I’m lucky enough to live in Newfoundland. It truly is. This song I first heard a long, long time ago, then I found out it was about Newfoundland. And, I’m also related to one of the people who made this song, we even have the same last name.
@@ryanwhite3393 Hello Ryan. I believe that it really an anthem, even if not declared formally. Also it could apply to New England which shares many of the same traits as Newfoundland.
Years ago my wife had a co-worker who was from Newfoundland and one day my wife started singing this song and her co-worker got all teary eyed and said to stop it or she was going to have to move home again.
Mainlander from ontario (lol). Both my parents are newfounderlanders which allowed me to spend several months year over year in the bonavesta bay area. The entire newfie discography is absolutely nostalgic. All these tunes continue to bring me to a place which I can only understand as home. Newfies are exceptional human beings.
I used to think the late great Songwriter Ron Hynes wrote the greatest Newfoundland song ever with Sonny’s Dream, but this one truly captures the essence of Newfoundland and the pride us Newfoundlanders carry with us for life.
My dad took me to his hometown when I was 14. I'm 29 now. And this music is the only way I can still connect to my heritage. This song makes me cry every single time. It always has even before I knew why. I actually had to beg my dad, he had a talk with me and I told him that I didn't know how I could continue to live missing a place I had never been. Tearing up just thinking about it now. The most beautiful damned place on Earth and I'll never be able to thank him enough for sharing it with me.
😢I grew up in Labrador, and as an adult traveled to the Rock. I loved it. Its magical. Loved attending kitchen party. This song makes me tear up, too. I want to go back. Its a piece of heaven. 😊❤😊
I like to tell myself I'm not homesick, but the fact that this makes me cry every time makes a liar out of me. I'm in the city now and it really is a swarming faceless crowd. Life is different there. I don't know when is the last time I followed a little brook as it trickled to the shore 😢
Visited Newfoundland two years ago and fell in love with her. Heard this song played by cover bands while I was there and now it's one of my favorites. Amazing province, amazing song.
My dad's side of the family are all proper Newfoundlanders up until my generation. I was the first in 8 generations to be born outside of the beautiful province. I grew up listening to this song whenever my grandfather would visit from st. John's for hours on end, I may get to visit for the first time this year if all goes well... my chance to finally discover those soft water joys
Absolutely love this song. I am half native originally from Ontario. But my father is from Newfoundland, I have lived in Newfoundland and spent a large amount of time in Newfoundland. I consider it a part of me. I am proud the other half of me is “Newfie”
I 45 now from New Brunswick. Old joke from my youth: "What do you call a Newfie in New Brunsick? Broke. He couldn't afford to get to Toronto." I'm near Toronto now and far from the Atlantic. May not be a Newfie but I share that east coast kin outsider as a badge.
Wayne (Da buddy wit da guitar) Sand this song with me and some other people from my school at our spring concert! It was Amazing meeting him! He even played guitar and my cousin played accordion wit him. Talk about a newfies dream.
This is the story of every nl and lab resident. Spent my time away and came back to nl just not to my hometown. I feel the pull of the mainland wondering if I made the right decision to stay. But I stayed for my family.
I could do without the riches, and the glamour and the Noise, and I will definitely take my chances of anything that comes from the sound, Rock. Nice Song! Nice Remember! Nice Place! Nice Heart! Nice Soul! Nice, thanks for being here. I Love New Found Land, Always!!!
My dad is a Newfie and gets home sick if doesn't go home every other year at least. I gave him 1200$ to go back to the rock. I haven't been to Newfoundland sincey Nan and Pop passed in 2014 and 2015. Hurts too much to drive by my summer home. And know its not my family home anymore.😢
Great Song! I Remember this concert as if it was Yesterday. If we had a Newfoundland Labrador ,Hall of Fame these guys & this tune would be @ the Top of the list.
On Dec. 07, 2019, I heard this song when I saw the snow-covered St John's the first time. It was sung by a cute girl in the Sobeys Christmas performance. At that moment, I just wanna stand here, tried to remember lyrics and melody.
Just came back from our next-door Island, yesterday, and we had the distinct pleasure of catching the lads on Saturday night. Good on you folks; great stuff.
I been saying this all my life. Although this songs been covered by many different people who did awesome jobs.. nobody can sing it like Wayne.. in any of his songs his voice just fits and can be imitated but never replaced.. there’s just something calming about it.
One of the last songs I sang to my mom during her final hour. I'll always love you mom
I am a Nova Scotian brought up in a small fishing community. He is singing to me and I feel the words in my soul.
Atlantic Canadian pride! :)
It’s Newfoundland… not east coast.
Just spent 12 days on a road trip to Newfoundland with my wife. Magical, beautiful place.
I’m lucky enough to live in Newfoundland.
It truly is.

A damn proud Newfie right here my son.
I haven't been home since 2008,and this song makes me home sick every time.
The best song to ever come out of Newfoundland. Maybe even Canada.
I mean what's better than the song is buddy's suit
An Amazing Song!!
It should be the anthem.
@@ryanwhite3393 Hello Ryan. I believe that it really an anthem, even if not declared formally. Also it could apply to New England which shares many of the same traits as Newfoundland.
Yeah this song is really beautiful

I lived in St. John's for 12 years. Moved back to my home town (NYC) two years ago, but this makes me miss Newfoundland so much.

Song makes me so homesick everytime it plays. Proud to be a newfie
Yeah man
I ain't from the Island itself but it still makes me happy to be a Big Lander myself
Cheers! Cape Breton Island ❤
Being a Newfoundlander now in BC, I love this song.. Brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. It will be sung at my memorial....

Went away to work years ago came home to Newfoundland in the fall. Like driving into a postcard. I never went away for work again. Thanks for sharing
This song my uncle loved it when he passed he wanted it played at the funeral he was betrayed this is one of the three things ive got left of him
I'm back again after 3 months to play his memory again I found a feather he gave me when I was just a boy I'd like to attach it to my hat

I feel the same way and I”m not even from the Rock but I love it there.
I love this song! It makes my hair stand up and my eyes water!!! God it's beautiful!!!
Look at Wayne's expression during the closeups, you can just see the feeling he puts into the song.
I grew up in Newfoundland and moved away with my family in 1996, but this song STILL gives me goosebumps.
Same here, same year, me poor Nan just passed away, and to me, she was the best of Newfoundland and it's beauty.
Only people who have made me laugh and cry.
Of course when I was really young.
23 years old now and they still make me laugh and cry.
Displaced newfie here. This is my song that makes me feel home!

This song calls me back to Newfoundland. Hope to go back again next summer. What a wonderful place-what a wonderful song!
Proud to be Newfie my kids go to Newfoundland every year with their grandparents.

And "Capers" are nothing but Newfies who ran out of money on the way to Galt and Fort Mac. 😁

I got to see them perform this live in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. A song that touched my soul, and that I will never forget.

I saw these guys, they were fantastic. I was so excited when they played this song.
I will be visiting Newfoundland the coming Fall. My biggest fear is I may not want to leave.
I got screeched at Christian’s on this song - beautiful song that represents what is beautiful of NF and Labrador.
Great song and I heard them sing it live too at the Fredericton Playhouse. One of my favorites that Wayne sings.

Great song and version.
And the fiddler's clothes made my eyes bleed
The world’s beat
Ya Newfoundland
Yet they still sound the same!
Woo
Beauty! What year was this?
Proud to live in the same town as Kevin (singer/buddywasisname). What year was this recorded?
1988 i believe, its from a show called "fresh fish" recorded in St. John's
My daughter is in love with your songs
Saltwater Joys was recorded on Their album Flat out which was recorded in 1990 so this is prob from 90 or 91
@@ironworkerwelder Wayne mentioned in one of their DVDs that he wrote it in 1987, so probably not long after that.
Is this the theme from Land & Sea?
I want to say between 91-93 but I can't say for sure.
" Claten's wharf" you certainly are from around the bay... lol
