sets out to fight!

I would argue people communicating their differences and expectations while being respectful towards one another would actually help to alleviate the problem.
Also, I feel the video wasn't racist. Perception is reality and her reality was made up of different expectations. The video shows how her perception and expectations were slowly assimilating into a new culture and a world previously unknown to her. I feel the video also shows how healthcare providers can use their positions to help to make this transition easier, while making the patients feel like they are respected and valued as an individual.
I also feel that diversity can be a strength amongst humankind but that inclusion is important as well. Being different brings new perspectives and abilities to the table. Being the same brings empathy and respect. I feel both are important and work best in tandem.

This video is for health care providers. It gives us an example of things to be aware of to provide culturally competent care. Health care providers want to provide the best care possible, so it's important to be aware of any potential barriers to that, such as assuming that every patient is familiar with the US healthcare system.

It is clear that you have not become familiar with the customs of this country yet. The United States of America is a country made up of various immigrants who have made this land their home thus creating a beautiful Nation full of diversity and authenticity. That is how it began, and that is how it will continue to thrive. UNITED States of America. It's literally in the name.
