I have a good suggestion for you, try wrapping your wood whool around a foam core. It will give you a better anchoring point when you run the wing wire into the body. Its just a thought.
Hello! I'm 15 and I have been wanting to get into taxidermy for around 2-3 years. Recently I've started a job and I have enough money to get supplies to start and I decided that I want to make my own forms and mounts like you do instead of buying them. But I also have been looking for some professional advice on what to start with supplies wise. If you could give me some tips that would be well appreciated :)
John, I avoid that like the plague. I wrap my bodies tight to begin with and have never had an issue. Dipping or spraying with water does make the wood wool expand however, you are now introducing moisture, moisture that's going to be sealed in by placing the skin around it, no light, no air. In my opinion that's a perfect recipe for mold/mildew and it's a risk vs reward, for me the juice just isn't worth the squeeze
No you are wrong if you dip in water and let dry you will have a very ridged body if not you should a piece of foam or balsa wood in the middle for a core and dipping in borax water will deter insects
Wonderful way of teaching and enjoying hobby of your own passion,,, ❤❤❤
Good video, finally someone showed me how to keep the neck wire from spinning in the body. Also a less expensive way to do bodies. Thanks
Great job. You are a very good teacher.
This was so helpful. Thank you

This video was great!! Helped a lot.

Can you do a bird series start to finish? Thanks. Also where do you get the bird supply’s like the wire, body and neck material?
Doing a full video start to finish is a little more than I can pull off on my own. However, I may be able to do several shorter videos if each step

I used to do that all time
Thank you for making the video. What kind of string and gauge wire? Is there any benifit to putting mothballs in the form?
I think the string is just butcher's twine ^-^
Are you using 12 or 14 gauge wire for your wings, legs, and neck?
I follow you faithfully
Thanks brother
Put one end of that wire in a vice and other In ur drill chuck and go forward and reverse a few times . Will he straight as an arrow
What kind of string are you using
You should dip your wood wool in water as yo wrap might take longer but you have a stronger and more secure body that will hold your wires more secure

What do you use as a skull ?
I use both real and artificial skulls
Then use stuff out of pillows for fill
I've used it in the past when I first started however, it's not the best
Plus it sucks up any grease
Your birds should be fleshed and washed properly. No need for something to absorb grease
We hope to see each other
