Thank you! I love that this video is short and to the point! I hate watching videos that are crazy long and detailed….I’m Autistic with ADHD and it just gets overwhelming for me. THIS video however didn’t stress me at all! :)
I commented he should make a YT short edit of this. Im ADHD and it didnt stress me either but when this was made I dont think YT shorts were a thing. I just hope it help him gain attention. For me this was the obvious answer I couldn't think of prior to watching, but if I had thought of boiling I still needed someone to affirm it.
Wow, i have collected shells and coral shells from the local beach, i was thinking whether to add this in aquarium, now i will add them happily, Thanks to you man.
I buy the standard escargot shells from Amazon - very clean. I boil them anyway. My Gold ocellatus love them. When I had a bad case of Cyanobacteria in the tank and had to break it down, I boiled the shells in a bleach solution for 20 minutes. Don’t use vinegar with shells - it slowly dissolves them.
I really enjoy shell dwellers. They are so fascinating. you just provided us with some great tips and information on preparing the shells for them! Hopefully people will research and learn from videos like yours and give them the the proper habitat! When these little guys do have the proper setup, they are a lot of fun to watch! Your aquarium turned out beautiful! Thanks Blake for another awesome video, you rock! I hope you have a great week! Much love my friend! 🙏👍🌱🐟🌿💚
Nice one Blake. Those second lot of shells are the exact type I have my Lamprologus Ocellatus spawning in, they love them. Good luck with your shellies!
I wish I had seen this video last week! I bought some shells to decorate my tank and I used water and vinegar.. left them there for a few hours and the shells melted!! now I'll know what to do :-)
Nice work I’ve had food grade escargot shells with leftover bits in them before always smell the shells before you put them in you will now if there is something bad in them after boiling they stink.
Thanks Blake, BTW you should edit this video into a YT short. Bringing them to a boil and leting them cool was an obvious answer I didnt think of offhand but was looking for. Your info could be presented a 30 sec vid edited from these assets that generates more hits and answers the main question faster as well as bringing new attention to your channel on the same topic.
I want to add your vid was to the point and direct, but with the addition of YT shorts and growth of limited attention spans I thought a short would be proper for this subject. If you make it I hope it hits hard.
I brought some shells from Cuba home with me for my tank. Boiled them and added to my tank but two months later some have turned brown any thoughts? I don't think it's algae I think the shell is changing colour could be wrong. Any thoughts?
Dear I hv cichlid tank it's ph is 7.8 I want to increase till 8.1 so I checked on net, people said add seashell, do you have any idea will seashell increase ph or not
Can I Use Large Shells For Betta Nano Aquarium. Please reply bro , I Brought an expensive Large shell from a shop but after that when I search in google and RUclips , some are saying it is not advisable. bro is it safe for my betta? Please reply bro 🙏

Why people do not keep these beautiful sea shells in aquariums alive. We only collected their shells after they re dead. But why do we not keep these beautiful creatures in aquariums alive? For me i ve i live in a country having oceans and seas i would definitely do it. But i dont. There are many beauriful sea shells and snails but even the aquarium industry do not introduce this??
@@BlakesAquatics yeah... I know all these you mentioned but beautiful shells which we find in oceans are not taken into tank. Like these beautiful stripes ones and sharp pointed long ones and all. I seems like you don't really get what i meant. If we browse you tube about shrimp you d find all kinds of those kept in aquariums, same to fishes turtles sea animals. But yeah some few snails are even found in you tube from that we can count it definitely do you get my point. Thats it. Many many find in oceans floors and beaches are not kept in tanks that what i meant .... But if somebody did it personally that different.

Nice tips 👍
You can skip the bleach if you’re boiling. Heat deactivates bleach’s disinfectant properties.
Great how to video I bet this will be very helpful for most people
Great stuff!
Thinking about starting a Shell Dweller aquarium, I think they look really cool!
Super useful for hermit crabs too!
Thanks for this. Like you said, its straight forward, but nice to hear it from others :)

hi Blake, how bout those shells from the beach?..i just got them yesterday,,, is boiling enough? thanks a lot
Might be a good idea to keep them in a bucket of freshwater for a few weeks to kill off any critters
what about dried coral is that okay to put in tropical water, found it on the beach years ago?
Yep just give it a good rinse or soak it in a bucket of freshwater overnight
@@BlakesAquatics legend!!!
How long do u boil them for
10 mins or so
Would using only a few odd shells be ok re water ph, thanks
Yeah should be fine
thank you
Hi! How long would you recommend boiling the shells for before straining?
Just 5 to 10 mins
@@BlakesAquatics thank you ☺️

It could be soft water dissolving the calcium
Dear I hv cichlid tank it's ph is 7.8 I want to increase till 8.1 so I checked on net, people said add seashell, do you have any idea will seashell increase ph or not
Yes natural seashells will raise ph
@@BlakesAquatics Thanks
can they go into freshwater tank?
Definitely
Would this be a way to increase calcium in the water?
Marginally
@@BlakesAquatics Thanks! I appreciate that you reply right away and provide good content on You Tube.

Please reply bro 🙏
As long as it isnt painted or decorated itll be fine. The risk is that it raises ph or dissolves but 1 shell isnt going to change much

I have oscar tank which is getting hard water stains anu suggested ideas which water is good for Oscars fishes
oscar prefer neutral / acidic water, ph around 7.0
@@BlakesAquatics My oscar is not eating and sitting down the tank and not active what is the problem.?
1) Changed 60% water
2) Added stress removal
3) added chlorine removal drops
4) water degree set to 28
What can be the problem ?
@@sachinmahendrakar4104 oscars always do that after a waterchange. Dont worry he is just being a sook
