This is hands down the very best version on You Tube to learn how to play this song correctly. You play it perfectly like the album, and your kit sounds perfect for it. I always get mad having to sift through many sub par interpretations attempt videos when trying to learn a song. You play this dead on, amazingly. There’s a lot of weird little nuances to this drum part that make it sound “ just right” if you play it exactly like this. Thanks for putting this up.
Thanks for such a nice comment!! It's REALLY appreciated and I do hope this does help. If you have any question, please ask, Btw, you name cracked me up and brought back memories of driving down LaBrea Ave. in Los Angeles as their was this little yellow shack (and I do mean shack!) with the sign MEATTY MEAT BURGERS (yes, meaty was misspelled...lol) and one day I'm reading the L.A. Times and see that place was voted best burger joint in L.A. lol Of course I had to go and check it out!
Channeling John Bonham the place was actually called “ Mo better meatty meatburger” and it’s unfortunately for the way of the dodo... but they were good burgers.
@@supermeatymeatburger I never knew that! Was it on the sign/building? You learn something new everyday, right? lol It's a shame it's gone. How could you be the "best burger in L.A." and go out of business? There was a lot of competition...I mean L.A. is huge!! I'll tell ya, I sure miss In & Out Burger. We have nothing here like that. Anyway, get practicing!! lol
yep spot on. The double cymbal crashes deliver the secret sauce, just like Michael's original version. Beat for beat an exact replica of the album cut. Awesome.
Met Michael in Bellevue WA years ago, very nice, humble and highly underrated drum legend. I truly believe he could've been the next Led Zeppelin drummer.
Thank you, my friend...I'm sure Mike Derosier would dispute that! lol Seriously though, Mike was and is one of THE best rock & roll drummers ever. Too bad Heart just couldn't keep it together as they were unique and Mike's drumming was always so incredibly creative.
Oh, man...you play this SO natural as if you were on original recording, Rarely seen and heard, 'though 25 years ago I've played with drummer that was similarly natural like you. Excellent!!!
I have to learn this for a cover band I'm joining. I have watched quite a few covers of it for research and yours is by far the best one. It's the most accurate one I can find. Kudos to you sir! Rock on!
Unusual for a cover of this recording, damn near perfect capture of the original feeling. Michael DeRosier had such an original rock/march vibe going which most people I've heard cannot duplicate, or don't try; as a (very) amateur drummer, I found the same problem when I tried, but this version is I think perfect.
Awesome, you didn't lose a beat .Incredible you are ne of the most talented drummers I have seen lately .is like you were part of the song.really awesome ,I am speechless caue I love this song and the authenticity of your cover.CONGRATULATIONS
Hey Steve, I think the first time I viewed this video about 1 week ago it had 815 views... and I truly think I'm responsible for the next 51 or so. This is a great video for learning the song the absolute correct way. Awesome! Thanks for the friendship and advice, brother!

hey, awesome! Do you play heel up or down? Also, do you bury the beater on your bass drum, and rest against the head in between notes? Any internal bass drum muffling..like a pillow? You play it great...thanks
I play heel down most of the time and no, the beater is in it's back position between notes. I have a piece of foam about 2 inches think that conforms to the bottom of the inside and I also have a felt strip on the beater side over to the side of the head. Thanks for the kind words and I hope I've answered your questions. If you need anything else, just ask!!
You are about the only rock drummer these days saying that they play heel down. I actually feel pretty comfortable playing heel down, especially for faster tempo's like Barracuda. Thomas Lang promotes heel down as much as possible to conserve energy. I always felt that heel up on fast stuff got fatiguing. Did you learn and always play heel down, or did to progress to it over time? Do you feel that you can get enough power with heel down? Would to use heel down on something like the Immigrant Song..Led Zeppelin?...thanks!!
That's exactly me, I started heel up by gradually arrived heel down. I guess it just felt more comfortable. I do, in fact, play Immigrant Song heel down!! I think, whatever feels comfortable to you, is what you should do. It's what makes everyone unique. Look at Ringo, he was left handed playing on a right handed kit. All his rolls started with his left hand, you can see this in any vid of the Beatles and you instantly know it's Ringo.
Someone mentioned that your kit sounds just like the original recording. I don’t see one microphone on any drum. How did you achieve this? I doubt you got it from a couple of overheads. How did you blend the original with your kit?
I actually do have mic's on the kit...one in front of the kick and one overhead over the top of the kit, you just can't see them. That's all you need! Just tune your drums correctly and I use Emperor heads on all tops and Ambassadors on the bottoms.
Clearly a pro drummer. Has it all. Don't think anyone could play it better. Right on pal.
Thank you, Colin!! Very kind, my friend.
