I'm an aging sports bike rider and I'm seriously considering one of these. I'm also looking at the z900rs. Both look amazing but I'm undecided. Obviously test rides will help but I would appreciate your input.
Many thanks and the best guzzi video I've seen yet 😊

Good to hear. They are both very different bikes. The Z900RS feels like a sports bike with retro styling, it’s fast too! (Review coming next week). The guzzi has so much character, it’s much slower but has so much more feel. Personally I’d have the Guzzi but the Z900 might feel more familiar for you

      Hope this helps:
I switched back from V7 to z900rs last year because V7 is too small for my 188cm height and a semi regular passenger. The z900rs can take passenger and luggage without a sweat but costs more, drinks more and I feel the visual quality lacking in comparison. z900rs also handles better significantly. I call the V7 a Time Machine, it feels unlike any other bike but it is a compromise. If you are after a relaxed solo ride and not the tallest person, or you have the funds for a second bike, the V7 is the bike. If you still have the need for speed, are a taller person or if you need sportier slow and high speed handling, the rs may be better. As you correctly stated a test ride is the smartest thing but the choice will be super tough 😅

@@CibotxI'm 6'1" sat on both, I'm sure I'd be ok for 300km on the MG, and can't say the Z900RS felt significantly better. One thing I didn't like about the Z900RS was the character (or lack of), it looked amazing, but engine is so refined that it just didn't have the grin factor for me.

I had a z900 and just traded in for a v7 stone. Absolutely no regrets. I love the way the bike makes you feel when riding it and I love how I enjoy riding it much more than any other bike at slower speeds but I got the need for speed out of my system first before realizing what I truly wanted in a bike.

Z900 is the same as their street fighter but with retro tank and round head light. Also it's liquid cooled. It's not a retro bike at all. It is an amazing and fast motorcycle however.

Great review. I am an Italian sports bike rider and decided I needed something more comfortable for everyday use and for a 1500 mile trip through the alps. I went to the dealer to try the v100 but saw the 2023 black V7 Special and was struck just by the looks alone. I took one for a test ride and fell in love. Every mile has been pure unadulterated motorcycling joy. Everyday I want to be riding it and when I step off I just want to get back on. The character has to be experienced to understand, you feel so connected all the time and the engine responds beautifully and ‘talks’ to you. So many people who see the bike ask about it. It is an understated modern classic masterpiece. I can’t recommend the v7 more highly. Whilst modern motorcycle prices are soaring and overloaded with tech. The V7 represents phenomenal value for money… like Alfa cars everyone should own at least one Guzzi in their lifetime!

Got that same model and color, has some 2200km on the clock. Here are some infos for the ones that might be interested.
It takes some 1500km + first service to fully break in, clutch, gearbox and final shaft transmission. Real consumption for me is 4.2-4.5l for 100km which means that i have a 400-450km range which is in between others one of the reasons I bought it for. All the components are of good quality, brakes are really good, front floating disk is a big plus, 2 channel ABS and traction control to help you when needed. Tires are great, mine are Michelin Road Classic, I see the one in the video has probably the Dunlops but should be good as well.
I got it also because is a simple bike to service, everything is easily accessible, air cooled.
For the ones that want to know the speed/rpm values here they go:
    90kmh/3000rpm
    130kmh/4500rpm
Consumption at 130kmh is higher but the bike is stable and can handle those speeds comfortably. A perfect cruise speed would be 110kmh.
The bike behaves perfectly for everyday use and it’s certainly a bike that one can use for trips, fast enough, stable, fun, comfortable and with a good range.
Nothing bad detected so far. If i was to be picky It vibrates a bit though through the foot pegs so you might want to move your foot from time to time and there aren’t as many accessories available as for example for a Bonneville.

Yes the T120 and Speed Twin are quicker and very handsome, but the V7 is just so unique and special. Like all the fine things in life they get better with age, so after 1K the gearbox will get silky smooth and the exhaust note gets richer. No real need to change those pipes in my view.

Spec sheets lie, even when they're telling the truth. Nothing will tell you more about a bike's engine than experiencing it for yourself. You can't just slap a number on it. Nothing will tell you about a bikes weight or its geometry without riding it. You can't put a number on it. A bike is a sum of parts and different bikes suit different riders for different reasons. A "slow" bike can be faster than a "fast" bike if you can ride it better. Forget the spec sheets.

@@davidbrayshaw3529 These are Wise words indeed.. so true, more can be less and less can be more where bikes are concerned.. I've owned super fast machines that proved to be utterly boring because they make the process of going quick a mere formality and didn't improve the riding experience , where as a low powered torque machine can just put a huge grin on your face..Test rides, at least ones long enough to ascertain a bikes " true character, comfort ( or lack-of) are very hard to come by which is why these videos are so good especially when ( unusually) the tester is mature enough to recognise the true character as a strength and not a spec sheet as a negative..

@@stevied6286 I had a friend when I was a kid who collected vintage car and bike magazines. When I say "vintage", I mean the magazines, not the vehicles that they were reviewing. I used to love the terminology used in those magazines. Often, little was mentioned about specifications. Rather, the reviewer would describe the riding or driving experience as he (yes, he, in those days!) perceived it. "The motorcycle accelerates briskly from a standstill before settling into its stride at an indicated 60mph, where it will happily maintain its speed". "The bike exhibits a certain uneasiness in tracking at such speeds but is quite manageable" "While this may be a deficit to some riders who typically traverse highways, it will be welcomed by those who operate the vehicle in more challenging environments in which a quick steering motorcycle such as this is in its element". "Braking is also well catered for in these conditions with a large twin leading shoe front brake more than capable of pulling up the fairly nimble package".
I apologise... memories! I could go on for hours. A good bike is a good bike.

The special is definitely nicer, and would be my choice if it only had an LED headlamp. I will probably go for the latest model "Corsa" which has a small retro windscreen. It's probably the most easy to drive motorcycle I have tried: the clutch is very forgiving, the engine has a lot of inertia helping to get started properly and change gears smoothly. And it's one of the very few motorcycles i can drive without earplugs! 😂 The engine sound is not aggressive, it sounds even friendly! If you want a more commanding engine sound you can get the Special Edition with Arrow pipes. Sounds amazing!

He then came back, looked at the bike from the rear, then the other side, walked to the front and looked at it from one side, then the other, looked straight at me and said " what an absolutely beautiful motorbike" I replied thanks, he said your welcome and disappeared into the shop.

I've got a '22 Stone, and yeah, it's the most characterful bike ever! I've also got a 2012 Kawasaki Concours with a big, smooth inline-4, so when I took the Stone for a test ride, initially I was like "I dunno if I can handle the engine vibrations." But after a mile I was absolutely loving the vibes and found the torque, sound, and handling intoxicating! And the V7s are absolutely beautiful and the seat ties that on my Connie as the most comfortable of any bike I've owned. Add a small screen and you'll want to ride mile after mile. They're also amazingly rare. Even though I'm near the 2nd largest dealer in the US I've only seen 3-4 other Guzzis including one older V7 in the nearly one year that I've had mine - and I ride a lot. So if you're into the "iconoclast rebel" aspect of owning a motorcycle, a Guzzi V7 will check that box much better than the ubiquitous H-D Roadglide or Streetglide, and at a small fraction of the price.
And the icing on the cake is their value. I don't think you'll find another bike that offers so much for so little.

Moto Guzzi have built a bike which is more than the sum of it's parts with the V7s. Unlike the Triumph Bonneville & the Royal Enfields they are constantly compared with, they are not modern bikes dressed in retro clothes, they are bikes with their roots in the late '70s, true classics in every sense of the word. Sure, they have ABS & traction control these days but they aren't a whole lot different to the bikes I grew up riding way back in the early '80s & THAT'S where they get their character.
Not everyone will "get" what they are about & some people may outright hate them but if you get the chance, take one for a ride. You might just fall in love like I did.
I got mine at the end of June (the start of winter here) & since then, the only time I've sat on my Harley is to admire the Guzzi & the only time I've sat in my car was to move it to make it easier to get the Guzzi out... It's that good.

Ended up at a Moto Guzzi dealership. I absolutely loved the look of the Special, but the V85TT Adventure fit like a glove. I got a cracking deal on a left over. It ended up being cheaper than the base Tenere, while offering cruise control, heated grips and a full set of luggage. Shaft drive is a nice bonus.
I rode it all summer, and absolutely love it. The engine is lovely. The clunk in the transmission quieted down a fair bit with use. The big tank and good mileage give lots of range. I may try a different seat for really long rides, but I suspect a sheepskin will do just fine.

I bought the '23 V7 Stone Special Edition this year. All black with red highlights and MG arrow exhausts.
Very pretty ! After over 2000 miles I am well pleased. I like the Eagle led in the headlamp which also is the best night vision I've had on any bike. I know this, and the larger digital dash, is not everybody's choice, but I prefer it. I've added a tiny Dart screen and a back rack.
Average 55 mpg commuting. Only thing I can fault is the fuel light comes on far too early. But the bike counts how many miles you've done since it came on.
Finish is great so far. Great videos guys.

I bought a 2022 850 V7 Special in Blue in March. Gorgeous bike. Once it has had its first service and the shift light stops coming on at 4500 RPM the bikes is a blast to ride. I ride to work most days. The ride is a combination of city streets and high speed toll road. I put some stainless steel Zard exhaust on it and DNA air filter and it is a real bad ass bike now. I highly recommend this bike for anybody that wants a modern retro classic.

Bought a Stone this past July and I gotta say i'm now a full-blown Guzzi fanboy. This bike is an absolute pleasure to drive, so easy to maintain and offers so many mods possibilities. You gotta see it as a canva you're welcome to color as you please.
One simple thing that bugs me, however. No, it's not the clunky transmission (it's so charming to me). It's the offset digital display. I can't figure out why they decided to uncenter that thing. Not only does it look a tad weird, but it's not offset enough (if you insist on uncertering it). Basically, it LOOKS centered from a POV. So sometimes, when you ride, it might look like it's the center of the bike, which can be a bit confusing when you need to know where's your front wheel.
If you're going to offset it, assume it fully. Otherwise, place it right in the middle. I must also note that the crooked whirlwind it creates (more wind coming from the right in your stomach than on the left) high speed is quite strange and a tad hard to deal with, especially if you're a skinny tall dude like me.
That's it, that's my only complain. That thing is so lovely and comfortable for cruising. The OEM seat is perfect, which never happens on bikes usually. Change the OEM exhausts for Agostini slip-ons (or a BAAK full exhaust system if you got the money), take off the dB killers and you'll have a smile on your face each and everytime you'll ride it. I'm 1600 km in now, made the first service (valves are very easy to ajust by yourself, oil change is an absolute breeze) and I gotta say I had no problem other than some little gremlins with the starter (just turn off the key, turn in back on and you'll be good).

Great review, I love your enthousiasm! I've got a 2014 V7 Racer myself and really love the bike. I've been wanting to try the new 850cc V7, however eveytime I see my V7 in the garage I just fall in love with it all over again!
I really agree on the comments about the character. It's not just "a" bike, but it really feels like a special machine. It's not fast, but it is light and nimble. The engine vibrates and rocks side to side, when starting up it shakes all over the place and I really love that, makes it "feel alive" if you know what I mean ;). The V7 is so much more than the "mediocre" specs say. You really grow attached to the bike :)

I'm an older rider (age 71) and I put 9200 km on my V7 Stone in a few months. I thought it was great until I tried the MG V85. The longer travel suspension on that bike is vastly more comfortable; and the cornering in tight mountain twisties is just magical compared to any other bike I've ever ridden. It's both neutral and incredibly stable. The V7 is fun, the V85 is amazing.

I test drove my V7 Stone (2020, 750cc) and the RE Interceptor. Had a real hard time with the peg position on the RE and the engine not as strong as the Guzzi. The RE felt a bit cheap in quality to the Guzzi as well. The Guzzi's are still handmade in Italy which makes them even more special than either the RE or the T100. Guzzi hands down in terms of character, ride and comfort. I've taken 1900+ mile road trip and the bike performed well. Good luck with your decision.

I wanted a modern classic. I looked hard at Royal Enfield, Triumph, and Kawasaki W800. I've always admired Guzzis, though never owned one. After carefully looking at the 2022 V7 850 Special (in Formale Blue) and considering the added value it offers over the Brit Twin inspired bikes, it became an easy decision for me. The fit and finish is every bit as good, maybe better, than Triumph. And that's saying a lot. But it's what one actually gets for similar or less money that makes it the obvious choice for me.
The shaft drive, come on, are you kidding? For a standard motorcycle it is a vast improvement over chains and sprockets.
The brakes are also far superior to the T100, any RE, or the W800. A four piston Brembo on a 320mm rotor? That's the real deal. Great feel and power.
The large fuel tank is yet another huge bonus and a compelling one for me. That added range is appreciated, especially when touring.
The ease of maintenance is another thing not to be discounted. I did the valve adjustment myself and even being the first time took less than 30 minutes and I sat in a chair while doing it!
The seat is very comfortable and low. Easy for me to put both feet flat on the ground at a stop and I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam. The reach to the bars and the pegs is ideal and imparts a very neutral feel without any pressure points.
The transmission shifts beautifully, and is a six speed. That's 1 more than the T100 or W800.
Does it read like I'm happy with the bike? I have no dog in the race and this my honest take as a 68 year old guy who's had lot's of bikes and just wanted a competent standard motorcycle that'll do different things, with style.
I'm looking forward to hearing what the Ol' Man thinks of the Guzzi he gets.

I actually went ahead and bought myself a 2023 Moto Guzzi V7 Special, (silver stripe monochrome - Black color )
It was a huge help looking through your videos and this review,
Although I compared the bonnie t120 vs V7 special, rode them both toe to toe,
quite interesting though: The bonnie was close to brand new.. and the v7 special I rode was the dealerships "personnel" bike, which means it was 2 years old, the brakes were worn out, and I felt that the gearbox was a bit worn... I digress
    My thoughts are as follows:
The Bonnie has more features and power, some might even say safer (2x discs front brake) - But I don't ride a bike to be safe... so.
The lack of clunkiness in the gearbox makes it feel a bit like a sowing machine: More refined sure, but The FEEL wasn't there.
    Easy and comfortable, sure.
What The Guzzi "lacks" in features and power: It wins in feel, charm, character, and overall: I'm happier when I ride it.
    - I'll see if I'll be missing the features in the Bonnie T120 after a couple 100kms
    Thanks for your videos.
    Best Regards - Stockholm Sweden,
    / Robin

I'm 5.5, both feet on the ground (not perfectly flat...), low weight (compared to the Interceptor), easy to ride, stable, not intimidating (the T120 is!). The engine is a masterpiece, beautiful, only good vibrations, torque is pleasant, sound is light and mechanical, low revs aren’t a problem in the city. I think I smiled during the whole test 😊

Great review covering excellent the mood of a Guzzi. I bought a California 1400 Touring in 2019 although never owned a cruiser bike before. Had all been naked bikes, then sports bikes, then adventure bikes. Needed one for long distance travel with a pillion. Had a test ride on a V7 in 2015 and from then on I wantrd a Guzzi but could not get a hand on a Stelvio or Norge. Then that phantastic 1400 ccm bikes got on stage and I bought my California.
The engine has the character and sound of an old Diesel engine fishing trawler running absolutely smooth - not as shaky as an American V2. That engine is not "trannsversial". It doesn't count, that cylinders are looking out left and right - what counts is the way the crankshaft is built in and thats is from front to rear. Therefore the bike turns over to the right when accelerted and turns left when slowing down. This can be used to stear through bends and makes the bike handle very agile. And an Italian frame, supension and brakes are really great - even on my cruiser.
Guzzi is for gourmets - not for racers. If you buy one visit the Moto Guzzi Open Day in Mandello del Lario - an open factory event each year in early September. Social event for the factory workers and their families supported by some 10.000 Guzzi riders on their bikes. Cheers Frank.

I say buy the v7 you will never regret it. I would like to see more guzzi videos. My 3 bike dream garage is the audace, a v8tt, and a stornello v7 11 scrambler.

Yes! Finally you get to review a Moto Guzzi, and this one in the same color is the one that I bought this May. Thank you for the review 🦅

I like it very much and I agree with everything you said about it except what you said about the exhaust. I realize that's a subjective thing, but I wouldn't want the exhaust to drown out the sounds coming from the engine and the drive train which is, in my opinion, the most characterful attribute of the V7.
Keep up the good work. I appreciate your perspective.

Great review! 👍 I love bikes with character, hence my HD 2006 Springer Classic. I love the Springer but it's way too cumbersome around town with the springer front end. The V7 would be a great addition with its sideways, air-cooled V twin and the added features of 6 gears and a shaft drive. I can hear the clunky gearbox in the review which reminds me of the '71 BMW 75/5 I owned in the 80s. Not an issue for me to get that shaft drive. I'm sure it's way more nimble than what I have. I have a Honda XR150 here in the Philippines which is perfect for the traffic and road conditions but waaay too small for the roads in the US. I'm sold!

As a V7 and a Mandello S owner, I can only agree with everything you said 😀 They will get under your skin, they have quirks, but they also have, as you found, character. Both the Mandello and the V7 always make me smile when riding them, and after parking up, I always look back. Great review, thanks.

For me Moto Guzzi has everything. History ,classic style , unique character, practical, relatively exclusive . If I was being picky I’d say it’s a shame the 850 is 10% heavier than the 750 My personal cut off point is 200kgs I have a ‘79 v50 ii 150kgs handles looks and sounds sublime with an air of modesty.Completely dependable as a daily ride.❤❤

I used to have a T 100, good ride, smooth engine, but nowadays I use V7III, I think it's easy to ride but more fun to ride than T100.

So glad you got the Guzzi feel. If only Guzzi would of given it the same hp as the 85TT (80bhp) they would of had an even bigger winner on their hands, but as always Guzzi somehow fail to do the right thing for the Market. So Glads you enjoyed it, I've had my Moto Guzzi for 16years and I'm never selling it.

I have a 2022 V7 Special and it is a great bike. It does have a terrific amount of character but it is also a capable machine. It isn't the best at any one thing but it does everything well. Town riding is effortless, the nimble handling and the low-end torque of the V-Twin make maneuvering in traffic a breeze. I love taking my V7 out on the slower back roads and just cruise along @ 50 MPH. Having owned Harley's for 35 years, the gear box is very Harley-like. It's clunky and industrial, but that doesn't bother me a bit. If coming over from a Japanese bike the Guzzi might take some getting used to, but I think it would win over most anyone if given a chance.
