I loved that little bait and switch around 0:35. Gave me a good chuckle. On another note, I would love to see your thoughts on the whole paid mods incident.

Dylan, this might sound pretentious because I've been day-drinking. It's a really nice day out and I've just gotten home! I apologize for any typos or general errors.
Remember when DLC was first becoming a thing? With the rise of the internet and the possibility of providing content to consumers without any physical exchanges being necessary was mind-blowing! I could sit myself down at the computer and download SWAT 4 from Direct2Drive without ever having to leave the house and interact with the horrible outside world.
Around the time of this rise, Bethesda released a set of golden horse armor for $2.50 and the internet collectively vomited blood all over their keyboards. They were testing the waters and trying to find a balance between price and quality and quantity regarding these bits of DLC. I really don't think this was a malicious move. It was a misguided and hilariously inappropriate, but not malicious. Today, it's grown alongside the gaming world as a whole into a pretty bad territory. Making games is really expensive and people seem to be willing to spend more than the price-of-entry to games they enjoy. More power to them. But the consumer in general has been able to guide downloadable content into a much more acceptable format compared to the aforementioned horse-armor; even if you only hear about the bad instances (Evolve, MKX, CoD).
Here we are, years later, and Bethesda is putting oil in the water again! Immediately, at the announcement of the paid mods we saw an absolute swarm of low effort cash-grabs like little skins for weapons and so on. I think, much to the chagrin of the PC gaming community, it would have eventually smoothed out and we would see a huge influx of activity and passion behind a small group of people that mainly went unappreciated in the public eye. I’m fine with wading through 100 pieces of horse armor to allow for the existence of things like Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Left Behind, or Old World Blues. And if money gave modders the opportunity to churn out some amazing stuff that wouldn't have existed otherwise, then we all win!
I completely understand the controversy, though. And who knows how it would have gone? A lot of my favorite bands went to shit when money got involved. But on the other hand it sometimes takes brave and seemingly selfish business decisions for special things to happen…

Shit was good. Quick and subtle.

Cee Marshall Thanks for giving such a detailed response man. But to provide a contrary opinion, most of the money changing hands isn't even ending up in the modders pockets. Is it fair that I give you a block of wood, then you carve into something lovely and nice, then I come back and swoop 75% out of your hand? That's the main injustice going on, and if this system comes back that has to be the issue resolved: The majority must go to the creators, not some corporate suit who want's that extra .75 cents to buy this years Porsche.

Dylan Francis I completely agree! And I forgot to talk about that point...
It's disgusting that Valve and Bethesda can pocket more than half the money received for only acting as a host for the transaction. If that was fixed I think what I said would be more relevant, but that is the biggest issue. I would call the police if an ATM took 75¢ of every dollar I took out.

Cee Marshall Yep, that pretty much sums up the whole mess that was this new system. It was awesome talking to you once again and I look forward to our next conversation. See you later man!

Loved the presentation, I thought pretty much the same thing after playing for a couple hours. Hopefully it doesn't fall into the trap that godus fell into (minus the Molyneux element). I don't know if they'll successfully be able to develop a satisfying PC tycoon game while still being just as functional on mobile, since they promised both.

It always upsets me to see developers skimping on complexity just because shallow gameplay is the norm on mobile. I'm glad you're holding them accountable for those missing features
