    You have a Encyclia Guarechea Black Comet it is in the Cattleya family, and it is fragrant. Vicky, I believe your mother's plant may be an Aerides quinquevulnera. It is quite fragrant. I purchased one from the sale table at RF Orchids in 2022. It took a year-and -a-half before I was able to nurse it back to better health. It has since bloomed twice once in fall and again in late spring. My plant has another pike now. Sergio/Vicky where did you buy your Habenaria erichmichelii?
    I am delighted to see you making your vandas their own tranquil garden. As we find beautiful plants to add to our collection it becomes a logistic game to accommodate on our property. Yours has plenty of growing space so enjoy the planning of your expansion. Once again you two what a marvelous job of filming and bringing more education to all of your viewers.
    🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟 Respectfully, Debbie

      Hi, Debb. Yes, now we are sure we have an Aerides. A couple of viewers said it, too, and we saw one in the Redland show Saturday. The Habenaria we got at an auction in our orchid society. Watch the video, We joined an orchid society.
      Thanks again for your beautiful comments and feedback. That's the fuel we need to continue in this beautiful journey 🤗💓😘

    Really good video guys. Often times we see videos of growers who have large orchid areas, many trees to hang orchids etc, but seeing what you’ve done in a limited space truly resonates with the average orchid grower. Well done guys. That Vanda section looks incredible. I am sure you will build a similar structure for the other orchids in no time.

      Hi, Alejandro. We also have to be aware of the HOA rules and regulations, which is why we are having to redo the old area. But it's all for good. You are all going to be impressed when you see it. Thank you always for watching and your beautiful and honest comments. Saludos.

    I really enjoyed seeing your collection. It is definitely growing larger! You certainly had an over-wintering challenge but all looks great now. Maybe you should take some of the blooming orchids in the house so Vicky gets to see them more. Your new area is fantastic. ❤ Good job Sergio! I’d love to see periodic updates on your progress, collection and blooms.

    Hi Vicki & Sergio
    I am also a transplant from South Florida. We moved up to the Daytona Beach area about 3 years ago. Yes the winters are colder and longer! It was definitely an adjustment. What I ended up doing is putting sliders on my Lani with vinyl panes instead of glass. That's where the orchids have wintered the last 2 years and it has worked out great for me.
    Thanks for all the videos!

    Hi
    The no ID Catt that Sergios mom gave him is the iwanagara apple blossom. I also have that and it can get very big. It is being eaten up by either snails or slugs. Hydrogen Peroxide will take care of those critters and she may like a repot because her media is likely filled with eggs from the snails 🐌 and sluggs.

    If I may, when you mount orchids..what I do to help them produce roots abd grab on quick, I mix half spoon root hormone with honey(tea spoon ) or molasses. I mix it in a pry bottle 750ml I spry them once a week with this mixture. I saw it on a Japanese growers channel, snd it works🎉🎉🎉.

      Oh, nice. We use superthrive. And now, we've been using a fertilizer from Palmer Orchids. Mr. Palmer developed the Better-Gro brand many years ago, and now he came up with this one that has calmag and seaweed all in one. One for weekly feeding and one for monthly. We love the results.

    I’m trying to understand HOA mentality. Folks in FL grow orchids/tropical plants in nice greenhouse structures all the time - seems to be part of the culture ❤️. Would your HOA veto “any” and all structure over fence height? Or just some things? Even if you proposed a pre-fab kit greenhouse or even a fancy classy high-end greenhouse like a Hartley? Ha ha, not saying you should- but I’m just curious. Seems so limiting. You are really, really ingenious to design your structure under fence height! Great adaptation 👍👏🎉

    • @vickyslikes
      @vickyslikes  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi, Mary. Pretty much, all communities with HOA have similar rules. While it is annoying sometimes, it's better to live in these communities because there is certain control as to what color you can paint your house, keeping your lawn mowed, etc. But then you get people with power trips and start making people's lives impossible. So, yes, we have to adapt and make the necessary changes to avoid issues. Fortunately, there is a new law in Florida that prohibits HOAs from ruling what not do in your property, as long as you don't see it from the street.

    • @marylalone7104
      @marylalone7104 3 месяца назад

      @@vickyslikes so could you build a greenhouse structure in your backyard? I imagine not because other folks' backyards face yours. Well your greenhouse structures are great and I can't wait to follow the progress ❤

    • @vickyslikes

      Hello, in summer we water twice a day, two or three times a week. But remember, watering depends on what media you grow orchids in. We use a mix of clay pebbles and bark mix. Thanks so much for watching.
