    Hey, my favorite family! I love this grocery haul...I was just at Aldi the other day and now they have wild-caught shrimp and fish sticks! I was like..."WOW!" They have come a long way. I'm an 80's baby so I remember when they first came out and had pop by the names of: "Patch" (Lol)

    Sugar ideas for anyone curious with not much storage space - from a prepper. If you buy regular sugar you can make your own brown sugar and powdered sugar. Brown sugar is just 1 cup sugar and 1 Tbsp molasses whisked together and powdered sugar is just blended 1 cup sugar and 1 Tbsp cornstarch.

    Thats a good stock up for 600 . I think a lot of people don't realise how much they actually eat at home and out and how much it costs them to eat out . We eat almost all meals at home or we make food to take a lot. It's a treat to plan a road trip knowing we'll stop at our favourite bakery. I don't mind buying condiments at all. I do now make a few special ones like apple butter bbq and peach Worcestershire sauce because I love learning how they're made and experimenting with our tastes but they're a small part of our diet. I focus instead on the majority of our food being whole and healthy . I just filled a box with raw sugar for all preserving but we get rapadura for kitchen use in coffee and daily food. Maple syrup is really hard to get at Aldi for quite a while and my youngest is limited by what she can tolerate so we're starting to mix it with golden sy. We can only do our best. You are doing amazing. I can't wait to see the basement /cellar tour 😍 Thank you for sharing lovelies 💜

    Thoroughly enjoy these haul videos. But I can't imagine this will last a whole year. And $600 is far less than most much smaller families spend for a couple weeks of groceries. You did very well. Thanks for sharing. 😊P.S. Just a final thought: I find so many posters apologize for their purchases if they're not "organic" or "healthy". Why? When did we give permission to the food police to intimidate and shame us? We buy what we like and afford. It's not their business. (ok...off my soap box ... lol)

    • @HeartwayFarms
      @HeartwayFarms  2 года назад +8

      Well, this all the haul does not represent a whole year's supply of groceries for our family. Just supplemental groceries. We raise our own chickens for eggs, chickens for meat, steer for meat, we get raw milk and have raw honey here at the farm. We raise grass-fed lamb and put a lot of that up for the year. I buy bulk organic flour from Azure standard and country Life naturals. This is just items that I need specifically from Aldi that I buy in bulk. ☺️

    • @HeartwayFarms
      @HeartwayFarms  2 года назад +10

      And you're right, I don't owe anybody an explanation. But I happily give it from time to time so people can learn more about who I am and how I prefer to feed my family. ❤️❤️❤️

      @Heartway Farms I am with you on this! Someone commented on one of my videos that there were "so many chemicals" in my food in my haul. 🤔 I ignored it, but inside, I was like, " For heavens sake, theres forever chemicals in the rainwater!!!!" You can not escape everything!!! We can pick and choose our battles ourselves. 🙄

    • @linwn2106

      Yes.. it okay to keep some preservetiv item for long term used meaning if at the end of year all the chemicals already pass over of less.. better have some food rather nothing to eat .. those that you used everyday it's good you have organic

    What a great haul! Thanks for sharing what works for you and yours. Also, I live in Mississippi, where we grow a lot of pecans. Many times we can pick them up out of a friend’s yard, but they are always expensive to purchase, even locally. I think it’s because the labor to get them ready to eat is extremely time-consuming, as there is a bitter, woody membrane between each half that must be removed even once you successfully crack the outer shell (which is also difficult). So you got a deal, friend! ❤

    I love Aldi, they're my go-to store for most things. For some name brand things that are must-haves, I shop at Vons (Safeway/Albertsons). There are some things that I have to get at Costco because we use more or the price just can't be beat as well. A 2 pound bag of pecans at Costco used to be around $12, but have gone up to $13.89 (as of my October 31 trip), but that's still a lot cheaper than Aldi. Of course, unless you have a membership already, the cost of buying one probably wouldn't make up for just that difference.

    If you buy sugar in bulk off of Azure Standard, you could make your own brown sugar with just molasses and the sugar. I’ve been doing it more and it tastes so much better. I order off of Azure Standard too and love how I can buy organic stuff in bulk!

    One thing about blueberries that I just learned. Buying wild blueberries, those tiny ones, r supposed to be comparable to organic blueberries and do taste better 😉

    Whole pumpkin stores fine, but at about 50F/15C, so between the rootcellar and the livingroom temperature wise.

    Love, love, love the recipe for catsup from Living Traditions! I did tweek it a little to our preference, but it is great! I do wish Aldi would have more food that can be used in a diabetic diet though.

    If you shop Aldi all through the the year. Fresh blueberries in our area were 1.29 per pt . Instead of of picking this year it was cheaper to purchase and then freeze.

    Hey Annie! Butter - I've been buying for $2-$2.50 at Jewel! I'll text you next time it's there. There was a "2 limit" on one sale, but the other was UNLIMITED. Much cheaper than Aldi - who knew?!

      Hey Darlene! Yes, please text me and keep me in the loop. That's a great price, especially if it's unlimited. The limit of two is tough but unlimited would be great. Thank you 😊

    That’s a HUGE haul - thank you for sharing. Our Aldi in Rome, GA is a little hit or miss but I can usually find some good buys - especially in their organic products. Old World Gardens also has a very good homemade ketchup recipe. My husband is pretty picky about his ketchup but he gave it a thumbs up.

    If you want to make your own fry sauce just use mostly mayonnaise a bit less of ketchup and then a little bit of mustard. It is the best!

    Great haul! I think that was a good price for 2 pounds of pecans. Here (MS), they are anywhere from $10 to $12/lb. in grocery stores. More if bought fresh.
